Lenin’s fascinating granite mausoleum located in Red Square is a Mecca for the curious and worth a look. Overnight - Moscow (B)

Days 4 - 6: Train - Siberia
Aboard train. Settle into life aboard the Trans-Mongolian Express as it winds its way east. The train actually follows well–worn ancient tea caravan routes. Day 7: Train - Lake Baikal
Aboard train. Via Irkutsk and skirting along the shores of breathtaking Lake Baikal, the journey continues via far Eastern Siberia. The train branches off the main Trans-Siberian line at a place called Zaudinsky, which lies just beyond Ulan Ude. Mongolia and China each have their own kilometre markers. In Mongolia, 0 km is the Russian/Mongolian border town of Naushki. Once over the Chinese border, the markers measure the distance to the big noodle, Beijing which is 0 km.
Overnight - train
Day 8: Mongolia
Ulaan Baatar (Mongolia). Morning arrival in Outer Mongolia. One of the most elevated countries in the world, Mongolia was also once one of the world's most powerful. At its height in the 13th century, Genghis Khan had by the time of his death in 1227, unified the Mongol people, organized a nearly invincible army of fearless nomadic warriors and set into motion the first stage in the conquest of an enormous territory that would be completed by his sons and grandsons. With extraordinary speed and devastating ruthlessness, the Mongols created the world’s largest empire, stretching at its greatest extent from Korea to Hungary.
On arrival, transfer to nearby Terelj National Park. Elevated Terelj is cool and the scenic alpine surrounds spectacular. The protected area is host to diverse flora and fauna and is famous for its unique granite rock formations.
*Please note: Due to extreme weather, clients undertaking a classic adventure during the winter will be accommodated in permanent accommodation and not
Mongolian gers.
Overnight - Ger camp* (L, D)
Day 9: Terelj National Park

Days 10 - 11: Ulaan Baatar
Terelj NP - Ulaan Baatar. Transfer back to Ulaan Baatar on day 10 with a visit to a nomadic family. Despite the prominence of grim, utilitarian Soviet architecture, Ulaan Baatar is a laid-back provincial capital set in the rolling foothills of the Bogd mountain range, on the banks of the Tuul River. Free time on days 10 and 11 to do what suits you, exploring the capital city. Overnight - Ulaan Baatar hotel (B:2)
Day 12: Train - China
Ulaan Baatar - Chinese territory. Transfer to rail station for onward train to Beijing. Beyond Ulaan Baatar, the landscape becomes a 180º panorama of uninterrupted steppe. Experiences
If you are interesting in trips with similar experiences to this one, then check out some of the ones we've listed below.
Enjoy the great outdoors, getting back to basics and soaking up the scenery. From camping for a night in the Sahara Desert, under a blanket of stars in Jordan's Wadi Rum or even on the snow in Antarctica! We also offer longer camping expeditions through the wilds of Africa. The choice is yours.
Transportation isn't simply a practicality, it can be an experience in itself. Enjoy the world's greatest train ride, traversing a third of the globe on the legendary Trans-Siberian or combine six scenic colourful and cultural train journeys through India.
One of Russia’s most iconic images is undoubtedly St Basil’s Cathedral, with its riotously colourful tent roofs and twisting onion shaped domes, each with their own distinctive pattern and colour scheme. Located on Red Square in Moscow, opposite the Kremlin, St Basil’s Cathedral was commissioned by Ivan the Terrible in 1552 to mark the 1552 capture of Kazan from Mongol forces. It was designed by architect Postnik Yakovlev and completed in 1561. According to legend, Ivan was so ‘blown away’ at the beauty and intricacy of Postnik’s work; he had him blinded so that he would never be able to design anything as fantastical again!

Postcards
Here's what some of our past travellers have written in to us and said about their experiences on this trip.
Hello Ryan
I write to let you know what a marvelous time we had on the trip that you arranged for us. Paul and I wish to thank you and all of the people who met and assisted us along the journey. The whole thing worked like clockwork, every time we arrived somewhere, we immediately found our names held on display, it was truly remarkable. It is not possible to pick out anyone person in particular for praise as everyone we met were friendly helpful and made our journey so very special. We must mention, however, Regina's assistance in Beijing, having only the one full day there, she arranged for a hire car, driver and guide, to take us to Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden city and a section of the Great Wall, along with stops for lunch, dinner and visits to a Jade factory, a and cloisonne factory, what a wonderful experience! Beijing and the Great Wall all in a day!
It goes without saying that we will be recommending 'On the Go Travel' to our friends, many, many thanks to you and all the the wonderful people who helped us along the way.
Best Wishes
Paul & Mike, Aug 2009
Dear On The Go,
Its taken me a long time to write and say thanks for all your help in organising a magical adventure for me and a friend earlier this year. I did receive one of your feedback forms, but not having a printer and getting back into the "Rat Race" is one of the many excuses I can offer!
In February this year, timed to fit in with my birthday I flew to Russia and began my trip of a lifetime! The guides that met us at each stop on the Trans Mongolian Express were fantastic, what unique, friendly and infomative people!
The timing of arrivals by our guides was fab, we were never left waiting or wondering where to go and they were all so friendly. Our guide in Mongolia was so kind she remembered my birthday and bought me a gift, a purse with a Mongolian girl on the front which I use everyday and whenever I'm down because my purse is empty, I cant help but smile and remember her kindness!
To wake up on my Birthday in a Mongolian Ger was amazing and to have a monk from the local monastry ask to stroke my boots was fantastically trippy! I wore "yeti type" purple fluffy boots and the Mongolians couldn't get enough of them! Everywhere I went they looked in amazement, on the train to China I was asked by a Mongolian Scholar what animal they were!
In one of your brochures it mentioned how once returned from a Trans tour I'd be able to tell "witty anecdotes around a coffee table", and how true this is, as you have read the tales are endless! I'm considering writing a book of them!
Thanks so much for all the hard work you and your staff did to help create my adventure, I have already spread the word on your excellent service and will consider to do so....and when that purse fills up again I know where to "On The Go!"
Thanks for reading,
Sarah Holt, Feb 2009
Just wanted to let you know that we had such a great adventure on the Trans Siberian trip. I'd like to thank you so much for all your help as it made the trip alot easier than it would've been if we'd had to find our own way. It was pretty full-on but on the go provided such great support and value for money.
Thanks again.
