Day 1 - Tokyo
Welcome to Japan! After you've gone through customs, a shared shuttle bus will transfer you to your hotel in Tokyo. The remainder of the day is yours to explore or relax at your leisure. In the afternoon, you'll receive all the details regarding the commencement of your tour. Enjoy the start of your adventure. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Tokyo
On the morning of your second day in Tokyo, we will embark on a captivating five-hour guided tour of this dynamic city, where futuristic districts mingle effortlessly with peaceful retreats. Our exploration begins at the historic Zojoji Temple, where you can capture the quintessential view of the iconic Tokyo Tower framed by the temple's beautifully adorned Jizo statues, revered as guardians of children. Next, we head to the legendary Shibuya Crossing, famed for being the world's busiest intersection, followed by a visit to the tranquil Meiji Shrine, dedicated to Emperor Meiji and his consort. Our journey continues along the stylish Omotesando Avenue, from where we will take in views of the Imperial Palace and its impeccably landscaped gardens, pausing to admire the impressive Nijubashi Bridge. As we pass through the lively Akihabara district, known as "Electric Town," you will catch a glimpse of Tokyo's vibrant manga and anime culture. We will also pass by the renowned Kokugikan, Japan's premier sumo wrestling venue.The tour concludes in Asakusa, where we will explore the venerable Sensoji Temple and the bustling Nakamise Street, before enjoying lunch at a local restaurant. Later, we’ll return to our hotel, offering you a moment of respite.In the evening, we'll meet our guide in the hotel lobby at 6:30 p.m. and venture by metro (tickets included) to the lively Shinjuku district. Here, amidst the energetic atmosphere renowned for its nightlife, we will take a leisurely stroll through its vibrant streets, en route to a local restaurant where dinner is included. After our meal, we'll return to the hotel, again travelling by metro, with our guide accompanying us.
Day 3 - Tokyo - Mount Fuji - Kawaguchiko
On the third day, our adventure takes us to the breathtaking region surrounding Mount Fuji. As we travel across stunning landscapes, we'll first arrive at Arakurayama Sengen Park. This location is famed for its lovely pagodas and offers the quintessential view of Mount Fuji, providing a perfect photo opportunity. We then move on to Kawaguchiko, a picturesque town nestled amidst mountains and vibrant flora, centred around the serene Lake Kawaguchi. Here, we will explore the Fuji Sengen Shrine, a peaceful sanctuary amid towering trees, marking the historical starting point for ascents up Mount Fuji.Our visit continues with a delightful boat ride on Lake Kawaguchiko, offering a chance to appreciate the calm beauty of the surroundings. Afterwards, we will head up Mount Fuji via a scenic roadway, reaching the Fifth Station, located at 2,305 metres. From this vantage point, we are surrounded by sweeping forested views—though during winter, do be aware that access may be limited by snow or adverse weather, and we'll proceed as far as conditions allow. Upon returning to Kawaguchiko, you’ll have some free time for a leisurely stroll along the lake's edge.Tonight, we'll unwind at a ryokan, a traditional Japanese inn, where relaxation awaits in the onsen – a public bath. Dinner is included and offers a taste of authentic Japanese hospitality. Please note, at the ryokan, some rooms come equipped with traditional Japanese-style tatami mats, while others feature Western-style interiors. Occasionally, our accommodation may be provided at a Western-style hotel.
Day 4 - Kawaguchiko - Iyashi No Sato Nenba - Toyota - Kyoto
This morning, we will set off on a scenic drive around tranquil lakes to reach Iyashi no Sato Nenba. This charming village, once ravaged by a typhoon in 1966, has been beautifully restored as an open-air museum. Wander through traditional houses now transformed into delightful arts and crafts shops, inviting restaurants, and fascinating cultural exhibits, offering a nostalgic glimpse into Japan's past.Our next stop is the awe-inspiring Shiraito Falls, famed for its stunning cascade, descending a striking 20 metres amidst lush greenery. Here, you can marvel at one of Japan's most picturesque natural features.From Shiraito Falls, we will journey onwards to Nagoya, where we will visit the renowned Toyota Museum – entry is covered – a must-visit for anyone fascinated by automotive history and advancements. Our day concludes in Kyoto, where we will settle in for an overnight stay.
Day 5 - Kyoto
Today, we'll dedicate ourselves to discovering Kyoto, a city rich in history and culture, having served as Japan's capital from 794 to 1868. It holds a special significance as the only major city in Japan that escaped bombing during World War II, preserving its exquisite artistic heritage. Here, we begin our exploration in Arashiyama, marvelling at the Togetsukyo Bridge, often referred to as the 'Bridge over the Moon', which presents a stunning view of the surrounding landscape.Next, we'll visit the Tenryuji Temple, one of Kyoto’s revered ‘five great Zen temples’ and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Strolling through its peaceful bamboo grove, we continue to the notable Fushimi Inari Shrine, renowned for its thousands of vermillion torii gates. The journey includes a visit to the Imperial Palace and Kinkakuji Temple, also known as the ‘Golden Pavilion’, celebrated for its beautiful gardens. While the sequence of these visits might vary, each offers a glimpse into Kyoto's rich past.Following the guided tour, the remainder of the afternoon is yours to explore the enchanting district of Gion at your leisure. Known for its traditional wooden machiya houses and as a vibrant cultural hub, Gion is famed for its living culture of geishas. Enjoy soaking in the atmosphere, which evokes a bygone era, and perhaps spot a geisha or maiko as you wander through its picturesque streets.
Day 6 - Kyoto - Nara - Osaka
We're off to Nara today, a city brimming with rich history and charm. Our first stop is the remarkable Todaiji Temple, a masterpiece of Buddhist architecture established in 752. It's home to a monumental Buddha statue that commands awe and reverence. As you explore the temple and its grounds, take the opportunity to photograph and interact with the friendly deer that wander the park; they add a delightful touch of nature to the serene environment. After enjoying an included lunch, we’ll proceed to the Horyu-ji Temple, another highlight of our journey. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is renowned for its historical and architectural significance, featuring a seminary, monasteries, and one of the world's oldest surviving wooden structures – the central pagoda. As the oldest Buddhist temple in Japan, it continues to serve as a pivotal site of spiritual worship.By evening, we’ll make our way to Osaka, Japan’s bustling second-largest urban centre. Our accommodation is here, in this vibrant city known for its dazzling lights and energetic atmosphere. Later on, we’ll venture into the lively Dotonbori district, famed for its nightlife, where you can absorb the vibrant city vibes.
Day 7 - Osaka - Himeji - Korakuen Garden - Okayama
We will depart from Osaka to explore the remarkable city of Himeji, where we will visit the extraordinary medieval complex of Himeji Castle, a distinguished example of Japanese castle architecture. Admission is included. Following our castle exploration, we will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant (included) before heading to Okayama. Here, we can marvel at Korakuen, one of Japan’s most exquisite gardens, famed for its serene lakes, elegant waterfalls, and traditional teahouses. By crossing a pedestrian bridge, you can view Okayama Castle, an impressive sixteenth-century fortress rebuilt in 1966 after its destruction during World War II. While the interior of the castle is not included in the visit, you will have time to discover the city of Okayama independently. Known as a vibrant provincial capital, it is home to over 700,000 residents. Please note that on select dates, our overnight accommodation may be in Fukuyama or Kurashiki, with an opportunity to visit Kurashiki in the afternoon.
Day 8 - Okayama - Kurashiki - Itsukushima - Hiroshima
Today, we'll begin with a visit to Kurashiki, a city celebrated for its well-preserved historic district. You'll have the opportunity to leisurely wander through its quaint streets, soaking up the ambience of a bygone era. Our journey then continues to Hiroshima, a city indelibly marked by the atomic bombing of 1945. Here, we'll explore the Peace Memorial Park, view the Atomic Bomb Dome, and visit the poignant Peace Memorial Museum, which serves as a powerful tribute to the city’s history and resilience. To balance the day's reflections, we will take a ferry to an island known for its harmonious existence of men and gods. On this island, we'll explore the renowned Itsukushima Shrine, dedicated to the guardian of the seas, which is partially constructed over the water. You'll have time to wander through the charming town centre and enjoy lunch at your own pace. We'll conclude the day by returning to our hotel in Hiroshima, where dinner will be provided. Please note, in Hiroshima, the order of visits might be adjusted, but rest assured, our itinerary remains comprehensive.
Day 9 - Hiroshima
Following breakfast, our journey concludes. As you make your way onward, you'll carry with you wonderful memories of this remarkable adventure. Safe travels!
