Stretching into the Atlantic Ocean, Vesterålen offers a striking contrast of landscapes, from serene beaches and farmland to dramatic fjords, rugged mountains, and untouched wilderness.

Day 3 - Whale Museum & Boat Safari

Today, you can enjoy a leisurely morning in Andenes. You can explore the picturesque harbor, take a scenic coastal hike to admire the stunning Arctic landscape, or relax at one of the restaurants or cafes.

In the early afternoon, make your way to the harbour where you will find the Whale watching centre, departure point for your included whale watching cruise. Vesteralen is Norway's top spot for whale watching, with the continental shelf close to shore and nutrient-rich waters attracting these giants. With a 95% success rate, it's the only place in Norway where whales can be spotted year-round.

At the Whale Museum, you'll learn fascinating facts about marine mammals before heading out on a 2-to-4-hour boat safari. In summer, you can spot mighty sperm whales, while in winter, you'll have the chance to admire orcas and humpback whales.

Overnight: Andenes

Day 4 - Exploring the Andoya Islands

Andenes - Stokmarknes. After breakfast, spend another day exploring the islands along the Norwegian Scenic Route, a 58 km stretch between Andenes and Bjornskinn. The route takes you along Road 7698, running along Andoya’s southern edge, and Road 7702, connecting Bleik and Andenes. It follows a broad shelf of cultivated land between the ocean and jagged peaks, offering stunning coastal views.

As you travel, you’ll pass some of Norway’s most beautiful beaches, with the midnight sun and still ocean as your backdrop. You may spot seals, whales, or eagles from your car window. In late summer, taste cloudberries on the moorland or visit Bleiksoya’s bird cliffs. The Gulf Stream supports abundant wildlife, and you'll discover hidden gems like the fishing village of Bleik and the natural rock formation Bukkekjerka between Nordmaela and Noss. The route is also ideal for cyclists or those who prefer to kayak along the coast.

You will then continue your journey to Stokmarknes, connecting to Road 82, known as the gateway to Vesteralen which leads from Andoya towards the mainland, taking you deeper into the Vesteralen region.
