Welcome to China! Upon your arrival in Beijing, you'll be met and transferred to your hotel for check-in. After settling in, you can spend the rest of the day at your leisure. Explore Beijing or unwind at the hotel in preparation for the adventure ahead. In the evening, enjoy a tasty welcome dinner.
Start your day with breakfast at the hotel before heading to the iconic Great Wall.
Explore the Mutianyu Section, praised as an outstanding section of the Great Wall. In spring, the mountain is covered with beautiful flowers; in summer, it is lush and accompanied by the sound of flowing water; in autumn, the mountains are adorned with red leaves and abundant fruits; and in winter, it is blanketed in white snow, presenting a picturesque northern scenery. Perhaps even take the cable car, which can be arranged locally.
Afterward, experience a traditional tea ceremony and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Later, you'll drive back to downtown Beijing, where you can enjoy dinner at your own leisure.
Beijing - Xi'an. After breakfast, visit Tiananmen Square, where the founding of the People’s Republic of China took place. Marvel at the vast square with the iconic portrait of Mao Zedong towering over the Tiananmen gates. As one of the largest public squares in the world, it has been the backdrop for many significant events in China's history.
Continue to the Forbidden City, now known as the Palace Museum, and explore the best-preserved palace complex in China. This former imperial residence of the Ming and Qing dynasties features over 800 buildings and 9,000 chambers that were once home to the elite officials and associates of the imperial family. Please note that the Forbidden City is closed on Mondays. If tickets are sold out during peak season, you may visit the Lama Temple and Confucius Temple as alternatives.
Afterward, enjoy lunch at your leisure before transferring to the railway station for a second-class high-speed train ride to Xi’an. Upon arrival, meet your local guide and enjoy dinner at your own leisure.
Today, you'll head to the extraordinary Terracotta Army and Warriors site. Explore the collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, China’s first Emperor. This army, consisting of 8,000 life-size soldiers, each unique, was crafted to guard the emperor’s mausoleum. You’ll also visit a Terracotta Warrior Factory to learn about the ancient production techniques used to create these remarkable figures.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before visiting a jade carving factory. Later, visit the lively atmosphere of Xi’an’s Muslim Quarter and the Great Mosque. The bustling neighborhood is filled with the aroma of sizzling lamb skewers and fragrant spices from its numerous food stalls. Sample local delicacies like Biangbiang noodles and pita bread soaked in mutton soup. Afterwards, spend the night at leisure.
Set off for an early morning Tai Chi session at a local park near the Xi'an City Wall. Guided by a skilled Kung Fu master, you'll learn the gentle yet powerful movements of this ancient martial art.
Next, explore the City Wall, a remarkable structure that stands as one of the oldest and best-preserved city walls in China. Following lunch, you'll transfer to the train station to board the high-speed train (approx. 3.5 to 4 hours) to Chengdu.
Upon your arrival in Chengdu, you'll be greeted by your local guide who will accompany you on an exploration of the renowned Narrow and Wide Alley. These ancient alleys, part of Chengdu's Historical and Cultural Protection Project, are steeped in history and charm. Wander through the broad, narrow, and cross alleys, where you'll discover traditional courtyards known as Siheyuan, and learn about the notable figures who once called these lanes home.
You'll then transfer to your hotel for check-in, with the evening free for you to explore the local dining scene at your own pace.
Chengdu - Kunming. Get up close and personal with China's beloved mascot today, as you head to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Stroll through this lush sanctuary as you observe the playful antics of these gentle giants and gain insights into the critical conservation efforts that are helping to protect their future. After a morning spent with these iconic animals, enjoy a traditional lunch at a local Sichuan restaurant.
In the afternoon, transfer to the train station for your journey to Kunming. Board the 2nd class high-speed train and relax as you travel through China's picturesque landscapes, with the journey taking approximately 6 to 8 hours. Upon arrival in Kunming, you'll be transferred to your hotel for check-in. The evening is yours to explore the local dining scene or simply unwind after your day of travel.
After hotel breakfast, set out to explore the extraordinary Black Stone Forest. This natural site features towering limestone formations that have been sculpted by the forces of nature. Kunming - Pu'er. Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before transferring to the train station for your journey to Pu’er. Board the 2nd class high-speed train for a scenic ride of approximately 2-3 hours. Known as the birthplace of tea and the starting point of the ancient Tea Horse Road, Pu’er is a haven for tea enthusiasts and those interested in Chinese tea culture.
Upon arrival in Pu’er, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Afterward, embark on a trek along the historic Tea Horse Road. As you walk, you’ll encounter remnants of the past and imagine the footsteps of travelers who once traversed this ancient trade route. This trek offers an immersive experience, connecting you with the region's deep historical roots.
Next, visit Nakeli Village, once an important station on the Tea Horse Road, which dates back around a thousand years. This village played a crucial role in the trade network connecting Yunnan to Tibet and Central China via Sichuan Province. Then, return to Pu’er city, where the evening is free for you to explore.
Pu'er - Jingmai. Start your day with a scenic drive to Lancang. Begin your visit at Laodabao Village, home to the Lahu people, renowned for their musical talent and vibrant traditions. Surrounded by lush greenery and rolling hills, this village offers an authentic experience. Sit with a local family to hear their stories, learn about their heritage, and try homemade dishes along with fresh fruits grown in their own yard.
After lunch with the local family, you'll head to Jingmai Mountain, a newly recognized UNESCO site, and take in the stunning views. Next, visit Wengji Village, where the Jinuo people, one of China’s last remaining ethnic groups, live. With around 400 residents, the village is deeply connected to the tea industry.
If time permits, explore Nuogan Village, home to the Dai people. The Dai here have unique housing styles, tile colors, and costumes influenced by the neighbouring Jinuo and Lahu cultures. As the evening sets, return to your hotel to wind down and enjoy dinner at your leisure.
Jingmai - Xishuangbanna. Start the day with breakfast at the hotel before driving to Xishuangbanna. En route, make a stop at Guangmangshan Tea Plantation, just an hour away, where you’ll have the opportunity to join locals in picking tea leaves.
Learn about the intricate steps of tea processing, including the critical role of temperature and time in crafting the perfect blend. Conclude this experience with a traditional tea ceremony, savouring unique tea flavours. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, and for dinner, explore dining options on your own.
Xishuangbanna - Luang Prabang. Goodbye China, hello Laos! Following breakfast, you'll be transferred to the railway station for your high-speed train to Luang Prabang (approx. 4 hours), arriving around 15:45. We recommend packing a lunch to enjoy during the journey.
Upon arrival in Luang Prabang, you'll be met at the train station and transferred to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, exploring this vibrant city on your own.
