Day 1: Datong

Welcome to China! We will be there to meet you and transfer you to the train station for the overnight sleeper train to Datong.

Day 2: Datong

Welcome to Datong, we will meet you at the train for your 05:10 am arrival. After you check in to your hotel we head out to explore the Yungang Grottoes, Huayan Temple, The Nine Dragon Wall and The Shanhua Temple. This evening is free time to relax in your own time.

Day 3: Datong

After breakfast today we head out to visit the peculiar wood-structured Hanging Temple, built on the cliff at the foot of Mt. Hengshan it gives a breath-taking view of Chinese architecture. Because of the numerous pagodas in Datong it has been known as the 'City of Pagodas'. The most elaborate would have to be the Wooden Pagoda in Ying County. This pagoda is over 900 years old and is attractive for its exquisite design and delicate appearance.

Day 4: Datong - Xi'an

This morning enjoy a private transfer to Pingyao which boasts the famous Pingyao Old City included in the United Nations World Cultural Heritage in 1997. From the top of the grand City Wall, you have a bird's-eye view of the Old City, a complete city built almost a thousand years ago. We also visit the Ancient Ming and Qing Street constructed in the original architectural style. Later this evening we will take you to the train station for the overnight sleeper train to Xian.

Day 5: Xi'an

Arrive Xian and we will be there to meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Xian, China's capital during the flamboyant and sophisticated Tang Dynasty, has so much to offer. Later today we visit the Wild Goose Pagoda, city wall, the Muslim Market and the Great Mosque.

Day 6: Xi'an

Today sightseeing in Xian includes the Huqing Hot Springs, a scenic spot in the shadow of Li Mountain. Before visiting the Terracotta Warrior archaeological site, we visit a workshop where we see the process used to create the terracotta figurines. In battle formation, the Terracotta Warriors are one of China’s most awesome sights.

Day 7: Xi'an - Chongqing

This morning we will transfer you to the Airport for your flight to Chongqing. Arrive Chongqing and we will be there to meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Later today we will take you on a city tour and highlights include the Panda House in Chongqing Zoo and the Residence of General Joseph W. Stilwell.

Day 8: Chongqing - Yangtze & Three Gorges

Today enjoy a full day excursion to Dazu. Later we board your Yagtze cruise after dinner. You can participate in cultural programs on board the Yangtze cruise.

Day 9: Yangtze & Three Gorges

Good morning from the River Yangtze! At 6340km in length, the Yangtze is the 3rd longest river in the world, neatly dividing China into north and south, and wending its way through eight very different provinces. For the next two days enjoy spectacular vistas passing through all of the famous Gorges Qutangxia Gorge, Wuxia Gorge, Xiling Gorge on your way to Yichang.

Day 10: Yangtze & Three Gorges

The Gorges are a breathtaking sight. The first gorge we pass through is the shortest and narrowest of the three; Qutangxia Gorge. Here, the dramatic 1200m limestone peaks are often shrouded in mist and the river shoots through the narrow entrance with great haste. Next comes Wuxia Gorge, which straddles Sichuan and Hubei Provinces. Lined by twelve sheer peaks, Wuxia offers an awesome vista for some 45km. Finally is Xiling Gorge, the longest at 75km and which comprises seven smaller gorges. During our cruise, we’ll also sail through the new ship locks of the impressive Three Gorges Dam construction.

Day 11: Yangtze & Three Gorges - Yichang

Today we arrive at Yichang at 1300. We will be there to meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Later this afternoon we will take you on a city tour. Rest of the evening is free and at your leisure.

Day 12: Yichang - Nanjing

Free morning. Later this afternoon we will transfer you to the train station for your train to Nanjing.

Day 13: Nanjing

Arrive Nanjing and we will be there to meet you and transfer you to your hotel. The former capital of the Ming Dynasty is a growing modern city. We visit the Fuzi Miao (Temple of Confucius) and the Memorial Hall of the Nanjing Massacre. A moving experience that charts the atrocities committed at this very site. We visit the Mausoleum of Dr Sun Yatsen – a father of modern China and revered nearly as much as Chairman Mao. Evening is free and at your leisure.

Day 14: Nanjing

Today we will take you on a sightseeing tour to visit the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge and the Ming city wall the longest city walls ever built. We then take you to see the Provincial Museum and the Presidential Mansion.

Day 15: Nanjing - Suzhou

Today you will take the morning train to Suzhou. Arrive Suzhou and we will be there to meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Enjoy a tour of Suzhou today. One of China’s most charming cities, its fame rests on its waterways, and canals that are dotted with traditional bridges, houses and gardens. A cruise on the Grand Canal exposes Suzhou’s beauty. We also take you on a guided visit to the Humble Administrators Garden.

Day 16: Suzhou - Hangzhou

Today we will transfer you to Hangzhou. Arrive Hangzhou and check into your hotel. Later we will take on a guided tour of the West Lake which is undoubtedly the most renowned feature of Hangzhou, noted for the scenic beauty that blends naturally with many famous historical and cultural sites. Highlights today will be Linyin Temple and a tranquil bicycle ride in this beautiful scenic area as well as a visit to the Tea Gardens.

Day 17: Hangzhou - Shanghai

Today we will transfer you to Shanghai. Arrive Shanghai and we will be there to meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Rest of the afternoon is free and at your leisure.

Day 18: Shanghai

This morning enjoy a full day guided tour of Shanghai. We head out to explore the city once known for its decadent magnetism that attracted fortune seekers and adventurers, Shanghai looks like a European city in a Chinese setting. Today, we visit the Oriental Pearl TV tower, explore the Jade Buddha Temple, charming Yuyuan Gardens, and the Old City.

Day 19: Shanghai

Today we bid farewell to amazing China with a transfer to the airport for your flight home.
