Day 1 - Madrid - Segovia - Pedraza - Bilbao
We'll begin our journey in the vibrant city of Madrid, setting off towards the stunning region of Castile. As we travel through scenic mountain landscapes, our first stop will be the historic city of Segovia. Here, we'll take a picturesque route to reach the Mirador de la Pradera de San Marcos, offering the best viewpoints of the Alcazar of Segovia. This fortress, renowned for inspiring the castle in Disney's Sleeping Beauty, boasts impressive medieval walls. We'll then park near the ancient Roman Aqueduct of Segovia, a remarkable 1st-century structure and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will have time at your leisure to wander through the old town, enjoy a meal, and explore landmarks such as the Plaza Mayor, the cathedral, and the Alcazar.Our adventure continues as we traverse charming little roads towards the enchanting village of Pedraza, celebrated as one of Spain's most beautiful medieval towns. With its cobbled streets, historic architecture, and the iconic 13th-century fortress, you'll have free time to soak in the atmosphere. Later in the afternoon, we head towards the Basque Country, arriving in Bilbao. The evening is yours to explore the old town at your own pace, where you can visit inviting taverns and bars to indulge in the local specialities, pintxos. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Bilbao - Guernica - San Sebastian
After breakfast, we'll embark on a guided tour of Bilbao, featuring the iconic Guggenheim Museum, renowned for its remarkable architecture. We will also explore the lively streets of the medieval old town, complete with its impressive cathedral. You’ll have some free time afterwards to enjoy a leisurely stroll and have lunch. We suggest visiting the La Ribera Market, uniquely designed like a boat and offering a taste of traditional Basque cuisine with its scenic views of the river.Following lunch, we'll continue to Guernica, a town steeped in history due to the tragic events of the Spanish Civil War, poignantly captured in Picasso’s renowned painting. Here, you’ll witness the historic Tree of Gernika, under which the Basque Country was granted its autonomy in the Middle Ages.Our next stop is Hondarribia (Fuenterrabía), a charming coastal town celebrated for its beaches, ancient walls, and maritime atmosphere. As you wander through its narrow, cobbled streets, you’ll discover the captivating historic centre. We’ll then proceed to San Sebastian, where we'll arrive by the day’s end. Our accommodation is typically situated atop Mount Igueldo, providing unrivalled views of this sophisticated city aglow at night.
Day 3 - San Sebastian - Burgos - Madrid
We begin our day with stunning views over San Sebastián Bay from Mount Igueldo, followed by a visit to the charming Miramar Palace and its exquisite gardens. You'll have some leisure time to unwind on the expansive beach or enjoy a leisurely stroll along the elegant boulevards. We will treat you to an authentic Basque pintxo experience, complete with a refreshing drink.In the early afternoon, we set off for Castile, taking in the beautiful scenery along the highway. Our next stop is Burgos, where we explore the historic centre, notably the impressive Gothic architecture of the Burgos Cathedral. We continue our journey to Madrid, arriving by day's end.As our adventure concludes, you'll carry with you memorable experiences from the trip.
