Mexico Colours & Flavours

On arrival at Mexico City International Airport (AICM), we meet you and provide a shared transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure – you can unwind and enjoy the facilities or start exploring the city at your own pace. Overnight in Mexico City.

After breakfast, we set out for the Plaza de las Tres Culturas for a panoramic view of pre‑Hispanic Tlatelolco, then continue to the Basilica of Guadalupe, the country’s most important sanctuary dedicated to the Virgen de Guadalupe. We head on to Teotihuacan, the ‘place where the gods are made’, to explore the Palace of Quetzalpapálotl, the Feathered Snails, the Pyramid of the Moon, the Citadel and the Temple of Quetzalcoatl, concluding at the impressive Pyramid of the Sun. On the return to Mexico City there is a stop at a typical restaurant for lunch at your own expense – overnight in Mexico City.

After breakfast, we begin a guided visit of the historic centre, taking in the Zócalo, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Palace with Diego Rivera’s murals (closed on Mondays). We then continue to the National Museum of Anthropology (also closed on Mondays), Mexico’s most emblematic guardian of pre‑Hispanic heritage. At around 14:00 you may return to the hotel with the guide or remain at the museum and make your own way back – overnight in Mexico City.

After breakfast, we enjoy a full day exploration along Insurgentes Avenue, passing the bullring, the University of Mexico and the 1968 Olympic Stadium. At Xochimilco we board a traditional trajinera to glide through the canals and floating gardens – you may choose to hire mariachis and buy food and drinks from passing boats. We then visit Coyoacán, with elegant mansions from the sixteenth century and the Church of San Bautista, finishing at the Frida Kahlo Museum, La Casa Azul. Overnight in Mexico City.

After breakfast, we travel towards Puebla, with views of the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes en route to Cholula, a designated Pueblo Mágico. We visit the Great Pyramid, Tlachihualtepetl, and the Sanctuary of the Virgen de los Remedios, exploring the blend of pre‑Hispanic and Catholic traditions. We continue to Santa María Tonantzintla to admire its exuberant indigenous baroque church, then proceed to Puebla for lunch at a local restaurant at your own expense and a walking tour of the historic centre, including the Cathedral, the Rosario Chapel and the Parian handicrafts market, with a possible visit to a Talavera pottery workshop. Overnight in Puebla City.

After breakfast, we depart from 70 Calle Florencia on the corner of Liverpool for Chipilo to discover this town’s Italian heritage, where a northern Italian dialect is still spoken and customs from the original immigrants endure. We continue to Atlixco, renowned for its gastronomy, landscapes, architecture and flower production. You have free time for lunch and to explore the historic centre – suggested sights include the Municipal Palace, the Parish of Atlixco, the Third Order Chapel and the former convent of San Francisco. Overnight in Puebla City.

After breakfast, we leave Puebla for Oaxaca, stopping first at the archaeological site of Monte Albán, the great Zapotec urban centre and a World Heritage Site distinguished by its vast central plaza and surrounding pyramids. We continue to San Antonio Arrazola to learn about colourful alebrijes carved from copal wood, then on to San Bartolo Coyotepec to discover the process behind the celebrated black clay ceramics, arriving in Oaxaca City afterwards. Overnight in Oaxaca City.

After breakfast, we join an interactive Oaxacan cooking class that begins with a visit to local markets alongside the chef to select ingredients. We prepare a complete traditional meal – typically a mole, a soup and two additional dishes such as tamales – along with classic drinks like chilacayota and mezcal margaritas, plus handmade tortillas, and we share the feast at the end. Overnight in Oaxaca City.

After breakfast, we travel to Hierve el Agua, a sacred Zapotec site famed for its petrified waterfalls and natural pools formed by mineral‑rich springs on the cliffs of the Sierra Madre del Sur – you can swim and soak up the views. We continue through agave fields to a mezcal distillery to learn about the production process and taste different varieties, then finish in Teotitlán del Valle, a Zapotec weaving village renowned for wool rugs and textiles dyed with natural colours, where we observe artisans at work and learn about their techniques. Enjoy a final breakfast at the hotel, then we assist with check out and provide your transfer to Oaxaca International Airport for your departure flight.
