Tarangire lies a little distance to the south east of Lake Manyara and covers an area of approximately 2,850 square kilometres. The park is famous for its huge number of elephants, baobab trees and tree climbing African pythons. Tarangire National Park has some of the highest population density of elephants anywhere in Tanzania, more than Manyara and Serengeti. If you are fortunate to visit the area after heavy rains, the surrounding Manyara and Tarangire Pans fill with water which attracts huge flocks of Flamingos and other wading birds.

From here you drive around the rim and descend into the crater itself. Reaching the crater floor you will undoubtedly be amazed at this natural phenomenon before you. The crater is best known for its natural beauty and abundance of diverse wildlife. Surrounded by Tanzania’s highlands, this UNESCO-listed crater is said to be the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. On your game drive look out for the world-renowned Big Five and a host of other wildlife species including large herds of zebra and wildebeest. After an exciting day return to your accommodation to relax and enjoy a well-earned dinner.
