Local Payment: US Dollars $555

Snow-capped Mt Kilimanjaro is the highest point on the African Continent, the world’s largest free-standing mountain and one of the world’s largest volcanoes. At Uhuru Peak (5895m), you’ll have impressive photo opportunities. Back home, amaze yourself and your friends with tall stories of your trek to Africa’s tallest peak. There’s no special equipment or expertise required to ascend Mt Kili as the routes chosen have been designed to allow for a slow and gradual trek with time for acclimatisation between 10,000 and 15,000 ft. There are several routes to choose from and they vary by steepness and popularity. The Marangu Route is the easiest and most frequented route on Mt Kili. The Machame Route, Shira Route and Western Breach are perhaps more scenic but certainly more physically demanding. Spectacular views are had on all routes as the ascent continues through a variety of habitat including low forest, cloud and rain forest, moorland littered with huge lobelia vegetation, alpine desert and magnificent glacial fields.

Situated between Victoria Falls and Bulawayo, Hwange - Zimbabwe’s oldest and biggest National Park - is one of Africa’s finest havens for wildlife and birdlife. It is home to vast herds of elephant, buffalo, zebra and large concentrations of giraffe. It also hosts predators such as lion, leopard, brown hyena and a wild dog population thought to be one of the largest surviving groups in Africa. The park boasts varied landscape. One part runs alongside the north-eastern end of the Kalahari desert. The south is sandy with extensive forests and open grassland. To visit Hwange today is to see what much of the interior of Africa might have resembled more than 150 years ago.

Masai Mara Mini Safari - 3 Days
Trip Price: USD $329

Free with some expeditions!
Local Payment: US Dollars $215

Kenya’s Masai Mara is arguably the country’s most famous reserve. It’s smooth grass-carpeted hills and plains dotted with flat-topped acacia trees are full of rich faunal diversity, fulfilling the expectations of any visitor searching the African landscape for the Big 5. Located west of the Rift Valley, the Mara is a natural extension of the Serengeti plains, in neighbouring Tanzania. The Mara River, the reserve’s backbone, traverses north to south. This course is the natural barrier crossed every year by the large migratory herds of wildebeest and zebra which march across the two parks in a quest for the best pastures, crossing en route the crocodile-infested river. Coupled with ever-watchful predatory cats in the midst, the annual migration is a risky operation and fraught with peril. Morning and evening game drives through the Mara give us the chance to spot a diverse array of wildlife including elephant, giraffe, black rhino, lion, leopard, cheetah, gazelle, buffalo, hippo, various other herbivorous species and birds.
