Bolt-ons
Make the most of your time away! Listed below are the optional activities that are available on this trip. Please note that you will need to book these prior to travel as we cannot always guarantee availability of these activities once you are on holiday.
Abu Simbel, possibly the most awe-inspiring temple of all ancient Egypt, with its gigantic rock–cut façade, was created to revere the mighty ruler Ramses II. Guarding the entrance to the temple, the 4 colossal statues of Ramses II sit majestically staring out across the desert, seemingly since time began. This excursion is offered on all tours visiting Aswan.
An aerial adventure awaits in Luxor! Imagine drifting silently over temples, ancient sites, ruins and villages in the early morning sun. See ancient Thebes from a different angle as you float above the River Nile and wave down at the locals as you drift a few metres from their open rooftops!
Experiences
If you are interesting in trips with similar experiences to this one, then check out some of the ones we've listed below.
Take a memorable camel ride across the rolling sand dunes of the mighty Sahara Desert in Morocco or the Great Indian Thar Desert in Rajasthan. Alternatively, enjoy the last remaining Ancient Wonder of the World on camel back as you ride between the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.
We offer a range of opportunities for you to get to know the locals and learn about their culture and lifestyle whilst travelling. The best way to learn about any culture is to live in the homes of the people, and participate in day to day activities. Whether its through community visits, accompanying Berbers in Morocco on their bi-annual migration or using homestay accommodation where you can experience real local warmth and hospitality.
One of the highlights of our Egypt group tours, is felucca sailing on the mighty River Nile. Feluccas are simple, traditional sailboats, with broad sails, that have plied the mighty Nile since ancient times. Sail during the day, taking in the colourful sights of the Nile village life en-route, soak up the sun, relax, jump in for a swim and let the peaceful routine of life aboard allow, you to escape the stress of everyday life! At night sleep ondeck under a blanket of stars! What better way to experience the great outdoors!
Sole survivors from the ancient Greek-listed Seven Wonders of the World, the amazing pyramids at Giza are the planet’s oldest tourist attraction! Known as Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus, the pyramids were already more than 2,000 years old when Herodotus the Greek historian visited them (5th century BC).

Postcards
Here's what some of our past travellers have written in to us and said about their experiences on this trip.
Mark,
Just wanted to drop you a quick e-mail to tell you how much we enjoyed our Classic Family Adventure in Egypt. We had a fabulous holiday and have some truly wonderful memories (not to mention hundreds of photographs). Our guide, Super Mo, was really excellent and contributed greatly to our enjoyment.
Thanks again for all your help with the booking - Abu Simbel and the Hot Air Ballooning were really great and we were glad we had booked them in advance.
Thanks again

Dear Jane,
I just wanted to let you know what a fabulous "On the Go" trip to Egypt we had last month. Our family (myself, my husband and our two girls, aged 13 and 10) had a tailor made tour and it was easily the best holiday we have had.
We were met at the Cairo airport by our representative Tamer (Tom), who is an absolute credit to your organisation. Nothing was too much trouble for him. We truly felt like we were the only people he was looking after. He organised for our bags to be held at the hotel, told us stories on our drives and entertained our girls while we were waiting around.
Our guide in Cairo, Michael, was also excellent. He had so much knowlege and looked after us very well.
When we arrived in Aswan our guide was Emad (I think that is how you spell it). He was absoultely wonderful. He even took us out for Christmas lunch after he was supposed to have finished work. His knowledge was also fantastic and he really helped a lot of the history come to life, especially for the children.
We had such a wonderful time and have many memories.
We would definitely recommend On the Go to others. This was our first organised tour anywhere and we are so please that we went with On the Go.
The staff in Egypt are very professional, the hotels were fantastic (the pyramid and Nile views were amazing) and the itinerary was perfect.
Thank you for helping us to get organised at the last minute.

My family have just returned from an “On The Go” Classic Family Adventure of Egypt and I would like to say how much we enjoyed our holiday and our Guide, Ahmed Helal, who was really fantastic. The trip was a very special trip for us as we had recently lost our daughter and as Egypt was place she had always loved and wanted to visit we wanted to do the trip in her memory with our three remaining children in memory of her.
It was not something we would have otherwise thought to do.
We were not disappointed and enjoyed the sights and sounds of Egypt and thoroughly enjoyed each and every experience we had. Ahmed really was wonderful and we enjoyed the fascinating history of Egypt through the years and especially enjoyed his rapport with the children and using role play to help the children understand the relationships between the Kings, Queens and Gods. We found him to be informative and professional and willing to help in any way possible.
He was also flexible and accommodating, given there was a pregnant woman in our group and Ahmed was doing his best to ensure she was able to enjoy her tour and not be exposed to the heat where possible as she was a little unwell and gave us good advice on where we could eat when in Luxor. He was always smiling, always pleasant and always asking what our needs were. He was happy to repeat information when we got a little lost (given the history of our country is only 300 years – keeping up with thousands of years of rulers was not so easy) and he took some wonderful family photos for us that will be cherished.
He was great when our 7 hour train journey between Luxor and Cairo extended to 23 hours after the terrible rail disaster, keeping the girls entertained and happy and teaching them to write in Arabic – something both girls are continuing to do.
Our 10 year old daughter Kennedy has since returned and presented a power point presentation to her class and as a result there will be several more families I am sure who will book with “On The Go” and we are certainly recommending that. We have been approached by families who knew we were travelling to Egypt who themselves are seriously considering travelling and have spoken highly of the family tours you offer which accommodate the needs of children and parents.
For many we have spoken too since our return about the trip we have discussed the importance of doing things while you can and enjoying them as a family – you just never know what is around the next corner. Whatever happens from here on in this is something special we will now all treasure.
13 year old Tegan speaks fondly of her time there and of Ahmed and says she will return one day – the highlight for her being the visit to the Nubian school and playing with the children there and having a meal with the family. Again she has come away with fabulous memories and some awesome photos (700 in all !!)
It is hard to pick the “best” thing we got to do – as it was all awesome – the tour is well planned and certainly encompasses many great things to do and see. I am glad we added on Abu Simbel as this was certainly incredible.
Please pass on our regards to Ahmed and Mina and let them know that they were instrumental in ensuring we had the trip of our life time and we look forward to saving our pennies and travelling with On the Go again – to another foreign destination and learning about other cultures, people and the history of their country. Ahmed remains very much talked about by the girls and is held in high regard by us all.
Kindest Regards
Sonia, John, Shane, Tegan and Kennedy Wilson, Oct 2009
Throughout very good journey, good mix of sights and relaxation, outstanding guide!
Nubian Village was a great experience and one of the highlights of our tour.
J. Gillespie, Jul 2009
Just back from Egypt and the Family Adventure Classic. We had the most wonderful time and our 14-year-old son said it was one of the best holidays of his life. We think he's right – only 9 days long but a lifetime of memories!
Apart from the mind-blowing history, we all loved the visit to the Nubian village school. The home-cooked lunch afterwards was one of the best meals of the holiday – seriously delicious. Perfectly balanced programme for all ages and the guide (Mohammad el Maghrabi aka Super-Mo) whom the children worshipped.
Well done everyone and the most enormous thank you.

Dear Ryan,
Happy New Year! I expect you are in Dahab as I write this but I just wanted
to write to thank you and the on-the-go team. We did complete the feedback
forms but we still feel we want to say a personal thank you.
We had the holiday of a lifetime exploring and learning about Egypt and
Jordan and were very impressed with the organisation by your team! Keith and
I are seasoned travelers and have never gone on an organised tour before and
had certain misgivings about doing so... However, we chose to book with you
because we felt the need for a real break and for once to let someone else
deal with all the hassle of buying tickets etc.
We felt that your Classic tour was expertly organised and very well thought
out - it was a joy and a real luxury to enjoy time as a family without all
the hassle!
In particular we wanted to say an extra special thank you to
1) Mohammed, our guide for the Classic family tour in Egypt. A very lovely
guy who was so accommodating and sensitively managed the three families - he
was so good with the children too.
2) Ahmed, our guide in Dahab. We were so impressed at the way Ahmed went out
of his way to sort things out and find us sympathetic accommodation. We
really appreciated this and we cannot thank you all enough for doing this.
Generally all your staff were so pleasant, helpful and kind.
Overall it was a fantastic trip and we would heartily recommend On
the Go - we wish you all the very best,
Angie, Keith & Callum, Dec 2008
I recently returned from Egypt and your Classic Family adventure. I don't usually make extra comments but I must because it was such a wonderful experience with an EXTRAORDINARY guide. Mohamed El-Maghrabi was not only knowledgeable and passionate about Egypt's history but understood our culture and thinking and therefore helped us see, appreciate and deeply experience Egypt. He was professional, genuinely kind and fun - a combination that made my granddaughter's first international trip such a positive and memorable one. THANKS OnTheGo and Mohamed!
