Day 1 - Palermo - Cefalù - Castelbuono - Tindari - Milazzo
We depart Palermo and follow the Tyrrhenian coast before turning inland to Castelbuono, a picturesque mountain town with ancient walls, a castle and charming central streets. We then continue to Cefalù, a seaside town whose Norman cathedral – celebrated for its mosaics – is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its historic centre mixes narrow lanes, sea views and a lively local scene. You’ll have time for lunch at your own pace.In the afternoon we continue along the coast to Tindari. The Sanctuary of Tindari sits atop a mountain with panoramic sea views and is a longstanding pilgrimage site known for the Black Madonna; nearby are the remains of an ancient Greek polis. We end the day in Milazzo, a lively port overlooking the Aeolian Islands.

Day 2 - Milazzo - Vulcano - Lipari - Taormina
From Milazzo, we board the hydrofoil to Vulcano in the Aeolian archipelago – a UNESCO World Heritage site recognised for its ongoing volcanic activity. On arrival, the smell of sulphur from active fumaroles sets the scene. The island is dominated by its crater and known for its hot-water beaches – you can choose to bathe in the sulphurous springs and mud, a local tradition said to benefit the skin. We then take a 15 minute hydrofoil to Lipari, the largest of the islands, with its historic centre, castle and lively atmosphere. You’ll have time for lunch and a relaxed stroll before we return by boat to Milazzo and continue to Taormina, arriving by the end of the day. Dinner is included. Note: In summer or on certain dates, accommodation may be in Messina instead of Taormina.
Day 3 - Taormina - Giardini Naxos - Villa Romana del Casale - Palermo
We start early and travel to Giardini Naxos – the first Greek settlement in Sicily, founded in 734 BC – known for its seafront promenade and beaches. We then continue to Taormina’s historic centre, where you have time to explore at your own pace; you may wish to visit the Greek Theatre for its impressive views. After lunch, we head to Villa Romana del Casale – admission and guided tour included – a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the fourth century architectural layout is preserved and mosaics covering almost every room are considered among the finest of the Roman world. We then cross the mountainous heart of the island and continue to Palermo, arriving by the end of the day. Dinner is included.
