Content Writer

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join the On The Go Tours team as a Content Writer, contributing inspiring and informative content to our website and travel blog, The Inside Track. With exciting travel destinations and news to write about, this role is an excellent starting point for candidates looking to develop their travel writing. Under the guidance of the Content Editor you'll be working on a variety of content-based tasks designed to ensure our website will become one of the leading online resources for travel information, advice and updates.

Main responsibilities

As a Content Writer as part of the in-house web development team you will be:
  • Developing the 'On The Go Tours News Desk', liaising with tourism boards and keeping up-to-date with news reports to create timely news articles on travel and destination related topics that would be of interest or affect our travellers
  • Researching and creating detailed online city guides to a range of destinations that cover what to see, where to eat, how to get around and more
  • Creating original content for our website ranging from inspiring destination information to practical travel information, snappy taglines to detailed articles
  • Ensuring previously written content reads well, is wholly original and is factually accurate
  • Writing blog posts on a variety of destinations and travel experiences
  • Sourcing images and editing them in Photoshop
  • Writing hotel and destination descriptions for our in-house tailor-made document builder

Who we're looking for

This role would ideally suit a recent graduate looking to gain experience in a content-based role in the travel industry. The ideal candidate would have:
  • Excellent communication skills with thorough understanding of grammar and spelling
  • Good attention to detail with the patience to thoroughly proof all content created
  • An interest in current affairs and world news, and be familiar with various news sources
  • Creative flair with the ability to write engaging text that inspires our customers to travel
  • Some travel experience with a reasonable knowledge of the destinations we cover
  • An efficient working mindset and desire to produce high quality work
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office suite
  • Basic image editing experience using Adobe Photoshop
  • Right to live and work in the UK
  • An understanding of SEO and HTML code would be preferred but is not essential

What we're offering

This is a fixed term contract of six months with the opportunity to extend to 12 months subject to work available. As part of the contract you will:
  • Work full time Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm in our London W14-based office

Africa Destination Sales & Product Manager

On The Go Tours is looking to hire an experienced, self-driven Africa specialist who will create and manage the Africa specialist desk for European and North American enquiries as well as manage all contracts for Southern and Eastern Africa partners.

The successful candidate will be 100% responsible for growing On The Go Tours' Africa sales across all three reservations offices through overland, group, lodge safari and tailor-made travel.

Approx. 70% of your time will be in reservations converting tailor-made and lodge safari enquiries for travel to Africa and the remaining 30% will be contracting and managing relationships with ground handlers and accommodation providers.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

SALES

  • Responsible for managing enquiries including those generated by the website, telephone, repeats, referrals and ensuring they are all followed up in a timely manner
  • Ensuring that all clients are offered bespoke and exciting tailor-made itineraries, reflecting their interests, selecting the most appropriate flights, accommodation and excursions
  • Ensure every effort is made to close the enquiry into a booking
  • Maximise revenue and margin for every sale, taking opportunities to upsell and switch sell as appropriate
  • Hit agreed booking and margin targets
  • Provide exceptional levels of customer service at all stages of the process to promote repeat and recommended business, and ensure every client receives a trip which exceeds their expectations
  • Take full ownership and pride for the quality and accuracy of each trip, acting as a single point of contact until the client returns, being accountable for all administration relating to their trip
  • Deal professionally with minor customer complaints, ensuring they are resolved to the client’s satisfaction, escalating where necessary to Management
  • Participate fully in training sessions, attending industry events and exhibitions when requested, which may be out of working hours on evenings or weekends
  • Attending familiarisation trips as and when needed by the business

PRODUCT

  • Contracting and managing relationships with required ground handlers and accommodation providers
  • Responsible for the development of Africa product through the website and other distribution channels
  • Stay up to date with changing product and destination trends and patterns to ensure expertise in the field
  • Keep all sample and tailor-made itineraries up to date on the web
  • Contract new properties as required and in line with product objectives
  • Manage strong, positive supplier relationships with ground agents and suppliers
  • Quality manage the accommodation selection and where appropriate visit or arrange quality checks
  • Assist with the design and, ultimately responsible, for content sourcing, copywriting and production of all sales materials for both on and off line
  • Work with global sales reps on Africa product knowledge and sales skills
  • Provide support and advice to quotes from the Australia On The Go Tours sales office as needed
  • Share product knowledge, costs and client feedback with your colleagues as and when appropriate, and support management as and when required
  • Attend product and marketing events as required

KEY PERFORMANCE DELIVERIES

  • 20% of the role is the promotion and sales of overland product of our preferred ground operator in Southern and Eastern Africa
  • 80% of the role is the promotion and sales of tailor-made and lodge safari product in Southern and Eastern Africa

The successful candidate will be solely responsible for the lodge and tailor-made product whilst also being partially incentivized on overall global sales of Africa as a destination.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • At least 3 years selling Africa product, ideally for a specialist organisation
  • Some contracting experience
  • Sales driven and motivated by sales
  • Strong numeracy and data analytical skills
  • Ability to work under pressure

Product Team Leader

On The Go Tours is looking to hire an experienced, self-driven Product Team Leader to take on overall product management for a number of destinations, with the position based in our West London Office. The Product Team Leader would be responsible for creating new, and changing existing product, contracting, managing day to day operations with our DMCs, load management and writing copy for the web and staff leadership.

Responsible for a team of 3-4 Product Managers you will also manage the workload of the unit to ensure the projects are completed within our time frame against competing priorities. The successful candidate will need to have effective commercial management skills to make decisions on the financial viability of any suggested product addition or change. For any change you will be responsible for communicating these changes to all stakeholders including our reservations, marketing and financial teams, our local partners in destination and clients. As a member of the product team you will write and place content on the website and work closely with the Marketing Team to ensure product is effectively and correctly marketed. You will be the driving force in On The Go’s product expansion into new destinations and new markets – both mainstream and niche. As the team is small and multi-disciplined you will need to be a self-starter with broad experience and a get it done attitude.

YOUR TOP 5 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Make commercially viable decisions on new and changes to existing product
  • Manage the workload of a small team so that deadlines are met
  • Solve issues (either client or the effect of a change in local conditions) occurring in destination with minimal upheaval, change and cost
  • Become expert with all the tours we operate including the route, sites visited and inclusions

KEY PERFORMANCE DELIVERIES

CONTENT WRITING & WEB MANAGEMENT

  • Write/edit itineraries & destination information for use online and in print
  • Edit and update webpages, creating pages, writing content, uploading images and adding metadata
  • Proof reading web, brochure and advertising copy for factual correctness
  • Writing client letters regarding itinerary changes etc.
  • Adding dates, discounts and supplementary info to our web-based and back office systems

GROUND OPERATIONS/ DMC MANAGEMENT

  • Day to day communications with DMCs such as answering questions, providing advice on client related matters
  • Contracting new DMCs
  • Conducting annual price reviews, negotiating rates and requesting promotional discounts
  • Conduct guide training, policy and procedure training and annual reviews in destination
  • Overall support to the Head of Global Product on all levels of ground operations and DMC management
  • Ensure our ‘Service Standards for Ground Handlers’ guidelines are being adhered to across all destinations
  • Review passenger feedback (monthly), highlight consistent service concerns and implement strategies with the DMC to rectify

TEAM LEADER/ STAFF MANAGEMENT

Currently the product department consists of 2 F/T and 2 P/T employees based in the West Kensington office. The Global Head of Product works from Australia as do two other product support roles. The Product Team Leader would be the direct line manager for the London based employees.

  • Ensure the work unit keeps to the timeline as set out in the Annual Product GANT chart and assign resources (staffing) so that the timeline is kept
  • Prioritise the projects of the work unit, prioritising task with the most commercial value
  • Set and manage staff KPDs and KPIs

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Tertiary educated, ideally within the fields of travel, marketing, communications or other humanities
  • Demonstrated experience in a product management role relating to travel
  • Demonstrated experience with staff management
  • Strong numeracy and data analytical skills
  • Skills using In-Design and Photoshop software

OTHER SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Excellent creative writing, editing and re-drafting skills as a considerable portion of the position (at times) will involve writing about travel destinations so it is vital that you are able to independently research and compose original, accurate and interesting destination information
  • Highly results driven, self-starter and entrepreneurial
  • Must be well travelled, passionate and have a sense of adventure
  • Ability to work as part of a small team with pressured deadlines
