Set off from Madrid on a 13 day loop through Spain’s classics, coastal scenery and Andalusia, returning to Madrid. You’ll explore León and Oviedo, sweep through the Picos de Europa and medieval Santillana – with Altamira’s museum – and take in Santander and Bilbao’s Guggenheim. Sample La Rioja’s wines, admire Poblet Abbey and Barcelona’s Gaudí. Roll south via Peñíscola and Valencia’s City of Arts and Sciences, then to Alicante and Granada – with the Alhambra – before the Costa Tropical, Málaga and clifftop Ronda. Seville delivers views and flamenco vibes, while Córdoba’s Mosque–Cathedral and La Mancha’s windmills round things off.

Day 1 - Madrid
Welcome to Madrid. We’ll transfer you to the hotel, after which you’ll have free time to relax or explore at your own pace. In the afternoon, please check the information boards at hotel reception for details about the start of your tour.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Madrid - Leon - Oviedo
We leave Madrid early, travelling across Castile and León with a stop in Tordesillas to hear about the town’s history and enjoy a coffee on the main square. We then continue to León, where you’ll have free time for lunch and to visit its impressive Gothic cathedral in this historic city on the Camino de Santiago. After crossing the Cantabrian Range we reach Asturias, arriving in Oviedo in the evening. Here we include a city tour with a local guide – around 90 minutes – either this evening or the following morning, taking in the 9th century cathedral, the Congress Palace of Oviedo, the Campoamor Theatre and Calle de la Rua. A traditional Asturian dinner is included in a typical cider house.Note – depending on the number of travellers from Madrid to León, this sector may operate by train or by regular transport, and the stop in Tordesillas may not be included.
Day 3 - Oviedo - Covadonga - Santillana del Mar - Santander
We leave Oviedo for the Picos de Europa – our first stop is the Basilica of Covadonga. We then follow the Cantabrian coast to Santillana del Mar, one of Spain’s most beautiful towns with a remarkably preserved medieval quarter. Nearby, we visit the Altamira Cave Museum – tickets are included. Later, we continue to Santander, the regional capital, a coastal city with views of both mountains and beaches, where we include a panoramic tour with a local guide to take in its elegant bay and key sights.
Day 4 - Santander - Bilbao - Foronda Service Area - La Rioja - Zaragoza
After breakfast in Santander, we travel to Bilbao for a guided city tour – the largest city in the Basque Country and its main economic and cultural centre. We’ll see the Guggenheim Museum, noted for its striking architecture, and then you’ll have free time to explore the area or visit the museum. We continue to La Rioja, renowned for its wines, making a brief stop at Foronda Service Area en route. In Briones, we visit the Wine Culture Museum to learn about the history of winemaking. We arrive in Zaragoza in the evening.
Day 5 - Zaragoza - Poblet - Barcelona
This morning we take a panoramic tour of Zaragoza with a local guide, visiting the Cathedral–Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar and exploring works by Goya, the Roman theatre and a Renaissance palace, before a stroll by the Aljafería Palace. After lunch we head to Catalonia to visit Poblet Abbey – a magnificent walled medieval monastery – with tickets included. We then continue to Barcelona, arriving in the evening.
Day 6 - Barcelona
This morning we take a panoramic tour of Barcelona – a Mediterranean city celebrated for Gaudí’s modernist architecture, its lively Ramblas and the legacies of its World Expositions and Olympic Games. The tour ends at Maremagnum – a contemporary waterfront leisure and dining complex beside Columbus Square – where you can stroll through this vibrant area. The afternoon is at leisure for you to explore as you wish. We return to the hotel at the end of the day.
Day 7 - Barcelona - Peniscola - Valencia
We travel south along the Mediterranean coast, pausing in Peniscola – a charming medieval walled city edged by beaches – where you’ll have time for a stroll. We continue to Valencia, arriving around lunchtime. In the afternoon, we join a guided tour of this historic port on the Levantine coast, whose urban layout brings together monuments from different eras alongside the modern City of Arts and Sciences. After the visit, you’ll have free time to explore at your own pace. A traditional local dinner is included.
Day 8 - Valencia - Alicante - Guadix - Granada
Leaving Valencia, we travel through the gentle landscapes of the Valencian Community to Alicante, a Mediterranean city of golden sandy beaches and a charming historic quarter, overlooked by the imposing Castle of Santa Bárbara. You’ll have free time for a stroll. We then cross the arid scenery of Murcia and pause en route so you can have lunch. Entering Andalusia, we stop in Guadix, known for its inhabited cave houses. Its historic centre combines a Renaissance cathedral, traditional neighbourhoods and views towards the Sierra Nevada. We continue to Granada, arriving in the late afternoon – dinner included.
Day 9 - Granada
We spend a full day in Granada. If your tour includes tickets, we visit the Alhambra and its Generalife Gardens – masterpieces from the Arab era. In the afternoon, you have free time to explore – you may wish to see the cathedral, which houses the tombs of the Catholic Monarchs. Important note: entry to the Alhambra is strictly regulated by law. Tickets are issued once your tour is confirmed, and accurate personal details – full name and passport or ID number – must be provided when booking. Ticket costs are non refundable if you cancel. In the rare event the Alhambra visit is not possible, we will instead tour the Royal Alcázar of Seville, which offers similar historical and architectural significance.
Day 10 - Granada - Nerja - Malaga - Ronda - Seville
Leaving Granada, we enjoy striking scenery as we descend from the Sierra Nevada to the Mediterranean, following the Tropical Coast – a mild microclimate where guavas, mangoes and avocados thrive, and in the past, sugar cane. We stop in Nerja, a seaside town set above impressive cliffs, then continue to Málaga, capital of the Costa del Sol. Here you’ll have time for lunch and a stroll around the historic centre. Later we head inland through the Andalusian sierras to Ronda, renowned for the dramatic gorge that splits the town. We continue to Seville, arriving in the late afternoon – dinner is included at the hotel.
Day 11 - Seville
In the morning, we explore Seville on a guided city tour, taking in the cathedral – crowned by the Giralda, a former minaret – the banks of the Guadalquivir, and the atmospheric neighbourhoods of Santa Cruz and Triana. After the tour, we relax on an included boat ride along the Guadalquivir for panoramic views from the water. In the evening, you can choose to attend a flamenco tablao performance.
Day 12 - Seville - Cordoba - Consuegra - Madrid
We leave Seville, following the Guadalquivir Valley to Córdoba, once the capital of the Caliphate. With a local guide, we visit the remarkable Mosque–Cathedral (tickets included) and explore the Jewish Quarter, known for its narrow streets and flower filled patios.After lunch, we continue into Castile and stop in Consuegra, where 12 windmills stand beside the castle overlooking the La Mancha plain. We visit the Rucio Mill, then travel on to Madrid, arriving at the end of the day.
Day 13 - Madrid
After breakfast, we conclude our journey in Madrid – we hope you leave with lasting memories.
