A view of medieval Dubrovnik from a Croatia Sailing boat

Croatia - Boats & More

What’s onboard

Travelling on a sometimes masted, rigged sailing boat (with onboard motor power) with a range of facilities including dining area and plenty of deck space to enjoy the spectacular views and sea breeze, you’ll be in the company of like-minded travellers.

Relax as you let the Captain and his support crew look after your needs. An onboard cook prepares breakfast and lunch each day, whilst in the evening, we offer you the chance to explore dining options at our numerous ports of call. Dalmatian food is very good indeed!

Individual boat design varies slightly from craft to craft, but all sailing boats offer a range of cabin types (some top deck, some on main deck and some below), comfortably accommodating 2 persons or at a squeeze, 3. Should you require a triple cabin, please contact us for further information and availability. As the cruise offers pure relaxation, it is entirely up to you how you enjoy each port of call. Relax or explore? The choice is yours!

Costsaver Boats

Costsaver boats are a great option for those on a budget. They offer ONLY twin bunk cabins (most with wash basin), all with shared bathroom facilities. The ratio of cabins to bathrooms is around 4-5 cabins : 1 bathroom on average. All boats offer plenty of sun and shaded deck space to laze about during the day, or why not sleep under a blanket of stars at night?

Costsaver boats operate on our Sailing Split holiday.

Classic Boats

‘Classic’ boats are offered on all our sailing itineraries. Classic boats offer mostly twin bunk cabin accommodation, though dependant upon the craft, triple and double-bedded cabins are sometimes available.

An exclusive feature of the classic boat is that all cabins offer private en suite bathrooms. Additionally classic boats offer towels, plenty of hot water, board games and ample shaded and sun deck space to lounge about!

Premium Boats

‘Premium’ boats are a class above our ‘classic boats’ and are on offer each and every week on our Sailing Split Cruise. Premium boats are also offered on our Cruise Dubrovnik trip every week from 27 May 2012 - 10 Oct 2012.

Premium boats offer a more spacious cabin with en-suite bathroom on newly built or fully renovated ships. Accommodation is mostly twin or double-bedded cabins, though bunk bed cabins are sometimes all that is available. Exclusive features of the premium boat include; air-conditioning in all cabins and in most of the common areas whilst sailing (no a/c when boat is stationary), a guided sightseeing tour of Dubrovnik with an English speaking tour guide and a delicious Captain’s Feast.

Additionally, premium boats offer plenty of hot water, towels, some linen, a TV and sound system in the reception area, board games and extensive sun and shaded deck space to lounge about!

Food Aboard The cruise

Continental breakfast and lunch are provided.

Continental breakfast will comprise tea or coffee, fruit juice, bread, butter and preserves, plus cold cuts and cheeses.

Lunch will comprise a starter of home made soup or pasta (during hot periods), a main course (where at least 2-3 times per week fish will be served) comprising either fish, meat or chicken with a minimum of two sides (potatoes, cabbage, other vegetables) and side salad and dessert. Dessert will also be offered and will comprise something like seasonal fruits, ice cream or perhaps pancakes.

All menus are designed and cooked by the onboard cook.

If fancying a full-cooked English-style breakfast, this can be arranged by ordering and paying for it on the boat, at nominal cost. Consult a member of the crew to arrange this.

In addition, provided there is enough interest (i.e more than 10 participants), the cook can arrange a special onboard Captain’s Dinner, at a charge locally. Check out what your fellow travellers are doing and if you feel like partaking, go ahead and pay for what is usually a very enjoyable evening!

Vegetarian?

If you’re an Ovo Lacto Vegetarian, subject to advance advice (on your booking form), we can cater generally towards Vegetarians. By this, we mean that although we don’t specifically cater to Vegetarians, the onboard cook will ensure that a Vegetarian gets more vegetables/foodstuffs suitable for Vegetarians. Please be aware that all ingredients and meal composition will be subject to locally available/sourced foodstuffs. There will not be as much variety as you might perhaps be used to in your own home or favourite restaurant/café back home. With this in mind, there will be no hidden surprises or disappointment for you.

What’s there to drink?

A bar operates on board all boats. Prices are in line with those one will pay in port at bars/cafes for beers, wines, basic spirits, mixers, soft drinks and bottled mineral water.

Since there is a bar aboard, it is not possible to consume personal supplies of alcohol or beverages not purchased aboard. If you were found to be flouting this rule, you would be asked to consume such personal supplies when ashore.

The same would happen if you were drinking BYO drinks in a hotel lobby! You’d be asked to consume the drink(s) beyond the confines of the hotel!

Nationality of crew

The boat crew is Croatian. Most but not all speak English. You can expect to encounter traditional people with traditional values. They are excellent hosts and go out their way to ensure you have a fantastic cruising experience.

Boat owners

The boats we operate our cruises upon are locally owned and operated by their crew who often sail in the summer and work on their boats or at other professions in the winter. The boats are often originally from the small ports you’ll visit en route. Our Croatian partners ensure all boats and crew operate to a high standard.

Hotel accommodation (pre or post cruise)

A boat will make up the biggest proportion of your Sail Croatia holiday, however, we do offer hotel accommodation to those looking at spending additional time in Split, Dubrovnik or perhaps Opatija before or after their cruise.

We’ve chosen hotels that factor in comfort and traveller’s needs - such as proximity to local transport, restaurants, shops and attractions. On all our programs, we utilise superior tourist class hotels (locally rated as 3 - 4 star) with the emphasis on accommodating you in well-managed hotels that factor in comfort, cleanliness and a modest range of guest facilities rather than putting on the Ritz. All guest rooms offer an en suite bathroom, a television and occasionally a fridge. Most of our Croatian hotels offer a range of guest facilities such as a restaurant or coffee shop and sometimes-additional facilities such as a bar, shops, and currency exchange.
