You’ll explore Madrid’s grand avenues, Retiro and the Santiago Bernabéu, plus tapas around Plaza Mayor. Then travel south to Granada for the Alhambra option, before following the Tropical Coast to Ronda’s dramatic gorge. Seville brings its cathedral, the Giralda and a cruise on the Guadalquivir. Itinerary
Day 1 - Madrid
Welcome to Madrid. On arrival at the airport, we’ll transfer you to your hotel, after which you’ll have free time until the tour begins. Please check the information signs at reception for details of the welcome meeting with your guide and fellow travellers. In the evening, we’ll provide a transfer to the historic Plaza Mayor and nearby La Latina – one of Madrid’s best areas for nightlife and tapas. You can choose where to dine, with plenty of options including Spanish, Indian, Chinese and Middle Eastern cuisine.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Madrid
This morning we take a comprehensive tour of central Madrid, including Paseo del Prado, Cibeles, Neptuno, Puerta de Alcalá, Plaza de Colón and Plaza Mayor. We then visit Retiro Park to see the lake and the Palacio de Cristal. Admission is included to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium – home of Real Madrid, considered by many to be the best football club in the world. The afternoon is at leisure for you to explore as you wish. In the evening we provide a return transfer to the hotel.
Day 3 - Madrid - Granada
We leave Madrid early, travelling south across La Mancha. Our first stop is Puerto Lápice – a classic Manchego village evoking the world of Don Quixote. We then continue through Despeñaperros into Andalusia, arriving in Granada, where lunch is included.In the afternoon, if you have selected the Alhambra option, you explore the Alhambra and its Generalife Gardens with a local guide – landmark sites from the Arab period. Important note: visitor numbers are strictly controlled by law, so tickets are issued when your tour is confirmed and require your exact personal details (full name and passport/ID number) at the time of booking. Ticket costs are non refundable in case of cancellation. In the rare event the Alhambra visit cannot be secured, we will instead arrange a tour of the Royal Alcázar of Seville, which offers similar historical and architectural significance.
Day 4 - Granada - Nerja - Malaga - Ronda - Seville
Leaving Granada, we travel past the Sierra Nevada and follow the Mediterranean along the Tropical Coast – a mild microclimate that supports guavas, mangoes and avocados, and formerly sugar cane. We stop in Nerja, a seaside town with striking cliffs, then continue to Málaga, capital of the Costa del Sol and home to a lively historic centre. You have time for lunch and a stroll before we drive into the Andalusian sierras to reach Ronda, a white town famed for the dramatic gorge that divides it. We then continue to Seville, arriving in the late afternoon – dinner is included at the hotel.
Day 5 - Seville - Zaragoza
This morning we take a panoramic tour of Seville, visiting the cathedral and its famed Giralda, the banks of the Guadalquivir, and the atmospheric neighbourhoods of Santa Cruz and Triana. After the tour, we include a boat ride on the Guadalquivir. In the afternoon we transfer you to the station to board the high–speed train, scheduled to depart around 16:30 and covering the 850 km to Zaragoza in just under four hours. On arrival, we transfer you to your hotel. Please note the train sector is unescorted by our tour guide.
Day 6 - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
We start with a morning panoramic tour of Zaragoza led by a local expert, beginning at the Cathedral–Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. We explore the city’s links to Goya and view some of his works, then continue to the Roman theatre and a Renaissance palace, before a stroll by the Aljafería Palace. After lunch, we travel into Catalonia to visit Poblet Abbey – a remarkable walled monastery set amid beautiful scenery and one of the best preserved medieval monasteries in the world, with tickets included. We then continue to Barcelona, arriving in the evening.
Day 7 - Barcelona
This morning we set out on a panoramic tour of Barcelona – a Mediterranean city known for Gaudí’s modernist architecture, its lively Ramblas and the legacy of its World Expositions and Olympic Games. The tour ends at Maremagnum, the waterfront leisure and dining complex by Columbus Square, where you can stroll the area at your own pace. The afternoon is free for you to continue exploring. We’ll return to the hotel at the end of the day.
Day 8 - Barcelona - Paris
At the scheduled time, we’ll transfer you to the station for your included high-speed train to Paris – a comfortable journey of just over six hours. On arrival, we’ll meet you for a transfer to your hotel. Your guide will contact you this evening – alternatively, please check the information signs at reception. Please note that the train journey is unescorted by our tour guide.
Day 9 - Paris
Today we head to the Palace of Versailles — admission not included — celebrated for its magnificent gardens. Back in Paris, we explore Montmartre, the bohemian neighbourhood famous for its artists and cabarets. We then join a panoramic city tour with a local guide to take in the city’s grand avenues and iconic monuments, afterwards returning to the hotel. In the evening, you can choose to attend an optional variety show.
Day 10 - Paris
We begin in central Paris with a visit to the Eiffel Tower – tickets are included to the second floor – followed by a relaxing Seine cruise of around one hour and fifteen minutes. The afternoon is free for you to explore at your own pace – please note the return transfer to the hotel is not included. If queues at the Eiffel Tower are too long, we may adjust the timing of the visit – possibly to Sunday. Our journey ends today, so please check your flight time in case you need to arrange an additional night.
