After a stroll, we continue to Setenil de las Bodegas, with its white houses built into the rock, and then to Ronda, dramatically poised above the Tajo Gorge. A typical lunch is included, followed by free time to wander, before we visit the historic bullring – entrance included. We then arrive in Jerez de la Frontera, with time to explore the historic centre – you can enjoy tapas in traditional tabancos.
Day 3 - Jerez de la frontera - El Puerto de Santa Maria - Cadiz - Seville
We are in the heart of Andalusia, in Jerez, famed for its sherry, equestrian tradition and flamenco. After breakfast, we visit the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art – tickets included – exploring the Carriage Museum and watching the training of Andalusian horses. Before leaving Jerez, we make a brief stop to photograph the exterior of the Moorish Alcázar. We then continue to El Puerto de Santa María to visit the Osborne wineries – tickets and tasting included. After some free time, we board a boat to Cádiz for a scenic journey of about 30–minutes. In this ancient city you have free time to explore the cathedral and the charming old town. Later in the afternoon, we cross the magnificent bridge towards Seville, arriving by day’s end.
Day 4 - Seville
After breakfast, we depart for Italica – entrance and a guided visit with a local guide included – to see the amphitheatre that once held 25,000 spectators, along with its baths and mosaics. Next, we head to Palos de la Frontera, the port from which Columbus’s ships set sail in 1492. We visit the Monastery of La Rábida and the Wharf of the Caravels – entrance included. You have free time for lunch in Huelva. In the afternoon, we continue along the Atlantic coast near Doñana National Park, stopping in El Rocío to visit its sanctuary and enjoy views of the wetlands. Return to Seville in the late afternoon.
Day 5 - Seville - Zaragoza
In the morning, we include a panoramic tour of Seville, seeing the cathedral and its famous Giralda, the banks of the Guadalquivir, and the atmospheric quarters of Santa Cruz and Triana. We then include a boat ride on the Guadalquivir. In the afternoon, we transfer you to the station to board the high–speed train, scheduled around 16:30, covering the 850 km to Zaragoza in under four hours – this sector is unescorted by the tour guide. On arrival in Zaragoza, you are transferred to the hotel.
Day 6 - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
We start with a morning panoramic tour of Zaragoza guided by a local expert. We visit the Cathedral–Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, trace the work of Goya, and see the Roman theatre and a Renaissance palace, before a stroll by the Aljafería Palace. After lunch, we head to Catalonia to visit the walled Poblet Abbey – tickets included – set amid beautiful scenery. We then continue to Barcelona, arriving in the evening.
Day 7 - Barcelona
This morning we include a panoramic tour of Barcelona, open to the Mediterranean and celebrated for Gaudí’s modernism, its lively Ramblas and the legacy of World Expositions and the Olympic Games. The tour ends at Maremagnum by the sea next to Columbus Square, where you can stroll through this vibrant area. The afternoon is at leisure, with return to the hotel at the end of the day.
Day 8 - Barcelona - Peniscola - Valencia
We travel south along the Mediterranean, stopping in Peñíscola, a charming medieval walled city surrounded by beautiful beaches, where you have time for a stroll. We continue to Valencia, arriving around lunchtime. In the afternoon, you enjoy a guided tour of this port city with over 2,000 years of history, where monuments from many eras contrast with the striking City of Arts and Sciences. You then have free time to explore, and a traditional local dinner is included.
Day 9 - Valencia - Alicante - Guadix - Granada
We continue through the pleasant landscapes of the Valencian Community to Alicante, a Mediterranean city of golden sandy beaches and a charming historic quarter, crowned by the Castle of Santa Bárbara. You have free time for a stroll. We travel on through the arid scenery of Murcia and stop en route for lunch. Entering Andalusia, we pause in Guadix, famous for its inhabited cave houses, its Renaissance cathedral and traditional neighbourhoods, with unique views of the Sierra Nevada. We continue to Granada, arriving in the late afternoon – dinner included.
Day 10 - Granada
We spend a full day in Granada. If your programme includes tickets, we explore the majestic Alhambra and the exquisite Generalife Gardens – masterpieces from the Arab period. In the afternoon, you have free time to discover the city, including the cathedral that houses the tombs of the Catholic Monarchs. Very important note: visitor numbers to the Alhambra are strictly regulated by law. To secure admission, tickets are issued on confirmation of your reservation – accurate personal details (full name and passport or ID number) are essential at the time of booking. Ticket costs are non–refundable in case of cancellation. In the rare event that the Alhambra visit is not possible, we will instead tour the Royal Alcázar of Seville, offering comparable historical and architectural significance.
Day 11 - Granada - Nerja - Malaga
Today we enjoy spectacular scenery as we cross the Sierra Nevada, then continue along the Mediterranean on the so–called Tropical Coast, where the mild year–round climate favours the cultivation of guavas, mangoes and avocados – and formerly sugar cane. We stop in Nerja, a charming coastal town with dramatic cliffs, and then continue to Málaga, capital of the Costa del Sol, lively and blessed with a beautiful historic centre. Our journey comes to an end here, leaving you with wonderful memories – please check your flight time in case you require an additional night.
