Fly north to Darjeeling for a dawn glow over Kanchenjunga, a toy train joyride and fragrant tea gardens. Itinerary
Day 1 - Kolkata
Arrive in Kolkata. On landing at Kolkata airport, we’ll meet you and assist with your transfer to the hotel – standard check-in and check-out are at 12:00, with early check-in subject to availability. Later, we take a city tour of Kolkata’s key landmarks – Fort William, Victoria Memorial, Howrah Bridge and the Zoological Gardens. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2 - Kolkata to Sundarbans National Park
After breakfast at the hotel, we drive from Kolkata to Sundarbans National Park – a wilderness laced with rivers and home to Royal Bengal tigers, as well as crocodiles, snakes and deer. On arrival, we take a boat cruise through the park’s creeks and waterways to explore the habitat and look out for wildlife. Overnight at the hotel/resort.
Day 3 - Exploring the Sundarbans
After breakfast, we board our vessel to cruise along the mangrove creeks, then take a village tour. We meet fishermen, honey collectors and woodcutters to hear about their work and the surrounding forest. We continue to the Sudhanyakhali watchtower – a renowned vantage point from which many Royal Bengal Tigers are sighted. Overnight at the hotel/resort.
Day 4 - Journey to Darjeeling
After breakfast in Sunderban National Park, we transfer by motorboat to Sonakhali or Godhkhali jetty and drive to Kolkata airport for our flight to Bagdogra. On arrival, we meet our driver and continue by road to Darjeeling – 62 km, around 2 hours. We check in at the hotel. Overnight in Darjeeling.
Day 5 - Tiger Hill Sunrise & Darjeeling Sightseeing
We start early with a 4.00 am pick-up for Tiger Hill to watch the colourful sunrise over Mount Kanchendzonga. On the way back we visit Ghoom Monastery and the Batasia Loop, returning to the hotel for breakfast.
After breakfast we visit the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, PN Zoological Park – closed on Thursdays – Tenzing Rock, the Ropeway viewpoint, the Tibetan Refugee Centre – closed on Sundays – Happy Valley Tea Garden for an outer view only, and Lloyd Botanical Garden. In the afternoon we enjoy the Toy Train joyride. Your evening is free to explore the market. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 6 - Darjeeling to Pelling
After breakfast at the hotel, we drive from Darjeeling to Pelling – approximately 75 km – a journey of around three hours, and check in on arrival. Later, we visit Pemayangtse Monastery – one of Sikkim’s oldest monastic centres – and the nearby Rabdentse ruins, the former royal capital of Sikkim. The rest of the day is free for you to explore sights that interest you. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 7 - Pelling to Gangtok
After breakfast, we drive from Pelling to Gangtok – about 120 kilometres, roughly 4 hours – following NH 31A via Temi, Taraku, Singtam, Rangpo and Ranipool. The route passes lush forests and tea gardens, and we pause en route to sample local Sikkimese tea. On arrival in Gangtok, we check in at the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 8 - Exploring Gangtok
After breakfast at the hotel, we visit Rumtek Monastery, the Institute of Tibetology, Enchey Monastery and Hanuman Tok – a Hindu temple. You then have free time to explore the sights that interest you and browse the local market at your own pace. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 9 - Gangtok to Kalimpong
After breakfast, we drive from Gangtok to Kalimpong – about 75 km, taking roughly 2 hours – and check in to the hotel. In the afternoon we visit Durpin Monastery, Dr Graham’s Homes, Sherpa View Point, Durga Mandir and Mangal Dham. The remainder of the day is at leisure – you can relax or browse the local market. Overnight in Kalimpong.
Day 10 - Return to Kolkata
After breakfast at the hotel, we drive to Bagdogra Airport – 75 kilometres, approximately 2 hours – for the flight to Kolkata. On arrival in Kolkata, you connect with your onward flight.
