Christmas in Morocco - 8 days

Make your way to magical Morocco this Christmas, a short hop from Europe but worlds apart. An exotic land of spices, dusty ancient Kasbahs, rolling Saharan sands and verdant valleys and bustling souks.

Day 1: Marrakech
Wednesday 23rd Dec. Arrival transfer from Marrakech airport to our centrally located hotel included. Spend the evening at leisure. Overnight - Marrakech (B)
Marrakech - Gorge du Dades. This morning we drive to the beautiful Gorges du Dades, a valley with ancient kasbahs on the barren hillsides, which extends from the High Atlas to the Jebel Sarhro range in the south. Spend the remains of the day exploring this picturesque area. Overnight - Gorge du Dades (B, L, D)

Gorge du Dades - Todra Gorge. Merry Christmas! Today we travel to the spectacular Todra Gorge, a massive fault rising to 300m in a narrow valley which is studded with palmeries and Berber villages. Enjoy a relaxed Christmas in beautiful surroundings. Overnight - Todra Gorge (B, D)
Day 4: Erg Chebbi
Todra Gorge - Erg Chebbi. This morning we head down to Erg Chebbi sand dunes, which signify the commencement of the mighty Sahara Desert. Transferring to camels, we trek across the vast rolling sand dunes of the Sahara to our berber camp. Enjoy a simple dinner and spend the night at the camp under a sea of spectacular stars. Wrap up warm and remember your sleeping bag, it is very chilly once the sun sets! Overnight - Berber Camp (B, D)
Day 5: Ouarzazate
Erg Chebbi - Ouarzazate. Watching a beautiful sunrise from the top of the sand dunes is highly recommended before breakfast at the camp. Leaving the desert, we travel through the verdant Draa valley, along the famous route of 1000 Kasbahs. We continue on to Ouarzazate, which African traders once used on their journeys up to Europe. Ouarzazate has a large film studio where films such as Alexander the Great, The Last Temptation of Christ and The Living Daylights have been produced. Overnight - Ouarzazate (B, L, D)
The famous and beautiful kasbah Ait Benhaddou
Ouarzazate - Aït Benhaddou - Marrakech. In the morning either visit the film studio that produced Lawrence of Arabia (entrance fee payable locally)or opt to go Quad Biking (book and pay locally).

This afternoon we visit Aït Benhaddou, an incredible fortified cluster of ancient kasbahs, situated along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. Granted UNESCO World Heritage listing, Aït Benhaddou have been the setting for over 20 films including Gladiator. Late afternoon we head back to Marrakech. Overnight - Marrakech (B)
Day 7: Marrakech
This morning we tour magical Marrakech, an exotic pink city of snake charmers, steamy hammams, bustling souks and hidden palaces. The focal point and highlight of the city is the Koutoubia mosque and Djemâa-el-Fna - the central square, which is an extraordinary market place full of colour, music, spicy aromas and traders. Best seen in the evening when the square is overflowing with food stalls, dancers, acrobats, fortune tellers, musicians and henna artists.

This afternoon and evening is free for you to explore independently, soak up the incredible atmosphere and test your bartering skills in the souks. Perhaps pamper yourself with a steamy hammam! Overnight - Marrakech (B)
Day 8: Marrakech
Wednesday 30th Dec. The tour ends after breakfast today. (B)
