Itinerary
Day 1 - Nagpur
Arrive at Nagpur airport, where our driver will meet you for the road transfer to Pench National Park – 100 km, around 2 hours. On arrival, we assist with check-in at the resort. The rest of the day is free – you can relax and enjoy the hotel facilities. Dinner is included and overnight at the resort.
Day 2 -
After breakfast at the hotel, we set out on a morning gypsy safari in the tiger reserve with a naturalist, return for lunch, then head back out for an afternoon safari. The reserve is renowned for the Bengal tiger and harbours rich biodiversity – 39 species of mammals, 13 reptiles and 3 amphibians. Common sightings include chital, sambar, nilgai, wild boar and jackal, while other residents include Indian leopard, sloth bear, Indian wolf, wild dog, porcupine, monkeys, jungle cat, fox, striped hyena, gaur, four-horned antelope and barking deer. Birdlife is prolific, with more than 210 recorded species – peafowl, junglefowl, crow pheasant, crimson-breasted barbet, red-vented bulbul, racket-tailed drongo, Indian roller, magpie robin, lesser whistling teal, pintail, shoveller, egrets and herons, minivet, oriole, wagtail, munia, myna, waterfowl and common kingfisher among them. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 3 -
After breakfast at the hotel, we drive 225 km – around five hours – from Pench to Satpura National Park. On arrival we check in and have lunch at the resort. The rest of the day is free for you to relax and make use of the resort’s facilities. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 4 -
Satpura National Park. After breakfast at the hotel, we head into the reserve for a morning gypsy safari with a naturalist, returning for lunch before an afternoon safari. Satpura is rich in biodiversity – you may encounter tiger, leopard, sambar, chital, Indian muntjac, nilgai, four horned antelope and chinkara, as well as wild boar, bear, black buck, fox, porcupine, flying squirrel, mouse deer and the Indian giant squirrel. Birdlife is varied, with hornbills and peafowl commonly seen, and the forests feature sal, teak, tendu, Phyllanthus emblica, mahua, bel and bamboo, along with grasses and medicinal plants. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 5 - Bhopal
After breakfast at the hotel, we join a morning gypsy safari in the Satpura tiger reserve with a naturalist. In the afternoon we drive to Bhopal – about 200 km, taking around 4 hours – and check in at the hotel on arrival. Overnight at hotel.
Day 6 - Bhopal
Bhopal. After breakfast at the hotel, we set out on a full-day excursion to Sanchi – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – and the Udayagiri Caves. In Sanchi, a serene hill is crowned with stupas, monasteries, temples and pillars dating from the 3rd century BC to the 12th century AD, where Buddhist art represents the Buddha through symbols rather than figures. We then continue to the Udayagiri Caves, an early Hindu ritual site extensively carved under Chandragupta II in the late 4th and 5th centuries AD, featuring rock-shelters, petroglyphs, ruined structures, inscriptions, ancient water systems and fortifications, many only partially excavated. We return to Bhopal afterward. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 7 - Bhopal
After breakfast at the hotel in Bhopal, we set out on a full day excursion to Bhimbetka and Bhojpur. At Bhimbetka, the rock shelters date back to the Palaeolithic and preserve some of the earliest evidence of human life on the Indian subcontinent – some shelters were inhabited by Homo erectus more than 100,000 years ago, and certain rock paintings are roughly 30,000 years old. We then continue to Bhojpur to visit its Shiva temple, which houses one of the largest lingas in India, carved from a single rock. On returning to Bhopal, we take a city tour, visiting Jama Masjid, Moti Masjid, Taj ul Masajid and the arts centre at Bharat Bhawan. Overnight at hotel.
Day 8 - Bhopal - Delhi - Mumbai
After breakfast at the hotel, we transfer you to the airport as per your flight schedule – fly to Delhi or Mumbai, then connect to your onward destination.
