Day 1 - Jeddah
Welcome to Saudi Arabia, a land of striking contrasts and unforgettable experiences. Upon arrival in Jeddah, a vibrant city on the Red Sea, we will transfer you to your hotel. Here, you'll be in the country's second-largest city, home to four million residents. At 19:00, we will meet at the hotel reception and embark on a fascinating walk through Al-Balad, Jeddah's historic quarter, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This area is a treasure trove of medieval alleys and uniquely constructed houses made from coral and adorned with wooden balconies. As night falls, the district takes on a special charm with its atmospheric lighting, enticing you to explore its variety of delightful restaurants. Please be aware that the tour may have participants joining or leaving at different points, although the group size will be carefully managed to ensure comfort and enjoyment. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Jeddah
Today, we focus our exploration on Jeddah, a city of remarkable contrasts. Our local guide will lead us through this rapidly evolving metropolis, currently undergoing significant redevelopment. At the forefront of this transformation is the Jeddah Tower, destined to be the tallest building in the world when completed, soaring over a thousand metres high. Our journey takes us to the picturesque Corniche, offering breathtaking sea views, coastal mosques, and lively recreational areas. We will admire the King Fahd Fountain, which holds the title for the highest of its kind, with its water jets reaching heights exceeding 300 metres. Our next stop is the bustling and colourful fish market, a vital slice of local life.Inclusion in our itinerary is a visit to the Al Taybat International City, an architectural gem housing captivating museums of history and ethnography. We will revisit the historic centre, entering through Bab Makkah, Jeddah's most significant gateway. While here, we will explore Beit Salloum, an elegant residence turned museum, and pass by the Eve cemetery, steeped in tradition as the resting place of Eve from biblical lore.For lunch, you'll have free time at a shopping centre, where a variety of restaurants offer diverse culinary choices. Our afternoon schedule includes a visit to the Al Rahma Mosque, famously known as the floating mosque, built on Red Sea waters supported by pillars. Finally, we will experience the vibrant atmosphere of the marina, situated close to where the Formula 1 racetrack is held.
Day 3 - Jeddah - Medina
Our journey continues with a scenic drive inland through vast desert landscapes and majestic mountains towards the sacred city of Medina. Renowned as "the radiant city," Medina is one of the holiest destinations in Islam, welcoming millions of pilgrims each year. Upon arrival around noon, we'll pause for lunch at a large shopping centre where you can choose from a variety of dining options. As we explore this significant city, we will visit the awe-inspiring Prophet's Mosque (Al Masjid an Nabawi), a luminous and expansive site with ten stately minarets, capable of hosting up to a million visitors. Built by the Prophet himself, this mosque also serves as his final resting place.Our exploration continues with a visit to Mount Uhud, an important site of pilgrimage and historical conflict, where you can respectfully walk its extensive esplanade. The nearby Quba Mosque marks the site of the first mosque foundation laid by the Prophet and his followers in 622, though the current structure is more recent. From here, we’ll take a stroll to the Garden and Well of Ethiq, where local tribes once gathered to greet the Prophet and offer him water, marking his arrival in Medina.You’ll then have some free time to wander through the city centre, explore its bustling shopping areas, or, if you prefer, visit the Hejaz Railway Museum housed in the old Ottoman train station. Later, we delve into the history of the city at the Al Madinah Museum. As dusk settles, we will witness the ethereal beauty of the Al Masjid mosque, observing the thousands of worshippers entering for prayer—an unforgettable, emotionally charged experience. Dinner is included to round off the day.
Day 4 - Medina - Buraidah
Following a morning meal, we journey eastward through a sparsely populated land, where desert vistas unfold in a tapestry of varying hues. We arrive at Buraidah, the capital of the Al-Qassim region, nestled within a vast oasis and home to over 600,000 residents. You’ll have free time to enjoy lunch. Later, we delve into Buraidah’s unique character; the local economy thrives on oasis farming with dates, citrus fruits, and wheat being key products. Each August, a bustling date market attracts enthusiasts from across the country. We’ll take time to explore the renowned ‘City of Dates,’ providing an opportunity to savour this iconic fruit. Following our exploration, you can wander through the city centre, where a vibrant atmosphere awaits with its vegetable market, grand mosque, jewellery souks, and dynamic street life. Dinner is included in our day’s experiences.
Day 5 - Buraidah - Riyadh
We begin our day with an early morning visit to the world's largest camel market, right here in Buraidah. This city not only hosts a thriving camel trade but also features a camel hospital, demonstrating the significance of these creatures to the local culture. Our journey continues along the historic pilgrimage route from Iraq to Mecca. En route, we stop at Ushaiger, a charming heritage village. Once a pivotal rest stop for pilgrims due to its natural springs and picturesque oasis, Ushaiger boasts a small museum and traditional Najdi architecture with ornate wooden doors and distinct triangular roofs. After exploring these cultural treasures, we enjoy a leisurely lunch.The striking desert dunes guide us to Shaqra, a city experiencing growth alongside its university. Here, we explore the fortified ancient city, wander through its vibrant old market, and stroll along its adobe alleyways. Our next stop is Al Qasab, historically renowned for its production of salt and wheat, and famous for its poets. We explore the walled city and visit the saline lagoons, witnessing the enduring practice of salt extraction, yielding 200,000 tonnes annually. As evening falls, we reach Riyadh, the bustling capital of Saudi Arabia, now home to nearly eight million inhabitants, ready to continue our journey in this dynamic city.
Day 6 - Riyadh
Today, we dive into the heart of Riyadh, the vibrant capital of Saudi Arabia. Depending on the time of year, the order of activities may vary. Our adventure begins with a visit to the soaring Kingdom Centre, where we will ascend its tower, standing over 300 metres tall. From the iconic bridge-shaped viewpoint, you can enjoy sweeping vistas of the sprawling city below.Next, we proceed to the National Museum, nestled amidst a picturesque park. As the largest museum in the nation, it provides a deep insight into the Kingdom's rich history, culture, and artistic achievements. Following this, we explore the historic Masmak Fortress. As you wander its halls, you'll gain a glimpse into the remarkable transformation the city has undergone over the last century. We'll then leisurely stroll through a bustling neighbourhood, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of its souks and marketplaces. You'll have some free time to enjoy lunch in a shopping centre, where a variety of restaurants offer diverse culinary options.In the evening, we visit the grand Al Rajhi Mosque, Riyadh's largest, known for its Andalusian-inspired architecture. Here, you'll have the chance to witness a prayer session and partake in a brief introduction to Islam, enriching your understanding of the faith.To conclude our day, we'll provide a transfer to the lively Riyadh City Boulevard, a hub of activity and entertainment. There, you can immerse yourself in the attractions, savour international cuisine at numerous restaurants, and be captivated by live performances and the mesmerising display of colourful fountains. Enjoy some free time for dinner and a leisurely walk before we return to the hotel, bringing our exploration full circle.
Day 7 - Riyadh - Al-Hofuf
We start our day just outside Riyadh at the historic Al Turaif district in Diriyah, a World Heritage Site recognised by UNESCO. This area was the inaugural capital of the Saudi dynasty, and today, you can explore its fascinating remnants, including numerous palaces and a distinctive urban landscape set along the edge of an oasis. We then journey on excellent highways to the AL-AHSA Oasis, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Renowned for its lush gardens, intricate canals, and wells, this locale has been inhabited since the Neolithic era and boasts nearly three million date palms, making it the world's largest oasis.Upon arrival in Al-Hofuf, the oasis’s main city, we’ll meander through the charming Al Qaisariya souq. This ancient marketplace, one of the oldest in Arabia, embodies the rich mercantile tradition of the region. Our day concludes with an evening stroll through King Abdullah Park, where we can unwind amidst its artificial lake and enjoy the choreography of fountains set to music. Dinner is included this evening, offering a perfect opportunity to reflect on the day's discoveries.
Day 8 - Al-Hofuf - Dammam
Following breakfast, we will explore Al-Hofuf, starting with the Ibrahim Palace, a historic fortress and UNESCO World Heritage Site notable for its white mosque, constructed by the Ottomans in 1556. We'll then visit the "House of Allegiance," offering insight into the architectural style typical of the oasis. Our journey takes us to the bustling area surrounding the Mehaires Palace, where you'll find plenty of restaurants, shops, and parks frequented by locals.Continuing through the lush oasis, we arrive at Al Qara, a site known for its breathtaking landscape filled with labyrinthine passages, mini-gorges, and unique mountain caves maintaining a consistent temperature of around 25 degrees Celsius. Here, we will also visit the "Land of Civilizations" museum, which beautifully illustrates the rich history of the region.In the afternoon, we journey towards the Persian Gulf, proceeding to DAMMAM, the provincial capital with a thriving population nearing one million. En route, we'll make a stop at the spectacular Ithra site, home to the architecturally remarkable King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, featuring diverse recreational areas, museums, and a library. Upon reaching Dammam, we will pause briefly by the Khobar water tower before strolling along the modern seafront to the Heritage Village—a fortress-like structure by the sea. This site invites us to delve into Saudi civilisation, housing a charming museum showcasing antique objects and a notable collection of historical automobiles. Dinner is included. Please note that Ibrahim Palace is currently undergoing restoration, and we'll only view it from the outside if it's still closed at the time of our visit.
Day 9 - Dammam
Following breakfast, our services come to a close. You may wish to take this opportunity to explore the vibrant city of Dammam further at your leisure, perhaps visiting the bustling markets or enjoying a leisurely stroll along the coastline before continuing your personal journey. Safe travels!
