Day 1 - Rome
As you arrive in Rome, our team will ensure a seamless transition to your hotel, where you'll have some free time to unwind and explore. Later in the afternoon, you'll find essential information about the commencement of our journey available on the boards at the hotel reception. Please bear in mind that travellers may join or depart at different points along the route, but rest assured the group size will remain within comfortable limits. Enjoy this initial day of leisure in the bustling heart of Italy, and prepare for the adventure that awaits you. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Rome
On the second day of our adventure in Rome, we will embark on a three-hour guided exploration of the Eternal City. Our journey will start with a walking tour through the historic heart of Imperial Rome, accompanied by a panoramic bus ride that will showcase the timeless landmarks of one of Western civilisation's oldest cities. Prepare to be awed by iconic sights such as the Arch of Constantine, the exterior of the magnificent Colosseum, the Imperial Forums, the Circus Maximus, and the awe-inspiring Baths of Caracalla. We will also visit the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, the unique Pyramid of Cestius, and the formidable Castel Sant'Angelo. Concluding our tour at approximately 11:00 AM in Vatican City, you will have the opportunity to join an optional visit to the Vatican Museums and the extraordinary Sistine Chapel. Later in the day, we will venture into the lively Trastevere neighbourhood, known for its inviting restaurants and vibrant atmosphere. You can spend the evening at your leisure before we return to the hotel around 8:30 PM.
Day 3 - Rome
On the third day of our itinerary in Rome, you have the freedom to explore the city at your own pace. For those interested in an additional experience, we offer an exciting optional excursion. Between April and October, you can venture to the picturesque island of Capri, renowned for its stunning landscapes and vibrant blue waters. Alternatively, from November to March, immerse yourself in history with a visit to Naples and the ancient ruins of Pompeii. Both options provide a rich cultural experience and a chance to explore beyond the city.
Day 4 - Rome - Orvieto - Castiglione del Lago - Siena
Today, we set off for a captivating exploration of the charming region of Umbria. Our adventure begins with a visit to Orvieto, a stunning medieval city perched atop a flat hilltop. Before entering the city, we pause to take in the splendid vistas from its viewpoint. We then ascend the escalators connecting the lower part of town to the medieval centre, where we'll be awed by the magnificent cathedral, a notable example of Italian Gothic architecture.Our journey continues to Castiglione del Lago, beautifully situated on the shores of Lake Trasimeno. Here, you’ll have some free time to wander and enjoy lunch at your leisure. Refreshed, we proceed to the famed city of Siena in Tuscany, celebrated for its remarkable Piazza del Campo and the stunning Duomo. We'll spend the remainder of the afternoon soaking up the ambiance and discovering the rich heritage of Siena.
Day 5 - Siena - Monteriggioni - San Gimignano - Florence
Today, we depart from Siena and set off towards Monteriggioni, a captivating medieval village renowned for its cobblestone streets and ancient fortifications. After a short visit, our journey continues to the enchanting town of San Gimignano, famed for its striking medieval towers. You'll have time to explore and savour lunch in this charming setting. In the early afternoon, we make our way to Florence, the vibrant capital of Tuscany. Once in Florence, consider visiting the world-famous Uffizi Gallery or the Accademia Gallery for a glimpse of renowned works of art (note that both are closed on Mondays). Our day concludes with a delightful traditional Tuscan meal.
Day 6 - Florence
After capturing a memorable photo from the Michelangelo viewpoint – renowned for offering one of the most stunning vistas of Florence – we will stroll to the historic city centre for a guided tour of Tuscany’s captivating capital, one of the most visited cities in Italy. Known as the cradle of the Renaissance, Florence has inspired countless influential artists and thinkers including Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Botticelli, and Raphael. We will admire the Gothic Cathedral (Duomo di Firenze), walk across the age-old stone bridge (Ponte Vecchio) with its array of goldsmith shops, and visit Piazza della Signoria, the political heart of the city, featuring the town hall housed in a medieval structure. You will have some free time after the tour to explore at your own pace. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes for your visit.
Day 7 - Florence - Pisa - Sestri Levante - Monte Carlo - Cote d'Azur
We set off from Florence bound for Pisa, where you'll have the opportunity to admire its renowned architectural ensemble, including the iconic Leaning Tower. As we continue our journey, we'll traverse the splendid Italian Riviera, regaling you with breathtaking coastal views. Our next destination is the delightful seaside town of Sestri Levante. Here, you'll find time to enjoy lunch and perhaps take a leisurely walk through this charming resort town. In the mid-afternoon, we'll cross into the French Riviera, making our next stop in the glamorous city of Monte Carlo. You'll have the chance to visit the historic casino, a hallmark of this prestigious city. Our day concludes as we continue to Nice, arriving around 8:00 p.m. Please be aware that during this part of the tour, the guide may not be fully fluent in English.
Day 8 - Cote d'Azur - Sainte-Maxime - Saint-Tropez - Marseille
Today, we'll delve into the captivating Côte d'Azur and the Mediterranean. Our day begins with breakfast, followed by a brief panoramic coach tour of Nice, the vibrant capital of the Côte d'Azur. As we drive along the renowned Promenade des Anglais, you'll be treated to stunning coastal views. We’ll pass through the lively Massena Square and admire the city's charming old port. Our journey then takes us to Sainte-Maxime, an enchanting coastal town where we'll meander through its historic centre and picturesque port, home to the 16th-century "Square Tower."From Sainte-Maxime, we'll enjoy a scenic boat ride across the bay to reach Saint-Tropez, once a humble fishing port and now a haven for some of the world's most luxurious yachts. Here, you'll have time to explore and enjoy a leisurely lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll continue our journey to Marseille, the second-largest city in France. Our exploration will take us to the bustling "Vieux Port" (Old Port), rounding off an exciting day along the French Riviera.
Day 9 - Marseille - Aix-en-Provence - Avignon - Pont du Gard - Barcelona
Today, we delve into the captivating region of Provence. Our first destination is Aix-en-Provence, famously the birthplace of painter Paul Cézanne. You'll have time to explore its delightful historic centre, characterised by charming narrow streets, quaint fountains, and attractive squares. Our journey continues to Avignon, where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll and lunch in this walled city nestled by the Rhône. Once the seat of the Catholic popes, Avignon was once known as the 'second Rome' until it became part of France in 1791. The formidable Palace of the Popes is a reminder of its rich history. Afterwards, we venture to the Pont du Gard, where admission is included to witness this magnificent Roman aqueduct. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it stands as one of the most famous and best-preserved Roman monuments. Our tour concludes as we continue towards Catalonia, aiming to reach Barcelona by evening.
Day 10 - Barcelona
In the morning, we'll embark on a panoramic tour of Barcelona, a city celebrated as one of Europe's most captivating capitals. Situated along the Mediterranean, Barcelona is renowned for its vibrant atmosphere, Gaudí's modernist masterpieces, and its rich historical tapestry, including notable events like the Universal Exposition and the Olympics. After the tour, you will have the afternoon free to explore this lively city at your own pace. In the evening, we'll offer a transfer to Maremagnum, a modern leisure and dining complex located by the sea near Plaza de Colón. Here, you can enjoy a pleasant walk around the bustling area and choose from a variety of inviting dining options, allowing you to savour the local culinary delights.
Day 11 - Barcelona - Peniscola - Valencia - Madrid
Today, we'll journey south along the stunning Mediterranean coast, pausing at the picturesque town of Peñíscola. This charming walled town offers delightful coastal views and is perfect for a leisurely walk around its scenic landscapes. We’ll then head towards Valencia, a bustling port city on Spain's Levantine coast, where we plan to arrive around lunchtime. As you explore this vibrant city, why not consider sampling the celebrated local dish, paella? By about 4:30 p.m., we’ll resume our travels, making a brief stop at the cutting-edge City of Arts and Sciences complex in Valencia, a marvel of modern architecture. We expect to reach Madrid between 8:30 and 9:00 p.m., where we’ll welcome you with a transfer to the bustling Plaza Mayor. This lively square is an ideal place to unwind, perhaps over some pinchos or wine in one of its many eateries. Please note, the leg from Valencia to Madrid might be via high-speed train, depending on the number of passengers.
Day 12 - Madrid
Your day in Madrid starts with a thorough exploration of the city’s heart, where you will see the iconic Paseo del Prado, Cibeles, Neptuno, Puerta de Alcalá, Plaza de Colón, and Plaza Mayor. You'll then relax in Retiro Park, a serene escape amidst the city buzz, with its picturesque lake and the striking Palacio de Cristal. Our itinerary includes entrance to the legendary Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, the celebrated home of Real Madrid – often hailed as the world's best football club. The afternoon is left for you to explore at your own pace, whether it be revisiting favourite sights or discovering new ones. In the evening, we'll arrange transport back to your hotel, allowing you to reflect on a day filled with cultural and sporting highlights.
