Itinerary
Day 1 - Kilimanjaro - Moshi - Moshi Urban
On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our representative will greet you and arrange your transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Check-in is available from 14:00. In the evening, we will hold a detailed briefing with your climb representatives to go through essential information and ensure you are fully prepared for your Kilimanjaro trek. For guidance on what to pack, please refer to the ‘What do I need to bring’ section. If you wish, you can opt to add an extra acclimatisation night for an additional cost. This option involves an ascent from Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp, covering 6 km over 3–4 hours, followed by a short acclimatisation hike. Please note that choosing this will shift your itinerary forward by one day. Overnight in Moshi.
Day 2 - Moshi - Matadi
After breakfast, our guide and mountain support crew will meet you at the hotel for a final briefing before departure. We then travel by vehicle for approximately three to four hours to Londorossi Gate, the western entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park, situated at 2,200 metres. After completing the necessary registration and permit formalities, we continue by off-road vehicle to the drop-off point at 3,500 metres, where you will have your first views of the Shira Plateau. From here, we begin our trek to Shira 1 Camp at 3,505 metres. This initial walk covers a gentle altitude gain over a distance of 5 kilometres and typically takes one to two hours, allowing you to start acclimatising to the higher elevation. On arrival at camp, our mountain crew will set up tents and prepare dinner, so you can settle in and relax. Overnight at Shira 1 Camp.
Day 3 - Moshi
After breakfast, we set out from Shira 1 Camp (3,505 m) for a gentle trek to Shira 2 Camp (3,900 m). This stage is not demanding, allowing us to take in expansive views across the Shira Plateau and observe Kilimanjaro’s distinctive flora. If the weather is clear, Shira 2 Camp offers excellent views of Mount Meru, Africa’s fifth-highest peak. On arrival, we enjoy lunch and a well-earned rest. In the afternoon, we complete an acclimatisation hike towards Lava Tower Camp, gaining an additional 200 metres in altitude before returning to camp. Today’s main trek covers 7 km in 3–4 hours, with the acclimatisation hike adding another 2 km and 1–2 hours. We spend the night at Shira 2 Camp.
Day 4 - Gilman's Point
After breakfast, we leave Shira 2 Camp (3,900 m) and set out for Lava Tower (4,630 m), a key point on the route. This section involves several ascents and descents, with the trail reaching over 4,600 metres. The altitude can make this stretch challenging, and you may experience some discomfort as your body adjusts. To aid acclimatisation, we spend at least one to two hours at Lava Tower, where lunch is served. Afterwards, we descend to Barranco Camp (3,960 m), where you’ll have your first view of the impressive Barranco Wall. Tomorrow, we’ll tackle this well-known feature, which has a straightforward hiking trail despite its imposing appearance. Today’s trek covers 12 km and typically takes six to eight hours. Overnight at Barranco Camp.
Day 5 - Rombo
We begin the day with an early breakfast before setting off to tackle the Barranco Wall. We recommend leaving camp as early as possible to avoid the crowds. The ascent up the gorge wall is straightforward and usually takes about an hour. At the top, there’s time to rest and take in the views of the Kibo volcano. From here, we continue on a more challenging trek to Karanga Camp, navigating several ascents and descents along the way. Our guides will set a comfortable pace for the group. On arrival at Karanga Camp, a warm lunch awaits. After a short rest, we complete an acclimatisation hike towards Barafu Camp, gaining 200 metres in altitude before returning to Karanga Camp for the night. Today’s main trek covers 5 km and takes around 4–5 hours, with the acclimatisation hike adding another 2.5 km and 1–2 hours. Overnight at Karanga Camp.
Day 6 - Gilman's Point
After breakfast, we set out from Karanga Camp towards Barafu Camp at 4,640 metres – the final base before our summit attempt. The trek takes around four to five hours, gradually ascending through alpine desert terrain. On arrival, our team will have camp prepared so you can rest and settle in. Later, we complete an acclimatisation hike towards Kosovo Camp at 4,800 metres, then return to Barafu for a hot dinner. We recommend spending the remainder of the day resting and sleeping, as tonight we begin our ascent to Uhuru Peak. Overnight at Barafu Camp.
Day 7 - Gilman's Point
We depart Barafu Camp during the night to begin our ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Kilimanjaro at 5,895 metres. While the route is not technically difficult, the high altitude presents a significant challenge. Each pair of climbers is accompanied by a personal guide throughout the ascent, ensuring your safety and wellbeing. After reaching the summit, you may choose to descend to the nearest glacier if you wish. We then return to Barafu Camp for a two-hour rest before continuing our descent to Millennium Camp at 3,820 metres. Today’s trek covers approximately 15 kilometres and typically takes 8 to 12 hours. We spend the night at Millennium Camp.
Day 8 - Moshi - Moshi Urban
After a restful night in the rainforest at Millennium Camp, you will notice the welcome relief of lower altitude and the achievement of reaching the summit. Following a warm breakfast, we begin our final descent through lush forest towards Mweka Gate at 1,650 metres. The trek covers 12 kilometres and typically takes 4–5 hours. At the park exit, we gather as a group to celebrate your accomplishment, and you will have the opportunity to record your thoughts about the climb in the guestbook. We will then present you with your commemorative certificate at our office before transferring you back to your hotel in Moshi for a well-earned rest.
Day 9 - Moshi Urban
After enjoying breakfast, we will arrange your transfer to the airport. Please note that hotel check-out is at 11:00 am. If your flight departs later in the day and you require a late check-out, you may choose to extend your hotel stay for an additional fee.
