Exploring North Taiwan
Taipei - Yeh Liu - Jiufen - Shifen - Taipei. Leave the city behind as you set off from your hotel in Taipei for a full-day shared sightseeing tour exploring Taiwan’s dramatic northern coastline and charming mountain towns.
Your first stop is Yeh Liu Geopark, a surreal landscape of honeycomb rock formations, sculpted by sea and wind. You’ll have time to walk along the coastal trails and view its most iconic feature, the Queen’s Head - a naturally formed stone resembling the profile of a queen. The park is a fascinating showcase of geology, and you can spot formations with names like Fairy Shoe and Sea Candles along the way.
From Yeh Liu, continue inland to Jiufen, a former gold mining town perched on the slopes of the mountains. Wander the narrow alleyways of Jiufen Old Street, packed with teahouses, souvenir shops, and local snack stalls. Enjoy time to explore at your own pace and enjoy lunch at leisure - perhaps try traditional taro balls or a steaming bowl of fish ball soup with views over the East China Sea.
In the afternoon, head to Shifen Waterfall, sometimes called Taiwan’s “Little Niagara.” A short, easy walk brings you to a viewing platform overlooking this impressive 66-foot cascade, surrounded by lush greenery.
The day ends at Shifen Old Street, set along a historic railway line where trains still pass directly through the center of town. Here, you’ll have the chance to write your wishes on a colorful sky lantern and release it into the air - a local tradition believed to bring good luck. Afterwards, return to Taipei, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel in the early evening.

You then continue to Cheng-en Gate (Beimen), a historic city gate dating back to the Qing Dynasty, before moving on to Ximending, Taipei’s youth culture and shopping hotspot bursting with fashion, food, and entertainment. Here you will have a chance to grab lunch.
Later, take in the spiritual ambiance of Lungshan Temple, a richly decorated sanctuary where locals come to pray.
