Day 1 - Seoul
Welcome to Korea! Upon your arrival in Seoul, you will be transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to explore at your leisure. In the afternoon, you will receive details about the start of your tour, giving you a clear idea of what to expect during your upcoming adventure. Enjoy settling into the vibrant city of Seoul, where traditional Korean culture meets modern urban landscapes. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Seoul
Our day begins with an early departure from Seoul as we make our way to the Cheorwon region, home to a section of the DMZ – the Demilitarised Zone that divides the Korean peninsula. Our exploration will take us to the Second Tunnel, an intriguing underground passage carved by the North Korean army and discovered in 1975. We will then visit the Cheorwon Peace Observatory, offering sweeping views of the DMZ and glimpses of the first North Korean villages, as well as a small museum dedicated to the Korean War. Continuing our journey, we will explore the fascinating, abandoned Woljeong-ri railway station and pay our respects at the Baek Ma Battle Memorial, commemorating the valor of a French UN battalion. A traditional lunch is included today.Next, we will visit a local producer of Makgeolli, allowing us to learn about and taste this traditional Korean rice liquor. We will then make our way back to Seoul in the evening. Please remember to bring your passport today, as access to the DMZ requires it, and the area can be closed unexpectedly due to its military nature. If closure occurs, an alternative itinerary will be arranged.After returning to Seoul, our guide will take us to City Hall to admire its remarkable architecture that mimics the shape of a wave. From there, we will cross over to see Deoksugung Palace, which is beautifully illuminated at night, offering a glimpse into Korea's blend of tradition and modernity. Our evening continues with a walk through the vibrant Myeongdong district – renowned as South Korea’s largest shopping and entertainment hub, whose name fittingly translates to ‘bright town’. Dinner will be at a local restaurant, and we will wrap up the evening with a ride on Seoul's modern metro system back to the hotel. Overnight accommodation is arranged in Seoul.
Day 3 - Seoul
Today, we will embark on an immersive five-hour journey through Seoul, beginning with a visit to Changdeokgung Palace. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is set within an expansive park and boasts a collection of historic palaces. Our next stop will be Bukchon Hanok Village, where we'll wander through this traditional neighbourhood of charming, historic homes. Following this, we'll delve into the War Memorial of Korea. This remarkable museum provides profound insights into the numerous conflicts that have forged Korea's history, focusing in particular on the Korean War, in which soldiers from various countries participated under the United Nations flag. Lunch will be provided at a local restaurant.In the afternoon, we'll move into Seoul's vibrant Gangnam District, notable for its bustling shopping centres and lively entertainment venues. To conclude our day, we'll reach the impressive Lotte World Tower, standing tall at 550 metres. You'll have free time here to either ascend the tower (please note that the ticket is not included) or explore the adjacent park and upmarket shopping malls. Following this, we'll return to the hotel, allowing you the evening at leisure to relax or further explore at your own pace.
Day 4 - Seoul - Suwon - Jeonju
We start our day by visiting Gyeongbokgung Palace, a majestic landmark with a history spanning over 600 years. You may have the opportunity to witness the traditional changing of the guard ceremony, should it coincide with our visit. Following this, we’ll depart Seoul, heading south to our first stop in Suwon. Once the capital of Korea, Suwon is famed for its remarkable UNESCO World Heritage fortifications. During our visit, we will explore these formidable walls and tour the Hwaseong Haenggung, the former summer palace. Lunch is included in today's journey. Afterward, we continue onward to Jeonju. This city boasts an enthralling historic centre, renowned for its Hanok Village. Here, you can wander through charming streets lined with traditional houses, quaint shops, and eye-catching art galleries, offering a glimpse into Korea's cultural heritage.
Day 5 - Jeonju - Damyang - Haeinsa - Busan
Today, we set out for Sunchang Gochujang Village at the foot of Mount Amisan. This charming village, with its traditional hanok houses and courtyards, is renowned for its production of gochujang, a spicy Korean chilli paste. Here, we will have the opportunity to delve into the culinary world and learn how this traditional sauce is made, guided by local artisans committed to preserving their craft. Next, we journey to the tranquil Juknokwon Bamboo Forest in Damyang, celebrated for its scenic paths perfect for reflection and enjoying the refreshing breeze. This forest offers more than natural beauty; it includes attractions like the Bamboo Museum, where you can explore the diverse uses of bamboo.Lunch is provided, featuring a unique culinary experience—savour rice that has been cooked and served within a bamboo stalk. Our adventure continues to Haeinsa, an esteemed Buddhist temple nestled amidst captivating mountains and lush forests. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Haeinsa, constructed in 802, safeguards the revered Tripitaka, a comprehensive collection of Buddhist scriptures etched onto 80,000 wooden tablets.Finally, we journey to Busan, South Korea's dynamic second-largest city, where we will stay overnight. Busan promises a vibrant atmosphere, blending seaside beauty with urban attractions.
Day 6 - Busan
On the sixth day of our journey, we head out from Busan to the striking Haedong Yonggung Temple. This 14th-century Buddhist temple is uniquely perched by the seaside, offering stunning coastal views. Returning to Busan, we visit the UN Memorial Cemetery, a solemn tribute to fallen soldiers from various nations. Later, we explore the bustling Nampo Port, home to the country's largest fish market, where you'll witness the vibrant local seafood trade. Following an included lunch, we take a leisurely walk to Yongdusan Park, dominated by its towering 120-metre pagoda.In the afternoon, we continue to Songdo Beach. Here, you have the opportunity to ride Korea’s pioneering marine cable car (weather permitting) that offers breathtaking vistas of the bay. Our exploration leads us to the colourful Gamcheon Culture Village, renowned for its picturesque alleyways, art galleries, and charming cafes. This vibrant area is a testament to Busan's creative spirit. After an enriching day of sightseeing, we return to Busan for an overnight stay.
Day 7 - Busan - Tokyo
After breakfast, we will arrange a transfer to the airport for your included flight to Tokyo. Upon your arrival in Japan, you will be greeted by an assistant who is typically Spanish-speaking, although assistance may sometimes be available in English. Following your completion of the necessary border procedures, you will be directed to a shared shuttle bus that will take you to your hotel. Once settled, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure, offering the perfect opportunity to start exploring this fascinating city at your own pace.
Day 8 - Tokyo
In the morning, we'll embark on an extensive guided tour of Tokyo, a city that beautifully blends vibrant energy with tranquil spaces. Our tour, approximately five hours long, kicks off with a brief visit to Zojoji Temple, where you can enjoy one of Tokyo's most iconic views featuring the Tokyo Tower. The temple grounds are notable for their hundreds of Jizo statues, intricately carved stone figures dressed in colourful attire, representing the protectors of children.Next, we'll head to the bustling Shibuya Crossing, often deemed the busiest intersection in the world. Following that, we'll visit the serene Meiji Shrine, dedicated to the spirits of Emperor Meiji and his consort. Our journey continues with a leisurely bus ride along the elegant Omotesando Avenue, leading us to the picturesque parts of the Imperial Palace and its gardens, with a stop to admire the iconic Nijubashi Bridge.As we progress, we'll pass through the vibrant Akihabara district, a renowned hub for Japanese manga and anime culture, also known as the "Electric Town." Our drive will take us past the Kokugikan, Japan’s famous sumo wrestling arena, before concluding our tour in Asakusa. Here, we'll visit the historic Sensoji Temple and the bustling Nakamise Street. A delightful lunch will be provided at a local restaurant before we head back to the hotel.In the evening, at 6:30 p.m., we'll regroup with our guide in the hotel lobby and head to the lively Shinjuku district via the metro (tickets included). We'll enjoy a stroll through Shinjuku's vibrant streets, known for their bustling nightlife, before dining at a local restaurant. Following dinner, our guide will accompany us back to the hotel by metro.
Day 9 - Tokyo - Mount Fuji - Kawaguchiko
Today, we venture to the breathtaking Mount Fuji region, travelling through scenic landscapes. Our journey begins at Arakurayama Sengen Park, renowned for its enchanting pagodas and unparalleled views of Mount Fuji. We then proceed to Kawaguchiko, a picturesque town embraced by mountains, blooming flowers, and the tranquil Lake Kawaguchiko. Here, we visit the serene Fuji Sengen Shrine, tucked among majestic trees, marking the traditional start of pilgrimages up Mount Fuji. We’ll have a moment to reflect and appreciate the magical setting.The itinerary includes a delightful boat ride on Lake Kawaguchiko, where you can absorb the serene beauty of the area. We also ascend Mount Fuji via a scenic road leading to the Fifth Station, situated at 2,305 metres, where breathtaking forests and views abound. Please note, during winter, the climb may be restricted due to snow or adverse weather conditions, limiting access to parts of the route.Upon returning to Kawaguchiko, you’ll have time for a leisurely stroll around the lake. Tonight, we stay in a ryokan, a traditional Japanese inn, offering you a chance to unwind in the onsen (public bath). Dinner is included. Note that the planned ryokan offers both traditional Japanese-style rooms with tatami mats and Western-style rooms; occasionally, we may arrange accommodation in a Western-style hotel.
Day 10 - Kawaguchiko - Iyashi No Sato Nenba - Toyota - Kyoto
We begin our day by taking a scenic drive through the picturesque lake-filled landscape to Iyashi no Sato Nenba. This small village, once destroyed by a typhoon in 1966, has been beautifully restored as an open-air museum, with its traditional thatched-roof houses now hosting arts and crafts shops, cosy eateries, and cultural displays. It offers a fascinating glimpse into traditional Japanese life and craftsmanship. Our next stop is the stunning Shiraito Falls, where the water cascades down 20 metres, creating one of Japan’s most breathtaking natural marvels. From here, we head to Nagoya to explore the Toyota Museum, a must-visit for car enthusiasts, offering insight into the remarkable journey and innovation of the automotive industry. After this, we continue to Kyoto, where we will settle in for the night.
Day 11 - Kyoto
Today, we fully immerse ourselves in the enchanting city of Kyoto, which served as Japan's capital from 794 to 1868 and housed the Imperial Court. Noteworthy for having been spared from the bombings of World War II, Kyoto remains a treasure trove of artistic legacy. The city also played a pivotal role in environmental history with the signing of the Kyoto Protocol in 1997, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.Our day begins in Arashiyama, where we admire the idyllic Togetsukyo Bridge, or "Bridge over the Moon," set against a backdrop of stunning landscapes. We then visit the revered Tenryuji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Kyoto's renowned 'five great Zen temples,' followed by a peaceful walk through its enchanting bamboo grove.Our exploration continues with a visit to the impressive Fushimi Inari Shrine and the stately Imperial Palace. We will also marvel at the Kinkakuji Temple, known as the 'Golden Pavilion,' which is beautifully reflected in its surrounding gardens. The sequence of these visits may vary to ensure a seamless experience.After our guided explorations, you have the option to wander through Gion, Kyoto's lively traditional district, famed for its bustling atmosphere and iconic geishas. Enjoy your free time in this captivating part of the city.
Day 12 - Kyoto - Nara - Osaka
Today, we set out for Nara to explore the historic Todaiji Temple, an impressive structure from 752 renowned for housing a giant statue of Buddha. As we wander the area, you’ll be greeted by the friendly deer that freely roam the park – your camera will surely capture some cherished moments here. Following a delightful lunch, included as part of our experience, we will continue to Horyu-ji Temple. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a remarkable complex comprising a seminary, monasteries, and various temples. Its centrepiece, a wooden pagoda, holds the title of the world's oldest wooden structure and stands as Japan's earliest Buddhist temple, serving as a significant religious site.Our adventure continues as we make our way to Osaka, arriving by evening. Here, we will settle into our accommodation in this bustling metropolis – Japan’s second-largest urban area, known for its vibrant atmosphere and modern flair. Later, we'll explore Dotonbori, a lively district famous for its energetic nightlife and colourful scenes that promise to captivate your senses.
Day 13 - Osaka
Our journey concludes this morning after breakfast in Osaka. As you embark on your onward travels, you'll carry with you a wealth of unforgettable experiences and cherished memories from your time exploring Korea and Japan.
