Day 1 - Barcelona
Welcome to Barcelona! Upon arrival, we will arrange your transfer to the hotel where you will have some time to settle in and enjoy the surroundings at your leisure. In the afternoon, you're encouraged to check the hotel reception boards for details about the commencement of your tour. Enjoy your introduction to this vibrant city with the freedom to explore at your own pace. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Barcelona - Girona
On the second day of our journey, we will embark on a captivating exploration of Barcelona, often hailed as one of Europe's most enchanting capitals. Our morning begins with a guided tour of this vibrant city, famous for its picturesque location along the Mediterranean Sea. You'll encounter the visionary works of architect Antoni Gaudí, whose modernist creations are just one highlight of Barcelona's rich architectural heritage. As we traverse the bustling Ramblas and delve into the city's fascinating history — marked by events like the Universal Exposition and the Olympics — you'll discover why Barcelona holds such universal appeal. As evening approaches, we will depart Barcelona and venture north into the heart of Catalonia. Our journey takes us to the historic town of Girona, where you'll have the opportunity to wander through its charming old quarter. Known for its colourful houses lining the river, the well-preserved Jewish quarter, and an impressive cathedral, Girona offers a unique glimpse into the region's past and culture. After a fulfilling day of exploration, we will settle into our hotel, ready for the adventures that await us tomorrow.
Day 3 - Girona - Carrieres des Lumieres - Chambery
Today, we set off towards France, journeying through the enchanting region of Provence. Our initial destination is the quaint town of Arles, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its association with Vincent van Gogh. Here, we have the opportunity to visit the Roman theatre and delightful Romanesque churches, allowing time for exploration and a leisurely lunch. Our adventure continues with an included visit to the Carrières des Lumières, an extraordinary art venue located in an ancient quarry, offering a mesmerising display of art, imagery, and sound. In the evening, we arrive in Chambéry, the picturesque capital of Savoy. This medieval city boasts a charming historic centre and a grand castle. Note: If tickets are unavailable for Carrières des Lumières due to high demand, an alternative visit to the Pont du Gard, a renowned Roman aqueduct, will be arranged.
Day 4 - Chambery - Geneva - Gruyeres - Leysin
On the fourth day, our adventure takes us into the heart of Switzerland, beginning with a visit to Geneva. Accompanied by our guide, we’ll explore the Palais des Nations, the European headquarters of the United Nations. Enjoy the serenity of the English Garden, adorned with its famous flower clock, and marvel at the Jet d’Eau, the tallest fountain in Europe.Our next destination is the enchanting, walled village of Gruyères, celebrated worldwide for its cheese. Not far from here, you'll find some of Switzerland’s premier chocolate factories. Our itinerary includes entry to the Maison Cailler Chocolate Factory, where you'll delight in a sweet tasting experience. As we journey onwards, soak up the stunning scenery of the Swiss countryside, with rolling mountains and charming wooden villages, as we head towards Chillon Castle. This picturesque castle, perched on the shores of Lake Geneva, invites you to take a step back in time (admission is included).By mid-afternoon, we’ll reach Leysin, a delightful alpine retreat offering breathtaking views of the Rhône Valley and Mont Blanc. Known for its winter sports and hiking opportunities, Leysin is the perfect place to unwind. Dinner is included. Please note that, subject to availability, we may sometimes stay overnight in another picturesque Swiss town nestled in the Alps, such as Martigny.
Day 5 - Leysin - Interlaken - Lucerne - Zurich
Today promises breathtaking alpine vistas, so remember to take your warm winter clothes. We will journey to the awe-inspiring Glacier 3000 via a cable car, renowned for its perpetual ice and snow, offering spectacular views. Here, you can traverse the bridge suspended between two majestic peaks, marvel at the Ice Cathedral, or enjoy the fun activities at the park. Our next stop will be Interlaken, where you’ll have time for a leisurely lunch amidst stunning mountain scenery. We then continue to Lucerne, a city famed for its beauty and charm. As the evening approaches, we reach Zurich, allowing some time to explore the city centre’s attractions before settling into our hotel. Please note, should the cable car be unavailable due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, we will substitute this with an equally memorable alpine experience.
Day 6 - Zurich - Bellinzona - Como - Milan
We depart Zurich early in the morning, travelling through the stunning Swiss Alps as we make our way to the Italian-speaking region. Our first destination is Bellinzona, celebrated for its trio of medieval castles that have earned UNESCO World Heritage status. These fortifications, that rise majestically on the surrounding hills, serve as a testament to Bellinzona's historical importance as a key alpine stronghold. You'll have some free time here to explore the quaint streets and soak in the rich history. We then cross the border into Italy, stopping in the picturesque town of Como for lunch. Nestled in the heart of Lombardy, Como is renowned for its lush gardens by the lake and its magnificent cathedral. Our journey continues to Milan, where you'll discover the impressive Piazza del Duomo with our guide. After a bit of leisure time to further explore, we'll head to the hotel for the evening.
Day 7 - Milan - Pisa - Rome
Today, we continue our exploration of Italy by visiting the iconic city of Pisa. We’ll take a charming tourist train ride to the Piazza dei Miracoli, offering you the chance to marvel at one of Italy’s most extraordinary architectural ensembles. Here, you'll find the celebrated Leaning Tower of Pisa, a masterpiece of medieval engineering and a true symbol of Italian culture. After soaking up the beauty and history of this remarkable site, we'll make our way to Rome, arriving later in the day. In the evening, you'll have leisure time to begin discovering the vibrant atmosphere of the Italian capital at your own pace.
Day 8 - Rome
This morning, we set out to explore the magnificence of Rome with a three-hour guided tour that seamlessly blends a walking exploration of Imperial Rome with a panoramic bus ride. Considered one of the cradles of Western civilisation, this city boasts landmarks that echo its grand past. We'll discover the Arch of Constantine, take in the exterior of the Colosseum, and roam through the vivid history of the Imperial Forums, Circus Maximus, and the Baths of Caracalla. Our journey continues with visits to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, the Pyramid of Cestius, and the formidable Castel Sant'Angelo. By 11:00 a.m., the tour concludes at Vatican City, where you may opt to join an additional excursion to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. As the day winds down, we head to the vibrant Trastevere neighbourhood, renowned for its delightful restaurants and lively charm. You’ll return to the hotel around 8:30 p.m., enriched by the day's explorations.
Day 9 - Rome
