Day 1 - Dublin
Welcome to Dublin – we arrange your transfer to the hotel and you have time to settle in. In the afternoon we share practical information, either in person or via the noticeboard at hotel reception.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Dublin
This morning we take a panoramic tour of Dublin – strolling along the River Liffey, enjoying its parks, the historic university and lively central streets, and viewing the exterior of Trinity College. The afternoon is free for you to explore at your leisure. Note: depending on arrival time in Dublin and daylight hours, this tour may run the previous afternoon.
Day 3 - Dublin - Powerscourt - Kilkenny - Cashel - Cork
We leave Dublin for nearby Powerscourt to visit its magnificent eighteenth century gardens (admission included) – admire fountains, Japanese gardens and a pet cemetery. We continue to Kilkenny, where you have time for lunch and a stroll, then head south to the Rock of Cashel (admission included), an imposing medieval fortress. We reach Cork in the evening, and you can take a walk in the centre. Dinner included.
Day 4 - Cork - Kinsale - Killarney - Limerick
We travel to Kinsale, pausing at Charles Fort to admire sweeping ocean views beside this seventeenth century stronghold. You have time to explore Kinsale’s historic centre. We then continue to Killarney – you have time for lunch and a wander – before we enjoy a romantic jaunting car ride through the National Park to Ross Castle, followed by a short cruise on the lake. We make a brief stop in Adare, with its stone cottages, thatched roofs and the ruins of an old abbey, before reaching Limerick by mid afternoon, where you can explore the centre, visit the castle, walk by the river, see the cathedral or browse the shops. Dinner included.
Day 5 - Limerick - Cliffs of Moher - Galway
Today we visit Bunratty Folk Park (tickets included) – a wonderful open air museum of traditional cottages and old market streets, with a castle that evokes medieval life. We continue to Caherconnell to see the Poulnabrone Dolmen – we might be lucky enough to watch sheepdogs herding. Afterwards we visit the dramatic Cliffs of Moher (admission included), and you can walk to O’Brien’s Tower if you wish. We then cross the Burren National Park, with its striking landscapes, and arrive in Galway.
Day 6 - Galway - Clonmacnoise - Dublin
We set off for Cong, a picturesque village amid lakes. We visit the ruins of the Royal Abbey and stroll around Ashford Castle, a medieval castle now operating as a hotel. Next we travel to Clonmacnoise to visit the Celtic monastic ruins (tickets with guided tour included). We then stop in Athlone, where you have time for lunch and a stroll, before continuing to Dublin and arriving in the evening. Note: owing to renovation work at Clonmacnoise, the visit will be shorter than usual.
Day 7 - Dublin - Caernarfon - Liverpool
We board an early morning ferry for Wales, a crossing of about three to three and a half hours. Our first stop is Caernarfon, a seaside town dominated by its impressive castle – you have time for lunch and a stroll. We continue to Liverpool for a short orientation by bus in this storied port city. You may wish to visit the Beatles museum.
Day 8 - Liverpool - Stratford - Oxford - London
Today we explore central England, beginning with Stratford upon Avon, Shakespeare’s birthplace, where you have free time for lunch and to wander. Afterwards we travel to Oxford, renowned for its centuries of learning and culture, alma mater to kings, politicians, philosophers and scientists. We then continue to London, arriving in the evening.
Day 9 - London
In the morning we take a city tour of London – Westminster, the Parliament, the City and the Thames. The afternoon is free for you to explore, or you can join an optional excursion to the Thames Valley, including Windsor, crowned by its castle. In the evening we meet at Piccadilly for a walk through Leicester Square, Chinatown and Soho – lively areas famed for theatres and entertainment – noting that in some cases this evening programme may be arranged for the previous day on arrival. We return to the hotel by bus.
Day 10 - London
A free day in London – enjoy the moment, discover new corners and let each neighbourhood reveal its stories at your own pace.
Day 11 - London
After breakfast our journey comes to an end – leaving you with wonderful, lasting memories.
