Dolomites by Train

Arrive in Italy, either in Milan or Venice, and make your own way to our hotel in Molveno, besides the lake of the same name and nestled under the shadow of the Brenta Dolomites. After checking in, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure. In the evening, join your fellow travellers for dinner at our hotel.

Tour Style: On this tour you will stay in the same hotel throughout, with included excursions and free time to spend at leisure. On the excursions the maximum group size is 45. A tour leader is on hand at the hotel to provide information and assistance throughout your stay.

Molveno - Bolzano - Collalbo - Molveno. After breakfast, we set off on a full-day excursion with our expert guide, beginning with a visit to Bolzano, the gateway to the Dolomites. We’ll explore the city's wonderful art, architecture, and treasures on a walking tour, followed by some free time for further exploration at your leisure.

In the afternoon, we will take the Renon Cable Car to the hilltop village of Soprabolzano (journey time approximately 12 minutes), where we will board the Renon Railway for our onward journey to the picturesque mountain town of Collalbo (journey time approximately 15 minutes). As the historic narrow-gauge train climbs to an altitude of 1,221 metres, we will enjoy views of some of the most dramatic scenery in the Dolomites.

On our return by coach to the hotel in the late afternoon, we will have some photo opportunities at the Earth Pyramids rock formations in the South Tyrol. Arriving back in Molveno, the evening is at leisure.

Molveno - Mendel Pass - Molveno. Today, we will journey to the village of San Antonio, nestled at the foothills of the Mendola mountain range. Here, we will board the funicular to ascend to Passo della Mendola (a journey of approximately 12 minutes each way). The ride offers stunning views as we cross bridges, pass through woodlands, and climb to 1,363 metres.

After descending, our guide will take us to a local winery for an included wine tasting before we return to our hotel in the afternoon.

Molveno - Mezzolombardo - Caldes - Cles - Molveno. Today we are travelling by coach to the historic town of Mezzolombardo, where we will board a train for a scenic journey through the mountains to Caldes (journey time approx. 45 minutes). Upon arrival, we will visit the impressive 13th-century Gothic-style Caldes Castle, which overlooks the Noce River. You will then have some free time to explore at your leisure.

Later, we visit the Assessorile Palace (Palace of Justice) in the village of Cles. The building's architecture reflects a 15th-century reconstruction of a 13th-century tower and is famous for its frescoed walls.

Molveno - Lake Garda - Molveno. Join us today for a full-day excursion to Lake Garda, where we will enjoy a relaxing boat trip on the lake and you will have some free time to explore the picturesque town of Limone at your leisure.

Molveno - Trento - Molveno. This morning, we will embark on an excursion to the former Roman settlement of Trento, where our guide will lead us on a walking tour through the colourful streets, including a visit to Buonconsiglio Castle. With its impressive architecture, beautiful frescoes, and picturesque surroundings, Buonconsiglio Castle offers us a captivating journey through the history of Trento.

You can spend your final day as you choose, enjoying the beautiful lakeside setting, shopping for last-minute souvenirs, or relaxing with a coffee, gelato, or glass of wine at a local café.
