Why we're a top choice for over 50s
Looking for a holiday to exotic destinations without any hassle? Hitting the right balance, our tours combine fun local experiences with all the support and assurance you'd expect when travelling as part of a guided group. You'll also meet an interesting mix of people with friendly tour guides on hand to really bring the history and culture of each country to life. Taking you to the very heart of each destination, there will be some physical activity like walking around local sites, exploring local markets and boarding trains, so you will need a moderate degree of fitness to get the most out of your holiday with us.
Mix of People
Our tours attract a wide range of travellers from all corners of the globe and from all age brackets. You might find yourself sharing stories with those in their 20s or learning a thing or two from a plucky 70 year old. Over a third of our travellers are aged over 50 so you'll be in like-minded company with the chance to meet those of other generations for a truly varied travel experience.
We're proud of our tour guides who, for many of our travellers, are one of their holiday highlights. We employ local guides who are passionate about their country, knowledgeable about the history and enjoy teaching travellers about their culture. They're on hand to ensure your travel experience runs as smoothly as possible and provide top recommendations.
Adventurous holidays don't have to mean roughing it and on our group tours we typically use 3-5* hotels with en suite rooms and a good selection of amenities. Standard of accommodation does vary across destinations and our tour ranges but we always seek out the best value for your money and properties that are well-located and offer a little character, like havelis and floating jungle hotels.
We include arrival transfers on our tours so that you arrive to a friendly face who will get you to your hotel for a comfortable first night in destination. Many of our tours also include departure airport transfers and while on tour we use comfortable vehicles to get you from A to B. We also include local transportation such as rickshaws, tuk tuks and boats to spice it up.
Our carefully planned tours follow set itineraries but there's the option to add additional nights at the beginning or end if you want to spend more time away. We also include enough free time on our tours so you can shop, relax or explore to your heart's content with fun bolt-ons, optional activities and half-day excursions available to add so you can make the most of your holiday.
Aside from seeing the popular sights, what really makes a holiday special is the unique experiences you have while travelling and so we ensure all our tours include lots of authentic experiences. Whether it's taking a rickshaw ride through the hutongs of Beijing or visiting local schools which we support with our charity efforts, you'll finish your tour with wonderful memories.
Great Group Sizes
The size of our group tours is usually around 16-18 passengers, which means a good sociable mix without it feeling at all impersonal. It really depends on the destination with some countries attracting smaller, more intimate groups, such as the Himalayas and our trekking tours, while popular events, such as Diwali and New Year's, draw in a much larger number of travellers.
No Single Supplements
Travelling on your own doesn't have to mean paying more as many of our group tours do not carry compulsory single supplements. If you're flying solo but would be happy to be paired up with another solo traveller of the same sex, we'll match you up where possible. It's a great way to get to know people! Alternatively, if you prefer to have a room to yourself there's always this option too.
Holiday ranges to suit all ages
To help you decide which tour is best for them, we categorise our portfolio of trips into five ranges, each offering something a little different - whether it's days of sightseeing followed by a comfortable night's sleep, or outdoor adventure with more rustic accommodation that complements the activity. Have a read of our ranges following the links below and look out for the banners on our tours so you can choose the trip that's just right for you.
Holidays for over 50s - Frequently Asked Questions
Here you'll find answers to the most commonly asked questions travellers over the age of 50 have about our tours and holidays.
What’s the average age of your travellers?
Our average passenger age is in the 40s bracket though our tours attract a wide age range from those in their 20s to those in their 70s! It’s likely you’ll be travelling with those of a similar age to you with others of different generations to add a little spice to the group demographic.
What’s the average group size?
On most of our tours the average group size is between 16-18 passengers with a mix of nationalities and ages. Group size does vary between destinations and across departure dates so you may find yourself travelling in a group as small as 4-6 passengers or in a group of up to 28 on our popular festival departures.
How fit do I have to be to join your tours?
As our name suggests, our tours include a number of days when you’ll be ‘on the go’, exploring the local sites on foot and hopping on and off transportation that will get you from A to B, whether that be a tuk tuk or a modern van. We do temper this with just enough free time for you to take it easy and as such only a moderate level of fitness is required. If you are thinking of joining one of our more active tours, such as a trekking holiday, then a higher standard of fitness is needed to cope with the long days of walking and the higher altitudes, and we recommend you consult your doctor before booking. If you’re at all worried about the pace of our group tours, consider a bespoke tailor-made itinerary instead where you can set the pace.
Will I have to pay more as a solo traveller?
On the majority of our group tours we offer a non-compulsory single supplement policy – if you’re happy to share with another traveller of the same sex then we’ll pair you up. In most cases even if we are unable to pair you up, you still won’t have to pay the single supplement. Of course, if you prefer to have a room to yourself then this option is available. On certain tours and departure dates we also offer your own room at no extra cost. Check out our solo travellers page for more information.
What sort of accommodation is included on your trips?
We mostly use well-located 3-4* hotels on our group tours but in countries where accommodation offers great value for money we may use the occasional 5* property too. A hotel is more than just somewhere to rest your head and to make your holiday as unique as possible we combine modern hotels with heritage properties that can include havelis in India and riads in Morocco. In other destinations you may be spending the night on a floating hotel in the jungle or a courtyard mansion in a colonial city – wherever you are we make sure our hotels are comfortable and provide the necessary amenities. In places where the great outdoors is the star attraction accommodation may be a little more basic with permanent desert camps in the Sahara and Wadi Rum a good example of this.
I don't want to travel with a group. Do you offer private options?
We most certainly do! If you are happy with our group tour itineraries but would prefer to travel without the group then you can opt for our Private Tour Supplement, which means you’ll be travelling in private transport and have the services of local English-speaking guides all to yourself.
I'd like to organise a trip with my own group of friends and family. Is this possible?
It most certainly is! We offer bespoke tailor-made holidays to the majority of our destinations and can put together a tour that suits you and your travelling party perfectly. Whether you’re planning a special birthday celebration or getting the family together for an adventurous holiday, our team of tailor-made specialists can create the ideal itinerary for your needs, based on your exact requirements. Best of all, there’s no minimum or maximum numbers when it comes to private groups.
