Day 1 - Vienna
Welcome to Vienna! Once you arrive, we'll transfer you to your hotel, where you'll have some time to settle in and unwind. As you relax and enjoy your free time, feel free to explore the vibrant surroundings of the city at your leisure. In the afternoon, be sure to check the hotel reception boards for important information about the start of your exciting tour. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Vienna
Today, we will embark on a fascinating sightseeing tour of Vienna with a local expert. Together, we'll explore the city's grand avenues, splendid palaces, and bustling city centre. Our journey will then take us to Schönbrunn Palace, where you're free to wander and savour the beauty of its lush gardens. As evening approaches, we will visit the City Hall Square, one of Vienna’s vibrant hubs, where you have the chance to discover the area's nightlife and enjoy dinner at your leisure in the lively streets nearby.
Day 3 - Vienna - Maribor - Zagreb
We will leave the captivating city of Vienna, embarking on a journey filled with scenic beauty as we cross the mountains into Slovenia. Our first destination is Maribor, where we will enjoy a leisurely walk around its notable cathedral and charming castle. Continuing on, we will make our way to Croatia, reaching the vibrant capital, Zagreb, by lunchtime. There, a local guide will lead us on a panoramic tour of the city. We'll explore and admire the unique contrast between the two hills, the historic upper town, and the modern developments of Croatia's energetic capital. To conclude the day, we will share a delightful dinner, savouring local flavours and experiences.
Day 4 - Zagreb - Banja Luka - Jajce - Sarajevo
We'll set off early this morning to journey into Bosnia. Be prepared for potential delays due to border formalities. As we travel, reminders of the war in the 1990s will be visible in certain areas. We'll make our first stop in Banja Luka, the capital of the Republika Srpska, and the second-largest city in Bosnia after Sarajevo. Here, you'll have the opportunity to explore the city's notable sites, including its fortress and Orthodox cathedral, and find a spot for lunch. Our journey continues to Jajce, renowned for its cultural diversity and notable landmarks such as its mosque, fortress, and an impressive waterfall—entry is included in your tour. After taking in the sights, we'll head to Sarajevo, arriving by evening. Once in Sarajevo, you'll have the chance to wander through its historic centre and visit the charismatic Bazaar, an old Ottoman market famous for its rich architecture and traditional shopping experience. Dinner is included in your day.
Day 5 - Sarajevo - Mostar - Dubrovnik
In the morning, we will explore Sarajevo, a remarkable city often referred to as the "Jerusalem of Europe" due to its harmonious blend of diverse religious sites. Our guided tour will take us through the old town, rich in Ottoman history, where we'll visit a stunning mosque dating back more than 500 years and admire a beautiful fountain. After soaking in the city's unique atmosphere, we will journey through breathtaking landscapes to Mostar. Here, you’ll have the chance to wander through the city’s charming historic centre and admire the iconic stone bridge, which distinctly divides the Orthodox, Muslim, and Catholic communities. There will be time for lunch and a leisurely stroll. Our day continues as we travel onwards to Croatia, where we'll prepare for possible delays at the border. We'll arrive in Dubrovnik later in the day, ready to unwind with an included dinner.
Day 6 - Dubrovnik
Explore the captivating beauty of Dubrovnik today with a guided panoramic tour. The city is dramatically perched on a cliff, enveloped by ancient walls and gently caressed by the Adriatic Sea. It boasts a remarkably preserved historic centre recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site. We will take in breathtaking views from a vantage point along the coastal road. Our tour includes visits to the Franciscan Monastery, known for housing Europe's oldest pharmacy, and the Assumption Cathedral. In the afternoon, we will embark on a short voyage to Lokrum, a charming island reachable within 15 minutes. This island features the remains of an eleventh-century Benedictine monastery and has been featured in scenes from the popular series Game of Thrones. After our explorations, you will have free time to discover more of Dubrovnik at your own pace before we return to the hotel by late afternoon. Dinner is included, providing a moment to unwind and reflect on the day's experiences. Please note that during the months from November to March, the boat service to Lokrum is not operational, so the visit will not take place in this period. Accommodation might occasionally be situated in Cavtat, a nearby seaside town.
Day 7 - Dubrovnik - Ston - Split
We'll begin our day by journeying along Croatia's stunning coastline, featuring breathtaking views of the sea and nearby islands. Our first pause will be in Ston, a quaint town renowned for having one of the longest defensive stone walls in the world. As we traverse this picturesque landscape, we’ll cross the remarkable Pelješac Bridge, offering impressive vistas over the Adriatic Sea. Upon arriving in Split around midday, we'll embark on a guided tour that includes entry to Diocletian's Palace. You'll explore this immense Roman palace complex, navigating its intriguing network of streets and enjoying the spectacular sea views. Dinner will be provided to round off your day.
Day 8 - Split - Plitvice - Opatija
We set out from Split towards Croatia's inland, passing through enchanting hilly landscapes until we reach the breathtaking Plitvice Lakes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you can soak in the beauty of the park's crystalline lakes and cascading waterfalls, meander along scenic paths, or opt for a tranquil boat trip on the clear waters. Your visit includes tickets for either the boat journey or a relaxing train ride. After taking in the natural wonders and enjoying lunch, we journey northwards back to the coast. Upon arriving in Opatija, a delightful resort town famed for its vibrant atmosphere, you will enjoy a hearty dinner, which is included, and settle into your accommodation. Do note that, occasionally due to weather conditions or a surge in visitors, the train or boat service in Plitvice may not be available.
Day 9 - Opatija - Postojna - Bled - Ljubljana
We embark on our journey to Slovenia today, with our first destination being the remarkable Postojna Cave. Among the largest in the world, the cave can be partially explored by train, offering a unique experience of its impressive limestone formations. Our travels then take us to the enchanting town of Bled, set against the stunning backdrop of Lake Bled. Here, we’ll enjoy a boat ride to the island, home to a monastery whose bell tower complements the picturesque setting against the medieval castle. Our day concludes in Slovenia's charming capital, Ljubljana, where a guided tour will introduce us to the history and character of this delightful Central European city. Dinner is included.
Day 10 - Ljubljana - Venice
This morning in Ljubljana, take the time to explore this charming capital at your own leisure. Wander through the historical centre, with its delightful mix of Baroque and modern architecture, or perhaps settle into a cosy café for a taste of local flavours. As the day unfolds, we will journey onward to the Adriatic coast, crossing into Italy. Our destination is Venice, a city renowned for its unique beauty and intricate network of canals. We will arrive in the evening and stay in the Mestre district, allowing you to rest and prepare for the wonders of Venice that await you.
Day 11 - Venice
This morning, we will arrange for a boat transfer to the heart of Venice, famously constructed on more than 100 islands and linked by over 400 bridges. Our boat will take us to the renowned St. Mark’s area. There, we’ll enjoy a guided walking tour of this enchanting canal city. Afterwards, you will have ample free time to wander and discover Venice at your leisure. In the afternoon, indulge yourself with an optional gondola ride along the legendary canals, an iconic Venetian experience.
Day 12 - Venice
Following breakfast, our adventure concludes, leaving you with a collection of cherished memories from this remarkable journey.
