Day 1: Beijing
Welcome to China and the start of your city break! Enjoy an arrival transfer to our hotel. Overnight - Beijing

Day 2: Tiananmen Square - breakfast
This morning, we'll explore the heart of Beijing including the vast Tiananmen Square where Chairman Mao’s tomb and various monuments to the people are located. Dominating the city’s heart is the Forbidden City, a centre of power for five centuries and seat of the emperors. Entering through the Gate of Heavenly Peace (replete with Chairman Mao’s portrait above the gate), we enjoy a guided walk of this old city within a city. Tonight, enjoy a Traditional Chinese dinner at a city restaurant. Dinner and overnight - Beijing

Day 3: The Great Wall - breakfast
Don some comfortable shoes. Today we drive out of the city to Badaling, where we can walk a section of the Great Wall. Some sections are fairly steep, but the walk on the vast wall that snakes for thousands of kilometres is one of those ‘must do’ experiences! Continuing a short distance from Badaling, we visit the tombs of the Ming emperors. We also make a visit to a cloisonne workshop, where we’ll see first hand the unique Chinese art of combining copper and enamel to make decorative pieces. There’s a shop if you fancy splashing a little cash. Lunch and overnight - Beijing

Day 4: Beijing - Shanghai - breakfast
Free day to enjoy Beijing your way. This evening, an overnight train journey to Shanghai. Overnight - train

Day 5: Shanghai - sightseeing - breakfast
From fishing village to super metropolis, the new Shanghai is perhaps China’s Manhattan. Blending old with new, Shanghai is one of planet earth’s most amazing cities. Enjoy a tour of the many city sights and enjoy an evening cruise on the Huangpu River. Overnight - Shanghai

Days 6 & 7: free time to explore - breakfast
Time out to enjoy two free days your way in Shanghai. Xiangyang Market (at the junction of Xiangyang Lu and Huaihai Lu) is the place to head if you’re seeking genuine copy Rolexes, bags, shoes and clobber. Perhaps do drinks, jazz and nibbles at the historic Peace Hotel on the Bund. Overnight - Shanghai

Day 8: Shanghai - breakfast
Hotel check-out and included onward transfer to airport.
