Day 1 - San Jose
Your Costa Rican adventure begins upon arrival at Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José. A representative will meet you and escort you to your transport, which will take you to your hotel in San José for your first night in the country. This allows you to settle in comfortably after your journey and prepare for the days ahead. Overnight in San José.
Day 2 - San Jose - Savegre de Aguirre
After breakfast, we will collect you at around 8 am for a scenic transfer to the Savegre area. En route, enjoy a two-hour guided panoramic tour of San José, the capital of Costa Rica. We will visit key landmarks including the Central Market (closed on Sundays), the façade of the National Theatre, Central Park, Democracy Plaza, Morazán Park, the National Museum, and several historic monuments and buildings. Around 11 am, we will continue to your chosen hotel in the Savegre area, where you will spend the night.
Day 3 - Turrialba
After breakfast at the hotel, we depart at approximately 8.30 am for Turrialba, a peaceful town known for its charming streets and scenic surroundings. It is one of the few places in Costa Rica with direct access to a volcano crater. On a clear day, from the summit, you can see the Irazú, Poás and Barva volcanoes in the distance. Around 11 am, we take a guided two-hour tour of Irazú Volcano National Park. Climbing to the main crater, you will enjoy impressive views of Cartago city and the Talamanca Mountain Range. After the visit, we head to Cartago for lunch (not included), followed by an afternoon transfer to Turrialba, arriving around 4.30 pm. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Overnight in Turrialba.
Day 4 - Turrialba
After breakfast, we will collect you at 8 am for a visit to Guayabo National Archaeological Monument, Costa Rica’s largest and most significant archaeological site. Nestled beneath the Turrialba Volcano, this ancient city once housed over 10,000 people before mysteriously disappearing prior to the Spanish arrival in the 16th century. A guide will lead you through the site, explaining the excavations and the history of its former inhabitants. You will see well-preserved structures including mounds, bridges, and large stone formations. The visit lasts around three and a half hours. Afterwards, you can explore Turrialba town at your leisure and enjoy lunch (not included) at one of the local sodas—small, traditional eateries. We will return to the hotel in the afternoon, leaving the rest of the day free to relax. Overnight in Turrialba.
Day 5 - Turrialba - Puerto Viejo - Puerto Viejo de Talamanca
After breakfast, check out of the hotel and meet your guide at around 8.00 am for the transfer to Puerto Viejo on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast. Upon arrival around midday, check in to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Puerto Viejo is known for its clear waters and coral reefs, offering a relaxing beach atmosphere to unwind and enjoy the surroundings. Overnight in Puerto Viejo.
Day 6 - Puerto Viejo - Puerto Viejo de Talamanca
After breakfast, we collect you at around 8.30 am to visit Cahuita National Park. Together with your guide, you will explore a 3.5-kilometre trail between Cahuita Point and the nearby town, where you may spot wildlife such as snakes, sloths, white-faced and howler monkeys, anteaters, and armadillos. Following approximately six hours in the park, you can relax on the beach with its calm, warm waters or return to the hotel to unwind by the pool. Overnight in Puerto Viejo.
Day 7 - Puerto Viejo - Arenal - San Carlos
After breakfast, we depart at approximately 9.30 am for the Arenal area, home to one of Costa Rica’s most active volcanoes and the scenic Lake Arenal. The journey includes views of the lake before arriving around 2.30 pm. Upon arrival, you will check in to your chosen hotel and have the afternoon at leisure to explore the area independently. Overnight in Arenal.
Day 8 - San Carlos
After breakfast, meet your guide at around 8.00 am for a four-hour walking tour of Arenal Volcano National Park. The guide will share insights into the volcano’s active periods and the surrounding lush landscape. Keep an eye out for wildlife such as sloths, howler monkeys, and anteaters as you explore the trails beneath the now-dormant volcano. You will return to the hotel by approximately 12.30 pm, leaving the afternoon free to relax or explore at your own pace. Overnight in Arenal.
Day 9 - San Jose
Enjoy a final breakfast before we transfer you to Juan Santamaría International Airport for your onward flight. This marks the end of your Costa Rican journey, with time to reflect on the experiences and memories made throughout your trip.
