Day 1 - Seoul
Welcome to Korea! Upon your arrival in Seoul, you'll be warmly greeted and transferred to your hotel. Once you've settled in, the rest of the day is yours to explore at leisure. You might choose to wander the nearby streets, savour some delicious Korean cuisine, or simply relax and acclimatise to this vibrant city. Later in the afternoon, we'll provide you with all the essential information regarding the start of your tour, ensuring you're well-prepared for the exciting adventures that lie ahead. Enjoy your first evening in Seoul! Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Seoul - Busan
On the second day of our journey, we will immerse ourselves in the vibrant culture of Seoul with an enriching five-hour city tour. Our itinerary begins at Changdeokgung Palace, a magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site nestled in a sprawling park and home to historical royal residences. Next, we'll meander through the quaint streets of Bukchon Hanok Village, ideal for appreciating its traditional Korean architecture.Our adventure continues with a visit to the War Memorial of Korea, an impressive museum dedicated to the country's tumultuous past, particularly the Korean War, in which international soldiers fought alongside the United Nations. After satisfying our curiosity, we will pause for lunch at a local restaurant, included as part of our day's experience.We'll then head to the lively Gangnam District, renowned for its eclectic mix of shopping and entertainment options. Our afternoon will wind down with a visit to the awe-inspiring Lotte World Tower. Standing at an impressive 550 metres, you will have some free time to decide whether to take in the breathtaking views from the tower itself (admission not included) or explore the nearby parks and luxurious shopping centres.As evening approaches, we'll whisk you away to the station to board a comfortable high-speed train to Busan (ticket included). Upon arrival, we will transfer you to the hotel for a restful overnight stay, ready for the adventures that await the following day.
Day 3 - Busan
After breakfast, we set off from Busan to explore the stunning Haedong Yonggung Temple, a 14th-century Buddhist sanctuary uniquely positioned by the sea, offering both historical insight and scenic beauty. Returning to Busan, we'll visit the UN Memorial Cemetery, which honours the international soldiers who served during the Korean War. Our next stop is Korea's largest fish market, situated at Nampo Port, where you'll experience the bustling atmosphere and enjoy a locally included lunch. The day continues with a leisurely walk to Yongdusan Park, famed for its 120-metre tall pagoda, providing a perfect city view.Our afternoon takes us to the picturesque Songdo Beach. Here, you're invited to ascend Korea’s first marine cable car (weather permitting and included in the tour), to admire breathtaking views over the bay. The exploration of Busan concludes at the vibrant Gamcheon Culture Village, celebrated for its brightly painted buildings, maze-like alleys, art galleries, pottery workshops, and delightful cafes. We will then return to Busan for an overnight stay, rounding off a day rich with cultural and historical experiences.
Day 4 - Busan - Seokguram - Bulguksa - Gyeongju - Daegu
Today, we journey from Busan to explore the historical treasures surrounding Gyeongju. Our first stop is the Seokguram Grotto, an exquisite 8th-century Buddhist site nestled on the slopes of Mount Tohamsan. Continuing on, we'll visit the Bulguksa Temple, renowned as one of Korea's most beautiful temples with its intricate architecture and cultural significance. Next, we'll head to Gyeongju, an ancient city recognised for having the longest reign in Korea's history, with 56 kings over nearly a millennium. Here, you’ll have the chance to photograph the captivating Woljeonggyo Bridge, a wooden structure spanning the Namcheon River. Lunch is included in the day's itinerary.Our afternoon will be spent at Tumuli Park, where we’ll explore the ancient burial mounds of Silla Kingdom royalty, stretching back over 1,500 years. A short walk will take us to the Cheomsongdae Observatory, the oldest astronomical observatory in East Asia and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.We end our day in Daegu, Korea’s fourth largest city. Before checking into the hotel, we'll visit Dongsan Cheongna Hill, a historic area once home to Christian missionaries, and Dongseong-ro, a bustling commercial street teeming with modern shops, cafes, and restaurants. We'll stay overnight in Daegu.
Day 5 - Daegu - Andong - Hahoe - Seoul
Today, we start our exploration in Daegu with a visit to the Yangnyeongsi Museum of Oriental Medicine, which is celebrated for its long tradition in herbal remedies. Afterwards, we’ll leisurely explore the nearby Herbal Medicine Market, known for its wide range of high-quality products, including the esteemed Korean ginseng.We then travel north to Andong, where we visit the outskirts of the timeless Hahoe Village. This UNESCO World Heritage Site offers you a chance to wander through its streets and soak in its rural charm. Our journey continues with a visit to the Hahoe Mask Museum, which displays an array of masks used in various cultural practices around the globe.Lunch will be provided at a local eatery. Post-lunch, we’ll visit the Byeongsan Seowon Confucian Academy, founded in the 16th century. Nestled along the river, its tranquil setting provides a peaceful backdrop for reflection.As we proceed towards Seoul, weather permitting, we may stop by the Banpo Bridge over the Han River. This site is famed for its illuminated fountain that creates a colourful display of water and lights. We end our day with an overnight stay in Seoul. Please note that the visit to Banpo Bridge is contingent on weather conditions.
Day 6 - Seoul
Today, we head out early towards the Cheorwon region, renowned for its pivotal section of the DMZ—the Demilitarized Zone that separates the two Koreas. Our exploration begins with the Second Tunnel, a clandestine passage excavated by North Korea, discovered in 1975. Next, we proceed to the Cheorwon Peace Observatory. Here, we can enjoy sweeping views of the DMZ and catch sight of the first villages beyond in North Korea. Inside the observatory, a small museum provides insights into the Korean War. Continuing our journey, we visit the deserted Woljeong-ri railway station and the Baek Ma Battle Memorial, which commemorates the French UN battalion's contribution during the battles. A lunch break is included.Our final stop includes a visit to a local producer of Makgeolli, a traditional Korean rice liquor, offering a glimpse into the country's culinary traditions. Upon returning to Seoul in the evening, we head to City Hall to admire its unique tsunami-inspired architecture. From there, we can enjoy the beautifully illuminated Deoksugung Palace, highlighting the harmonious blend of tradition and modernity that defines Korea. We conclude our exploration in the vibrant Myeongdong district, South Korea's largest hub for shopping and entertainment. The name Myeongdong translates to "bright town," and it truly lives up to its name with an array of stalls and shops to explore. Dinner will be served at a local restaurant. Returning to the hotel, we take advantage of the efficient metro system, with tickets included. Overnight accommodation awaits in Seoul. **Note:** Remember to carry your passport today, as it is required for entry into the DMZ. The DMZ is a military zone and may close unexpectedly; should this occur, alternative arrangements will be made.
Day 7 - Seoul - Beijing
Our journey begins with a transfer to the airport for a flight to Beijing, included in your itinerary. Arriving in China, you'll be whisked away to your hotel. Later, in the afternoon, we will start exploring this vibrant city with a visit to Wangfujing Street. This bustling pedestrian area brims with shops and restaurants, offering an exciting first taste of Beijing's dynamic atmosphere. Dinner is included before we head back to the hotel for the night.
Day 8 - Beijing
Today in Beijing, we'll delve into the vibrant heart of China's capital, exploring some of the city's most iconic landmarks. Our adventure begins with a visit to the Forbidden City, the magnificent palace complex that served as the imperial seat for 24 emperors over nearly five centuries. This unparalleled example of Chinese architecture offers a glimpse into the grandeur of ancient Chinese dynasties. Next, we'll head to Jingshan Park, where you can climb Coal Hill to enjoy sweeping views of the Forbidden City, weather permitting.Our journey continues with a stroll through Tiananmen Square, one of the largest public spaces in the world, from where you can admire the impressive Great National Theatre, also called the Beijing Opera House. We'll then enjoy an included lunch before proceeding to the Summer Palace. This breathtaking site, once the imperial retreat for the Qing Dynasty, is famed for its beautiful gardens and tranquil lakes.In the afternoon, dive into traditional Beijing life with a tricycle ride through the historic Hutong neighbourhoods. Here, we'll soak up the city's rich cultural heritage, discovering traditional shops and visiting a Siheyuan, a quintessential courtyard house representative of Beijing's architectural splendour.Our day concludes with a return to the hotel for an overnight stay. Please note that due to heritage protection measures and visitor safety regulations, access to the Forbidden City may be limited. If it's unavailable, we'll explore the Confucius Temple and the Lama Temple, both significant sites in Chinese history and culture.
Day 9 - Beijing - Shanghai
Our adventure continues with an unforgettable excursion to the Great Wall's Mutianyu section, an extraordinary structure with a history dating back over 2,000 years. We will ascend and descend the Wall via cable car, allowing us to fully appreciate this ancient architectural wonder – the tickets are included. After exploring the Wall, we'll enjoy a farewell lunch in Beijing, indulging in the renowned Peking duck, a classic local delicacy.As our time in Beijing concludes, we will head to the train station to board a high-speed train bound for the vibrant city of Shanghai. Upon arrival, we’ll transfer to your hotel where you'll check in and spend the night, ready to explore more of what China has to offer.
Day 10 - Shanghai
Today, we’ll explore the vibrant metropolis of Shanghai, a city that seamlessly blends modernity with tradition. Our journey begins in Pudong, the city’s bustling financial district, renowned for its striking skyline and impressive skyscrapers, including the iconic Pearl Tower. The day continues with a leisurely ferry ride across the Shanghai River, offering us captivating views of the city's juxtaposed architecture, both historical and contemporary.As we venture into the Old City, we will visit the tranquil Yuyuan Garden, a masterpiece of classical Chinese landscaping from the Ming Dynasty. While there, we'll partake in a traditional tea ceremony, providing a glimpse into China's rich cultural heritage.Our exploration continues in Xintiandi, a trendy area celebrated for its chic boutiques and charming cafés. Lunch is included today, ensuring you sample some of the local delicacies. In the afternoon, we’ll meander through the alleys of Tianzifang, a former residential area that has evolved into a vibrant hub of craft shops and art galleries.Concluding the day, we will stroll along The Bund, where you can admire the grand colonial-era buildings, a testament to the city's days as a trade centre. You have the remainder of the afternoon at your leisure. If you wish, you may embark on an optional evening boat tour to witness Shanghai’s dazzling nightscape from the water—a truly unforgettable experience.
Day 11 - Shanghai - Luoyang
Our day begins with an early morning transfer to the train station, where we board a high-speed train departing at 07:17 a.m. This spectacular journey of over five hours covers approximately 1,000 kilometres, offering scenic views of serene countryside landscapes en route to Luoyang. Once we arrive, you can enjoy a delicious lunch.We will then explore the breathtaking Longmen Buddhist Caves. This magnificent archaeological site stretches over a kilometre along the river's rocky cliffs, featuring an impressive collection of more than 100,000 Buddha statues and carvings. To fully appreciate this site, we will also indulge in a leisurely boat ride along the river, providing a unique perspective of the intricate sculptures adorning the cliffs.Following our visit to the caves, we will head into the historic city of Luoyang. You will have the chance to take in the city's grand stone walls and explore its lively streets, illuminated in the evening glow and bustling with traditional shops and local activity. It's a perfect opportunity to soak up the cultural charm and vibrant atmosphere offered by this ancient city.
Day 12 - Luoyang - Longmen - Sanmexia - Xian
In the early morning, we will venture to the outskirts of Luoyang to visit the revered White Horse Buddhist Monastery, an expansive and historic hub of Buddhist scholarship that attracts learners and practitioners from around the globe. Our journey continues to Sanmenxia, a city rich with historical significance. Here, we shall admire the impressive Yellow River and explore Baolun Temple, distinguished by its striking tall pagoda. Our exploration includes the esteemed Guo Museum, one of China's finest, where the ancient funeral carriages of the former State of Guo provide a fascinating glimpse into the past. A delightful lunch will be part of our itinerary. As our day progresses, we travel eastward, passing the sacred Mount Hua – known for its dramatic landscapes and spiritual significance. By late afternoon, we reach Xian, where our day's adventures draw to a close.
Day 13 - Xian
On our arrival in Xi'an – the historic starting point of the ancient Silk Road – we'll begin the day with a visit to the awe-inspiring Terracotta Army. This remarkable archaeological site houses an incredible collection of life-sized clay soldiers, carefully crafted to guard the tomb of China's first emperor for centuries. Following this, we will return to the heart of Xi'an to explore the enduring beauty of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, a stunning Buddhist structure that has stood the test of time for over a millennium. Our exploration continues within the city's historic walled centre, where we will wander through the bustling Muslim Quarter. Here, we'll visit the Great Mosque, a testament to the rich tapestry of cultures and religions that have interwoven over China's long history. The journey includes entry to the Drum Tower, where we're treated to a captivating performance of traditional Chinese music, played on ancient instruments. Afterwards, you're free to immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of Xi'an at your own pace, perhaps exploring local markets or trying the city's renowned culinary delights.
Day 14 - Xian - Chengdu
After a swift journey on a modern high-speed train, we reach Chengdu from Xian, covering the 700 kilometres in just over three hours. Upon arrival, we'll visit the Panda Research and Breeding Centre, a haven for 120 giant pandas and 76 red pandas. As part of our exploration, a delicious lunch will be provided. In the afternoon, we'll enjoy a leisurely stroll through the scenic People's Park. This tranquil spot is characterised by its quaint lake, locals practising Tai Chi, and traditional tea houses where you can pause and soak up the delightful atmosphere.
Day 15 - Chengdu
We embark on an all-day adventure through Sichuan Province, renowned for its scenic landscapes and traditional charm. Our first destination is Dujiangyan, where we marvel at the ancient irrigation system, a masterpiece of engineering operating for over 2,000 years and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Following this, we journey to Qingcheng Shan, the "Mountain of the Green City," revered in Taoism. Meandering along forest pathways, we'll encounter fascinating caves, pavilions, and ancient wooden temples, each echoing the past. A delightful lunch will be served, providing a taste of local flavours. Our exploration continues to the historic city of Jiezi, where timeworn alleyways whisper stories from over a thousand years ago. As the day draws to a close, we return to Chengdu, enriched by the cultural and natural beauty we've experienced.
Day 16 - Chengdu
