To the west is the mighty Thar Desert and the Aravalli Hills, whilst the Vindhya Mountains are generally taken to be the southern boundary of northern India.
The state of Rajasthan is known as the regal Land of the Rajputs. The colour, pomp and history of Rajasthan is one of India’s biggest draw-cards. Places like the Pink City of Jaipur, the Lake City of Udaipur, the Blue City of Jodhpur and romantic desert outposts such as Jaisalmer are Rajasthan personified.
Yet, Rajasthan is just a small piece of north India. There’s the sacred Golden Temple at Amritsar in Punjab, the awesome carved Temples of Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh, the holy Ganges at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and the majestic Edward Lutyens Raj-era masterpiece of New Delhi. And, never to be forgotten, India’s most famous sights - the Taj Mahal and Shah Jahan's Amber Fort.
