Day 1 - Seoul
Upon your arrival in Korea, you'll be greeted with a transfer to your hotel, allowing you to settle in comfortably. Take some time to explore at your leisure or simply relax after your journey. In the afternoon, we'll provide you with essential details regarding the start of your tour. This is the perfect moment to acclimatise and prepare for the adventures ahead in this vibrant and historically rich country. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Seoul
We set off early for the Cheorwon region, home to a significant part of the DMZ, the Demilitarized Zone that separates North and South Korea. This area is steeped in modern history. We'll explore the Second Tunnel, an ambitious underground passage built by the North Korean army, only discovered in 1975. Next, we head to the Cheorwon Peace Observatory. From here, you can enjoy sweeping views of the DMZ and catch a glimpse of the first North Korean villages. The observatory also houses a small museum focusing on the Korean War.Our journey continues to the deserted Woljeong-ri railway station, a poignant symbol of division. We will also visit the Baek Ma Battle Memorial, commemorating the contribution of a French UN battalion. A local lunch is included before we visit a traditional producer of Makgeolli, Korea's famous rice liquor. We'll return to Seoul by evening.Please be aware that your passport is required today, as the DMZ is a sensitive military area prone to sudden closures; if necessary, an alternate itinerary will be provided.Back in Seoul, our guide will lead us to City Hall, notable for its striking tsunami-like architectural design. Opposite stands Deoksugung Palace, atmospherically illuminated at night, allowing you to appreciate Korea's blend of tradition and modernity. We will then stroll to the bustling Myeongdong district, South Korea's vibrant hub for shopping and entertainment, whose name fittingly translates to "bright town." Tonight's dinner is included at a local restaurant, after which we'll experience the city's efficient metro system to return to our hotel. Overnight accommodation in Seoul.
Day 3 - Seoul
Today, we embark on an enthralling five-hour exploration of Seoul. Our first stop is the magnificent Changdeokgung Palace, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nestled within expansive parkland, this architectural marvel serves as a true testament to Korea's illustrious history. We then proceed to Bukchon Hanok Village, a charming area brimming with traditional Korean homes that harken back to a bygone era.Our journey continues at the War Memorial of Korea, a profound museum offering a detailed overview of various historical conflicts, most notably the Korean War. This segment of the tour provides a meaningful insight into the struggles that have shaped Korea's past. After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, we venture into the bustling Gangnam District, famed for its vibrant shopping centres and entertainment venues.To conclude the day, we'll arrive at the impressive Lotte World Tower, a towering skyscraper reaching 550 metres into the sky. Here, you will have the opportunity to ascend the tower (tickets not included) for panoramic views, or alternatively, explore the surrounding park and high-end shopping malls. We will reconvene later to return to the hotel, where you will have the rest of the day at your leisure.
Day 4 - Seoul - Suwon - Jeonju
On the fourth day of our journey, we will immerse ourselves in the rich history and culture of Korea. We begin with a visit to the iconic Gyeongbokgung Palace, which boasts a history spanning over six centuries. Here, you'll have the opportunity to witness the ceremonial changing of the guard, a unique tradition that takes place at specific times. After exploring the palace, we will depart from Seoul and travel south to Suwon, the historic former capital of Korea. Known for its formidable UNESCO World Heritage-listed walls, Suwon offers a glimpse into the country's past. While in Suwon, we will explore these impressive fortifications and visit the Hwaseong Haenggung, the summer palace.Lunch will be a delightful experience at a local restaurant before we continue our journey to Jeonju. In Jeonju, you will be captivated by its charming historic centre, Hanok Village, showcasing traditional houses, quaint shops, and art galleries. The atmosphere here is a vibrant blend of heritage and creativity, offering an unforgettable experience.
Day 5 - Jeonju - Damyang - Haeinsa - Busan
We begin our day by heading to Sunchang Gochujang Village, nestled at the foot of Mount Amisan. This charming village is renowned for its traditional hanok houses, surrounded by courtyards filled with hang-a-ri—large clay pots used for fermentation. Here, master artisans make gochujang, a famous Korean chilli paste, using age-old methods. You’ll have the opportunity to partake in a hands-on session, learning the intricacies of crafting this staple sauce. Continuing our journey, we make our way to Damyang to explore the Juknokwon Bamboo Forest, celebrated for its picturesque walking paths, ideal for meditation and enjoying the crisp air. The area is also known for artisan bamboo products, showcased at places like the Bamboo Museum. We’ll pause for lunch, savouring a unique local dish—rice cooked and served in bamboo.Surrounded by breathtaking mountain views, we proceed to Haeinsa Temple, one of Korea's most significant Buddhist sanctuaries and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Established in 802, Haeinsa is home to the Tripitaka Koreana, an invaluable collection of 80,000 wooden tablets inscribed with Buddhist scriptures.Our day concludes as we arrive in Busan, Korea's vibrant second-largest city, where we'll stay overnight.
Day 6 - Busan
We begin our day in Busan by setting out to explore Haedong Yonggung, a stunning 14th-century Buddhist temple perched along the coastline. Following this, we return to the city to visit the UN Memorial Cemetery, a poignant site dedicated to those from diverse nations who served during the Korean War. Our next stop takes us to the largest fish market in Korea, situated at Nampo Port, where you can experience the bustling local seafood trade firsthand. After an included lunch, we'll leisurely walk to Yongdusan Park, which features a commanding 120-metre pagoda providing a panoramic view of Busan.In the afternoon, we head to Songdo Beach, where you'll have the opportunity to ride Korea's first-ever marine cable car, affording spectacular views of the bay if the weather allows. Our journey continues to the Gamcheon Culture Village, famous for its vibrant, multi-coloured buildings, winding lanes, and captivating art installations. You'll have time to explore its art galleries, pottery workshops, and quaint cafes. Following this enriching day, we'll return to Busan for an overnight stay.
Day 7 - Busan - Seokguram - Bulguksa - Gyeongju - Daegu
Today, we embark on a journey to the Seokguram Grotto, a remarkable Buddhist site dating back to the 8th century, tucked away on the tranquil slopes of Tohamsan. Following this, we'll visit the Bulguksa Temple, celebrated as one of South Korea's most exquisite temples. Our adventure continues in Gyeongju, historically the nation's longest-serving capital, where you'll have the opportunity to capture the beautiful Woljeonggyo Bridge on camera, a picturesque wooden structure spanning the Namcheon River. This morning's explorations will be punctuated by an included lunch. In the afternoon, we'll explore Tumuli Park, home to the ancient burial mounds of Silla Kingdom kings, over 1,500 years old, and allow you to step inside one of these historic tombs. From here, we'll take a leisurely walk to the Cheomsongdae Astronomical Observatory, the oldest of its kind in East Asia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our day concludes with a visit to Daegu, Korea's fourth-largest city, where we will explore Dongsan Cheongna Hill, once the residence of Christian missionaries, and then enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of Dongseong-ro, the bustling commercial street filled with trendy shops, cafes, and restaurants. We'll spend the night here, taking in the local culture and charm.
Day 8 - Daegu - Andong - Hahoe - Seoul
Today, we embark on an exploration of Daegu, starting with a visit to the Yangnyeongsi Museum of Oriental Medicine. This museum is celebrated for its rich history in medicinal herbs, and we will then amble through the Herbal Medicine Market, renowned for its selection of high-quality herbal shops, particularly known for ginseng. Following this, we journey north to Andong to explore the outskirts of the traditional Hahoe Village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to meander through the village, which appears almost untouched by time. We will also visit the Hahoe Mask Museum, which exhibits a fascinating collection of masks used in dances, medical practices, religious ceremonies, and theatrical performances from around the world. For lunch, you will savour a meal at a local eatery. Our next visit is to the Byeongsan Seowon Confucian Academy, founded in the 16th century, idyllically set along a river. As evening descends, we return to Seoul. Weather permitting, we will stop at the Banpo Bridge over the Han River to witness its spectacular fountain display, which creates a vivid play of water and lights. Tonight's accommodation will be in Seoul. Note: Our visit to Banpo Bridge is dependent on the prevailing weather conditions.
Day 9 - Seoul - Tokyo
Following breakfast, we'll ensure your transfer to the airport, where you'll catch your included flight to Tokyo. Upon arrival in Japan, and once you've completed border procedures, an assistant will greet you – generally Spanish-speaking, though sometimes English-speaking. From there, you'll be escorted to your hotel via a shared shuttle bus. Once settled, you'll have some free time to explore Tokyo at your leisure.
Day 10 - Tokyo
We will embark on an exciting five-hour guided tour of Tokyo, a city where vibrant modernity and serene tradition coexist beautifully. Our first stop is Zojoji Temple, where you can capture breathtaking views of Tokyo Tower framed by the temple's historic grounds. The area is decorated with Jizo statues, believed to be protectors of children, adorned with colourful knit caps and bibs.Next, we will visit the iconic Shibuya Crossing, reputed to be the busiest intersection in the world, and then head to Meiji Shrine, a tranquil haven in the heart of the bustling city dedicated to Emperor Meiji and his wife. Our journey continues with a drive along the stylish Omotesando Avenue. We will also take in some of the most picturesque parts of the Imperial Palace and marvel at the elegant Nijubashi Bridge.As we travel, we will pass through Akihabara, renowned as the "Electric Town" and famed for its manga and anime culture. We’ll also glimpse Kokugikan, the esteemed sumo wrestling arena. Our tour concludes in Asakusa, where we will explore the historic Sensoji Temple and the bustling Nakamise Street. Lunch will be enjoyed at a local restaurant before we return to the hotel.At 6:30 p.m., we will reconvene with our guide in the hotel lobby and venture via metro (tickets are included) to the lively Shinjuku district. Here, you will wander its vibrant streets, renowned for their dynamic nightlife, before dining at a local restaurant (dinner included). After immersing yourself in the lively atmosphere, we will return to the hotel by metro, guided by our expert.
Day 11 - Tokyo - Kyoto
We will embark on an early morning journey aboard a bullet train, whisking us from Tokyo to the captivating city of Kyoto in just over two hours, covering nearly 500 kilometres. A day of cultural exploration awaits as we delve into Kyoto, the former imperial capital of Japan from 794 to 1868. Notably spared from the bombings of World War II, Kyoto retains a wealth of artistic and historical treasures. The city is steeped in significance, having been the site of the signing of the Kyoto Protocol in 1997, a pivotal international agreement to address climate change.Our itinerary includes visits to some of Kyoto’s most iconic sites. We will admire the striking Fushimi Inari Shrine, continue to the Imperial Palace, and pause at the serene Kinkakuji, or 'Golden Pavilion', set amidst picturesque gardens. Later, you'll have time to wander through Gion, Kyoto's traditional district known for its geisha culture and vibrant atmosphere. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure.
Day 12 - Kyoto - Nara - Osaka
We will set out for Nara, where you will explore Todaiji, a grand Buddhist temple established in 752, which houses an enormous Buddha statue. You will also have the opportunity to take photos and interact with the gentle deer wandering freely in the adjacent park. A delightful lunch will be part of your experience here. Following this, we will head to the Horyu-ji Buddhist Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that includes a seminary, monasteries, and temples. Its central pagoda is among the world's oldest wooden structures and is recognised as Japan’s earliest Buddhist temple—a key site of worship. Our day’s journey will lead us to Osaka, where we will arrive in the evening. Accommodation will be arranged in this lively and modern city, recognised as Japan's second-largest urban area. Later, we will explore Dotonbori, a vibrant district famed for its dynamic nightlife.
Day 13 - Osaka
On the final day of our journey, after enjoying breakfast, our adventure concludes, leaving you with unforgettable memories from this incredible experience.
