Day 1 - Seoul
Welcome to Korea! Upon arrival in Seoul, you will be transferred to your hotel for some leisure time to unwind after your journey. In the afternoon, we will provide you with all the necessary information to kickstart your exciting tour of this fascinating country. Enjoy your time settling in and exploring your new surroundings as you prepare for the adventures ahead. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Seoul
On the second day of our journey, we will set off early for Cheorwon, renowned for its position in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that separates North and South Korea. Our adventure begins with a visit to the Second Tunnel, a clandestine passage excavated by the North in 1975. We will then proceed to the Cheorwon Peace Observatory, which provides stunning views of the DMZ and the bordering villages of North Korea. The observatory also houses a small exhibition dedicated to the history of the Korean War.We will continue our exploration at the deserted Woljeong-ri railway station. From there, the journey takes us to the Baek Ma Battle Memorial, commemorating the crucial role of a French UN battalion in the conflict. Lunch will be served, and thereafter, we will visit a local Makgeolli producer to learn about and taste this traditional Korean rice liquor. We anticipate returning to Seoul in the evening.Please remember to bring your passport for this leg of the trip as the DMZ is a military zone, and entry can be restricted without warning. Should the DMZ be inaccessible, an alternative itinerary will be arranged.Back in Seoul, our guide will accompany us to City Hall, featuring an architectural design reminiscent of a wave. Not far from there, we will admire Deoksugung Palace, beautifully illuminated against the night sky, embodying the fascinating contrast of old and new in Korea. A short walk will then take us to the Myeongdong district, noted for being South Korea’s largest hub of shopping and entertainment. Our evening will conclude with dinner at a local restaurant followed by a metro ride back to the hotel, which adds a touch of local life to our day. Accommodations are arranged for the night.
Day 3 - Seoul
Our third day in Seoul is set to be a rich exploration of this vibrant city. We will embark on a comprehensive five-hour tour, beginning at Changdeokgung Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site nestled within expansive gardens. This historic compound offers a glimpse into Korea's regal past. Next, we will pass through Bukchon Hanok Village, a well-preserved area characterised by traditional Korean homes. This will be followed by a visit to the War Memorial of Korea, where the exhibits offer profound insights into Korea’s turbulent history, with a special focus on the Korean War that saw contributions from international soldiers under the United Nations. Lunch will be arranged at a local eatery.In the afternoon, we will continue to the bustling Gangnam District, renowned for its shopping centres and lively entertainment spots. Our day will wrap up with a stop at the impressive Lotte World Tower, which soars to 550 metres. You'll have free time to decide whether to purchase a ticket to ascend the tower for panoramic views or to explore the nearby park and upscale shopping malls. We'll then return to the hotel, after which you'll have the evening to enjoy at your own pace.
Day 4 - Seoul - Suwon - Jeonju
Today we embark on a journey to the majestic Gyeongbokgung Palace, a site with over 600 years of history. If we time it right, we may witness the grand changing of the guard ceremony. Leaving Seoul, our journey takes us southward to Suwon, the former capital of Korea. Here, the striking UNESCO-listed fortress walls command attention, and we will explore the remarkable Hwaseong Haenggung, the summer palace. After a delightful lunch, we continue to Jeonju. Known for its captivating historic centre, Jeonju's Hanok Village is where traditional small houses, quaint shops, and charming art galleries offer a delightful setting for exploration.
Day 5 - Jeonju - Damyang - Haeinsa - Busan
On day five, we set off for Sunchang Gochujang Village, situated at the base of Mount Amisan. Renowned for its traditional hanok houses and courtyards brimming with clay pots, known as hang-a-ri, this village is famous for its master artisans who create gochujang, a quintessential Korean chilli paste, following age-old methods. Here, you'll engage in a hands-on session to learn the art of making this celebrated sauce. Our journey then continues to Damyang, where we will explore the enchanting paths of the Juknokwon Bamboo Forest, celebrated as some of South Korea's most beautiful trails. This area offers a delightful setting for meditation and enjoying the refreshing breeze, with opportunities to discover diverse bamboo products and perhaps visit the Bamboo Museum. Lunch is included, featuring a local delicacy: rice cooked and served within a bamboo stalk.Following lunch, we venture to Haeinsa, one of Korea’s most significant Buddhist temples and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Established in 802, the temple houses the Tripitaka, a comprehensive collection of Buddhist scriptures etched on 80,000 wooden tablets. Later, we proceed to Busan, Korea's bustling second-largest city, for our overnight stay.
Day 6 - Busan
Today, we leave Busan in the morning to visit the stunning 14th-century Haedong Yonggung Temple, perched on the seaside cliffs. Returning to the city, our next stop is the UN Memorial Cemetery, a solemn resting place honouring the contributions of soldiers from many nations. We'll then explore the bustling fish market at Nampo Port, the largest in the country, followed by an included lunch. Afterward, enjoy a leisurely walk to Yongdusan Park, home to the impressive 120-metre-high pagoda. Later, we'll unwind at Songdo Beach, where, weather permitting, you can take a ride on South Korea's first marine cable car (ticket included) and enjoy breathtaking bay views.The day's adventures continue as we head to the vibrant and colourful Gamcheon Culture Village. Known for its artistic vibe, the village boasts eye-catching murals and winding alleyways filled with art galleries, pottery workshops, and charming cafés. We'll return to Busan for an overnight stay, having spent a day filled with contrasts from bustling markets to serene beaches and artistically rich neighbourhoods.
Day 7 - Busan - Seokguram - Bulguksa - Gyeongju - Daegu
Today, we leave Busan for an immersive experience at Seokguram Grotto, an exquisite 8th-century Buddhist sanctuary nestled on the slopes of Tohamsan. Our journey continues with a visit to Bulguksa Temple, renowned for its architectural beauty and spiritual significance. We then arrive in Gyeongju, Korea’s longest-standing capital, which was ruled by 56 kings over a span of 992 years. You'll have an opportunity to capture the striking wooden Woljeonggyo Bridge, set against the scenic Namcheon River.Following an included lunch, we explore Tumuli Park, home to the ancient burial mounds from the Silla Kingdom, dating back over 1,500 years. We’ll delve into history as we visit one of these tombs before strolling to the Cheomsongdae Observatory, East Asia’s oldest astronomical observatory and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our day concludes with our arrival in Daegu, Korea’s fourth-largest city. Before checking into our hotel, we’ll explore Dongsan Cheongna Hill, a historic area once inhabited by Christian missionaries, and Dongseong-ro, a bustling street filled with trendy shops, cafes, and restaurants. Overnight in Daegu.
Day 8 - Daegu - Andong - Hahoe - Seoul
On the eighth day of our journey, we begin by exploring Daegu, including a visit to the Yangnyeongsi Museum of Oriental Medicine, which boasts a rich history of medicinal herbs. We will wander through the nearby streets, known as the Herbal Medicine Market, where you can discover herbal shops renowned for their high-quality products, particularly ginseng. Our travels then take us north to Andong, where we will explore the traditional Hahoe Village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that seems untouched by time. In Hahoe, you'll have the chance to visit the Hahoe Mask Museum, featuring an intriguing collection of masks from around the globe. These masks, used in dances, medical practices, religious ceremonies, and theatrical performances, offer a fascinating insight into cultural heritage. We will include lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to the Byeongsan Seowon Confucian Academy, established in the 16th century and beautifully situated alongside a river. Later, we make our way back to Seoul, arriving in the evening. Weather permitting, we'll pause at the Banpo Bridge over the Han River, famed for its vibrant fountain display that creates a stunning spectacle of colours and lights. We will spend the night in Seoul. Please note that the visit to Banpo Bridge is subject to favourable weather conditions.
Day 9 - Seoul - Tokyo
Following breakfast, we'll arrange your transfer to the airport for your included flight to Tokyo. Welcome to Japan! Once you've completed the border procedures, you'll be greeted by an assistant, who typically speaks Spanish, although sometimes English is used. You'll then be taken by a shared shuttle bus to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free for you to explore at your leisure.
Day 10 - Tokyo
Today, we embark on a captivating five-hour guided tour of Tokyo, a city renowned for its dynamic blend of modern vitality and serene oases. Our adventure starts at the Zojoji Temple, where you can capture the emblematic view of the Tokyo Tower framed by the temple's historic grounds, which are adorned with numerous colourful Jizo statues, each lovingly dressed in knit caps and bibs.We'll then witness the bustling life at Shibuya Crossing, regarded as the busiest intersection globally, before visiting the tranquil Meiji Shrine, dedicated to Emperor Meiji and his wife. Our journey continues with a drive along the sophisticated Omotesando Avenue, leading us to a spectacle of the Imperial Palace’s picturesque gardens and the iconic Nijubashi Bridge.As we wind through Tokyo, we'll pass the anime mecca, Akihabara, affectionately dubbed “Electric Town”, and catch a glimpse of the Kokugikan—a celebrated sumo arena. We'll reach the historic district of Asakusa, spending time at the revered Sensoji Temple and enjoying the lively Nakamise Street, brimming with traditional shops and treats. A delightful local lunch will be included.In the evening, at 6:30 p.m., we gather in the hotel lobby to explore the vibrant Shinjuku district. We'll navigate its lively streets known for an eclectic nightlife and dinner will be served at a local eatery, fully immersing ourselves in the dinner experience. The evening concludes with a metro ride back to the hotel, all under the guidance of our trusted escort.
Day 11 - Tokyo - Kyoto
On day 11 of our adventure, we will experience the exhilarating ride of a bullet train as we journey from Tokyo to Kyoto, covering nearly 500 kilometres in just over two hours. Our day is dedicated to exploring Kyoto, a city steeped in history as the former capital of Japan from 794 to 1868 and the seat of the Imperial Court. Notably, Kyoto retained its architectural treasures, having been spared from bombing during World War II, safeguarding its rich artistic heritage.We will visit some of the city’s most emblematic sites, beginning with the breathtaking Fushimi Inari Shrine, known for its iconic red torii gates that weave through the verdant landscape. Then, we will admire the grandeur of the Imperial Palace and continue to the Kinkakuji Temple, famously known as the "Golden Pavilion," set within magnificent gardens reflecting in the surrounding pond.Our exploration of Kyoto wouldn’t be complete without time spent in Gion, the city’s lively traditional district celebrated for its geishas and captivating atmosphere. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to wander through the charming streets and take in the unique culture and spirit of Kyoto. Following our guided explorations, you'll have some free time to further discover this enchanting city at your own pace.
Day 12 - Kyoto - Nara - Osaka
On day twelve, we will journey to Nara to explore the impressive Todaiji Temple, established in 752. This magnificent Buddhist site houses an enormous statue of Buddha and is surrounded by a park where friendly deer roam freely—offering wonderful photo opportunities and interactive experiences. We will enjoy an included lunch before heading to Horyu-ji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This complex, which includes a seminary, monasteries, and temples, is home to Japan's oldest wooden structures, with the central pagoda recognised as the oldest Buddhist temple in Japan, serving as a significant place of worship. In the evening, we will arrive in Osaka, where your accommodation will be in this vibrant city, Japan’s second-largest urban area. Later, immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of Dotonbori, celebrated for its colourful nightlife and bustling streets.
Day 13 - Osaka - Himeji - Korakuen Garden - Okayama
Today, we continue our journey with a visit to the grand city of Himeji. Our first stop is the renowned Himeji Castle, a superb example of classic Japanese castle architecture, where entry is included. After enjoying a delightful lunch at a local eatery, we proceed to Okayama, home to the exquisite Korakuen Garden. Known as one of Japan's most stunning gardens, Korakuen boasts serene lakes, charming waterfalls, and traditional teahouses. Here, you'll also have a chance to cross a pedestrian bridge to view the exterior of Okayama Castle, a sixteenth-century fortification reconstructed after World War II. The interior of the castle is not included in our visit. After exploring these historic sites, you'll have free time to discover the vibrant city of Okayama at your own pace. It serves as an active provincial hub, offering a glimpse into its day-to-day life. Please note, on certain dates, we may accommodate you in Fukuyama or Kurashiki, with the possibility of visiting Kurashiki in the afternoon on the same day.
Day 14 - Okayama - Kurashiki - Itsukushima - Hiroshima
We’ll begin our day in Kurashiki, a city famed for its perfectly preserved historical centre. You’ll have the opportunity to stroll leisurely through its charming streets, absorbing the sense of history that permeates the area. Afterwards, we journey to Hiroshima, a city profoundly impacted by the atomic bomb in 1945. Here, we’ll reflect on its history and resilience as we visit the Peace Memorial Park, the Atomic Bomb Dome, and the deeply moving Peace Memorial Museum.In search of serenity, we’ll take a ferry to an island reputed as the place "where men and gods live together." Our destination is the renowned Itsukushima Shrine, dedicated to the guardian of the seas, perched partially over water. You’ll have time to explore this remarkable shrine, wander through the quaint town centre, and enjoy lunch at your leisure.Following these explorations, we'll return to Hiroshima for a relaxing evening and an included dinner, rounding off a day rich in cultural and historical experiences. Please note that the sequence of visits in Hiroshima might be subject to change without affecting the overall itinerary.
Day 15 - Hiroshima
On our final day, we’ll enjoy a leisurely breakfast before concluding our adventure, departing from Hiroshima.
