The Amazon Jungle

Lima - Puerto Maldonado. This morning we transfer to the airport for our flight to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival we’ll travel by canoe to our wonderful jungle eco lodge. A lunch buffet, bursting with local flavours, is served on arrival before we embark on a walk along the property’s nature trails. As we walk, a guide will tell us about the importance of the rainforest and the vital role it plays in the equilibrium of the planet. At dusk we get back in the canoes and get the chance to observe nocturnal animals and learn about the constellations.

The following day starts with an excursion on the lodge’s private cocha. During the trip we’ll be able to try our hand at some native fishing techniques, such as the ‘catch and release’ method. We’ll disembark the boat near the remains of the old Fitzcarrald steamboat and learn about its history. The next activity of the day is a boat trip to Rolin, a river island with a rich ecosystem. We’ll explore the island whilst admiring the vegetation and looking for birds before making our way back to land to seek out one of the lodge’s clay licks.
Overnight: The Amazon  |  Breakfast x 2, Lunch x 2, Dinner x 2

Days 4-5

Cusco

Puerto Maldonado - Cuzco. On day 4 we travel back to Puerto Maldonado by canoe and fly onwards to Cuzco, where you can relax and adjust to the altitude. The following morning we embark on a guided tour through the captivating city of Cuzco, taking in some of its most famous landmarks as we do. Along the way we will see the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, the Kenko Amphitheatre and Sacsayhuaman Fortress, just to name a few. The rest of the day is free.

Day 6

Sacred Valley

Cuzco - The Sacred Valley. Bidding farewell to Cuzco we travel on to the Sacred Valley today. Our first stop is the popular Pisac markets where we will have the chance to see the variety of colourful handicrafts on offer. The final destination of the day is the remarkable citadel of Ollantaytambo and its Incan fortress.
Overnight: Sacred Valley  |  Breakfast

Days 7-9

The Inca Trail

Sacred Valley - Km. 82 - Huayllabamba - Pacaymayo - Winaywayna. On day 7 we begin our trek of a lifetime along the famous Inca trail. We start the day by transferring by road to Km. 82 where we’ll meet our trekking guide and start trekking along the Urubamba River followed by the Kusichaca River. We’ll walk a total of 11km today before arriving at our first campsite in Huayllabamba.

The next day encompasses 7km of walking starting from our campsite in Huayllabamba. We’ll continue along to the Warmihuanusca Pass, from where you will be able to see the start of the path to the Runkurakay ruins. At the end of the gorge is an area called Pacaymayo and this is where we will spend the night.

The following morning we continue along the Inca Trail, taking in several different ruins as we go. Our first stop of the day is at the Runkurakay circular ruins, followed by the Sayacmarca ruins and then on into the jungle until we reach the ‘Lago Seco’. After crossing this natural feature, we will come across ‘The Tunnel’. We will move forward until we arrive at the Phuyupatamarca ruins. The final stretch of today’s journey leads us to Winaywayna, the second most important Incan site after Machu Picchu.

The rest of the day will be spent exploring the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu, the remarkable lost city of the Incas, which is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and a place that will leaving a permanent footprint on your memory. Here, we’ll be able to lay eyes on the Temple of Kalasaya, remnants of a Pucara structure. After a stop for lunch at a countryside restaurant, we continue on to Puno, our base for the next two nights.

The following day we take a boat trip on Lake Titicaca to see the remarkable floating islands of Uros. These unique islands are made of a certain type of reed called totora, which enables it to float, despite the weight of a civilisation upon it. We’ll then move on to Taquile Island, where we can mingle with the Quechua-speaking locals and see the island's archaeological sites. Later this afternoon we return to Puno.

At an altitude of 3660 metres, La Paz is one of the world’s highest cities. The imposing Mount Illimani looms in the background whilst below lies a valley full of sensational surprises. Buildings cling to the sides of the canyon that the city was built in and spill spectacularly downwards. Sprawling shanty towns give way to affluent high-rise apartments as the city’s central tree-lined thoroughfare runs through the downtown core. Here you’ll find grand government buildings, impressive museums, and vibrant markets, including the Witches’ Market where you can pick up anything from dried frogs to llama foetuses for Aymara rituals.

On day 14 our tour comes to an end with a transfer to the airport. Alternatively opt to extend your stay to explore La Paz and perhaps visit the spectacular Uyuni Salt Flats - we can arrange a private tour for you upon request.
