Days 1 - 9: Tanzanian highlights Welcome to Nairobi! We’ll be there to collect you at Nairobi Airport. Your first night will be spent at our pre-expedition hotel in the centre of town. Journeying south via Namanga, we cross the border and head into neighbouring Tanzania. Home to some of Africa’s finest game reserves, we camp at the attractive safari frontier town of Arusha. The town is perfectly placed for optional activities such as a visit to two of Tanzania’s best game reserves - the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
If you opt for the 3 day excursion (there is also a 1-day excursion visiting just Ngorongoro), with guides, the savannah plains of the Serengeti and the stunning Ngorongoro Crater National Park are explored in smaller all-terrain vehicles in the search for game. |

The Serengeti is home to the famous migration of the wildebeest and zebra; here you can spot the predatory lion, hyena and cheetah in their wake. The Serengeti also supports populations of elephant and giraffe. Thanks to the permanent water and pasture source in the crater, Ngorongoro is a photographer’s delight. See antelope, hoofed animals, black rhino, predators such as black-maned lion, cheetah, jackal and hyena and thousands of pink flamingo wallowing in Lake Magadi, set in the crater floor. From Arusha, we travel in the shadow of Mt Kilimanjaro via Pangani to Dar es Salaam. A ferry from Dar takes us to the spice island of Zanzibar, where we’ll spend three nights on this exotic, tropical paradise. Head for the beach or explore the labyrinth of narrow, winding streets in Old Stone Town on Zanzibar. Please note that acccommodation and meals are not included on the island of Zanzibar.
Days 10 - 19: Lake Malawi Leaving Zanzibar, we travel via Dar es Salaam and transit through Milkumi National Park, where it’s possible to view an array of wildlife impervious to humans and traffic, from the road, to Iringa where we camp at the Old Farmhouse, a beautiful and rustic campsite. Dominated by its huge lake occupying nearly 20% of it’s landmass, Malawi offers us pleasant respite from the heat. We cross the border post at Songwe and head to Chitimba Beach on the shores of the lake.
Crossing into land-locked Zambia, we stay at a pleasant campsite near the border, then drive to the capital, Lusaka, for one night.
Days 20 - 27: Victoria Falls & Botswana Continuing to Victoria Falls , we spend a few days in the adrenaline playground of Africa. 1700 metres wide and around 100 metres high, the Victoria Falls constitutes one of the most spectacular natural wonders of the world and has every adventure activity on offer, from bungee jumping, white water rafting, and every type of flight over the falls!
Travelling east, we drive to neighbouring Botswana via Kasane. Interestingly, Kasane sits at the meeting point of four countries - Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe! It’s also the gateway to the 11,000 sq. km Chobe National Park. We enjoy a boat cruise and can opt for a morning game drive here. Continuing south, we arrive at Maun - gateway to the stunning Okavango Delta. From here, we can opt to embark upon a 3-day excursion into the Delta. Travelling in mokoros (dugout canoes) with local polers, witness the flora and fauna rich wetlands by day and stay at island camps by night. Interspersing the idyllic canoe trip are game walks in the wilderness of the Delta - the world’s largest inland delta. An optional flight over the Delta is also available.

Days 28 - 36: Namibia Back on the road, we drive north and cross the border into Namibia. Replenishing supplies in Rundu, we camp on the banks of the stunning Kavango River. Heading west, we arrive at the spectacular Etosha National Park. The park is situated around the vast Etosha Pan, a haven for bird life. The park’s extensive gravel roads allow us to head out on morning and evening game drives. First class evening game viewing is possible at the floodlit watering holes in-camp. Travelling south through Damaraland - a region of stunning beauty, we visit a cheetah camp and the Spitzkoppe - a popular landmark that rises above the dusty Namib plains. At the old German colonial settlement of Swakopmund, we can opt to go dune quad biking, sand boarding, sky-diving or just chillout on the oceanfront. Further south, at Namib-Naukluft National Park, we scale Dune 45 - one of the surreal blood red and apricot coloured sand dunes.
Days 37 - 43: Namibia & South Africa Continuing southwards, we drive to the imposing Fish River Canyon before arriving at Orange River, where canoeing trips are available. From here, we travel into RSA and south into the wine-growing region of Cederberg. Arrival into Cape Town will be late in the afternoon.
PLEASE NOTE: Northbound itinerary will have a night in the Helmringhausen area after Fish River Canyon.
***Please note the due to the current political situation no touring will take place in Zimbabwe until further notice. Victoria Falls will be viewed from Zambia and accommodation will be in Livingstone rather than Victoria Falls.***
