Tours for Single Travellers

See the world and share the adventure with On The Go Tours

With us, travelling solo is far from travelling alone

Travelling alone can sometimes be a daunting prospect, particularly in countries where English is not commonly spoken or understood, or in places with a high culture shock factor. Our range of group tours is perfect for solo travellers, as travelling as part of an organised group in faraway places does provide security and peace of mind. We handle all of the arrangements for you and there will be a tour leader on hand to provide advice and help if needed, throughout the tour. Joining other travellers on our tours, you won't be travelling alone at all and you're likely to make long lasting friendships on holiday too. Single room - no single supplement

Solo travellers can now choose to have their own room, supplement-free. If you join one of the tours listed in the 'Single Room - No Supplement Tours' section, you can book a single room at no additional charge. We're launching this deal on a selection of our most popular tours to Egypt, India and Sri Lanka with more destinations to follow. It's the perfect way for solo travellers to travel the world without having to pay more.

Make new friends on holiday

Our tours attract a lot of single travellers, as well as couples and small groups of friends. Travelling as part of a group means that you can share your travel experiences with like minded people who have the same passion for travel. Even when group activities are not planned, most groups tend to socialise and go out together in the evening for meals. There's nothing like a change of routine and new experiences to bring people together and group tours are a great way of meeting new friends too.

No Single Supplements

Catering for single travellers, we have a 'no mandatory single supplement' policy on most of our group tours and we'll try to match you up with another solo traveller of the same sex so you don't have to pay for a single room. In most cases, even if we cannot match you up, you won't be charged a single supplement. If you would prefer the privacy of your own room and would like this guaranteed, then the single room price supplement applies. We've also recently launched a new 'single room - no single supplement' policy on a selection of tours so solo travellers can have their own room at no extra cost. Please note that our Handpicked range of tours generally carry a mandatory single supplement.

The benefits of our tours for single travellers

It's not always easy to find friends or family who want to travel to the same places that you do and the idea of travelling alone may put you off from visiting destinations you've always dreamed of going to. Our trips are an ideal way for solo travellers to go on holiday with the comfort and security of knowing they'll be travelling with other people and have a knowledgeable guide on hand too. You're also more likely to visit places off the beaten track and enjoy unique experiences that might have seemed too out of reach or hard to do alone.

Holidays with a mix of ages and nationalities

We tend to have a fairly even mix of single travellers, couples and small groups of friends on our tours and our tours attract a wide range of ages, from mid 20s upwards to 60 and above, which creates a great group dynamic, and over-50s or over-60s won't feel out of place at all. Our group tours are also a very international affair, with travellers from the UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and beyond so you'll get to know people from around the world. If you'd like to know who is already booked on a tour that you're looking to join and if there are any other solo travellers, that's no problem, just call us and we can let you know.

Solo Travellers - Frequently Asked Questions

If you're thinking of joining a tour as a solo traveller, know that you're not alone! We welcome solo travellers on all of our group tours so that you can enjoy your travel experience in the company of others. For first-time tour joiners, here are some FAQs asked by solo travellers to help you decide if joining a group tour is right for you.

Will there be other solo travellers on tour?

Our tours attract a range of people of various ages and from different countries with a mix of solo travellers, couples and groups of friends travelling together. More often than not we have solo travellers on our tours across all destinations so you're unlikely to be the only one though our reservations team can confirm how many other solo travellers are booked on the tour you are interested in.

Will I have to pay more as a solo traveller?

Only if you want your own room - if you are happy to share then we will pair you up with another solo traveller of the same sex so you won't have to pay a single supplement. On the majority of our tours we offer a 'no mandatory single supplement', which means even if we can't pair you up, solo travellers will not need to pay the single supplement. There are a few tours where the single supplement is compulsory if no other solo travellers are already booked. In this instance, if you are the first solo traveller to book we will confirm the booking with the single supplement but list you as available to share so that if another solo traveller of the same sex joins the tour at a later date we can refund the single supplement and pair you up. A small selection of tours do carry a mandatory single supplement and these are generally found in our Handpicked range of tours. If you prefer to have your own room but don't want to pay more, check out our range of 'single room - no single supplement' tours featured below.

How does the rooming work?

Solo travellers of the same sex will be paired up to share a twin room. If you have opted for the single supplement then you will be accommodated in a single room, which will either have one double bed for single use or a single bed.

Will I get much time to myself?

Our shorter tour itineraries are packed with sightseeing so that you can get the most out of the destination in the time you have though the evenings are generally free for travellers to do as they wish. The tour group will often stick together for the evening meal though this is entirely a personal choice - if you prefer to head off on your own and explore, you are more than welcome to do so. Depending on the day's schedule, we'll always try to factor in free time at the sites you'll be visiting so you can walk around at leisure taking photographs and enjoying the site you're way. Our longer tour itineraries often include a few free afternoons or a free day here and there for the flexibility to choose locally offered activities or simply relax.

Are your holidays suitable for single travellers over 50?

Yes, absolutely. Our tours are designed to suit travellers of a wide age range. Most of our trips involve a moderate level of activity, like exploring historic sites like Petra, boarding trains, walking through local markets etc. So you do need to be in good health and have a normal level of fitness. With an average age of around 40, lots of over 50s single travellers join our trips, so you won't feel out of place at all. So long as you feel young at heart, have an open mind and a thirst for new travel experiences, you'll have a fabulous time on holiday with us.

What should I expect as a solo traveller?

With arrival transfers included in all of our group tours, you'll be met on your arrival and taken to the joining hotel where you'll be able to meet the tour leader and the rest of the group, which makes for a hassle-free arrival. The group often gels quite quickly and will choose to spend meals together but you have the choice to be as involved or as independent as what suits you. Even if you're the only solo traveller on the tour you'll find the rest of the group friendly and eager to include you. Travellers can make life-long friends on group tours and often keep in touch after the tour ends, sharing photographs and reminiscing on their experience.
