Welcome to India. We will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to the hotel to freshen up, before we transfer you to the train station for the overnight train to Amritsar.
Today a visit to the Famous Golden Temple the seat of the Sikh religion, Amritsar is one of the Punjab’s principal cities. Built in 1803 and made of marble, copper and pure leaf gold, the temple is an amazing architectural feat. Also you will enjoy a visit to Wagah - the only border crossing between India and Pakistan for the sunset ‘Retreat’ ceremony, where the changing of the guards & ceremonial lowering of the flags is performed with great pomp.
Today we will drive you to Dharamsala and check you into the hotel. This afternoon you will have the car and driver at your disposal, so you can explore (no guide).
Today we will drive you to Shimla. The ‘summer capital’ of British India sprawls along a crescent-shaped ridge at an altitude of over 2100m in southern Himachal Pradesh. This was the most important hill station in India before Independence.
Today we enjoy a guided sightseeing tour, venturing into the narrow streets, which fall steeply away from the ridge giving way to colourful bazaars and fine views of the surrounding valley and snow-capped peaks. The afternoon is yours for relaxing.
We will transfer you to the Kalka railway station for the train to Delhi (Kalka Shatabdi departing at 17:45 and arriving at 21:55). On arrival in Delhi we will transfer you to the hotel.
We transfer you to the airport for the flight to Varanasi (AI 406 departing at 10:30 and arriving at 11:50). On arrival we will transfer you to the hotel. This evening we will take you to see the Aarti ceremony on the Ganges.
This morning, we enjoy a sunrise boat ride on the holy Ganges where we’ll view the ancient religious tradition of ritual cleansing that takes place on the many riverbank ghats (riverside steps). Later, we embark on a tour of the city.
Today we will drive you from Varanasi to Lumbini and on arrival we will check you into the hotel. This afternoon we will take you on a sightseeing tour of Lumbini.
Leaving Lumbini, we drive to Royal Chitwan National Park. Widely acknowledged as one of the finest National Parks in Asia, Chitwan supports a population of a variety of species including Indian one horned rhino, bison, sloth bear, wild boar, deer, leopard and of course the magnificent, if elusive, Bengal tiger. Enjoy an afternoon game drive.
We drive to Kathmandu, about 6 hours drive. On arrival we will check you into the hotel.
Resembling a medieval city of temples, shrines and living gods, Kathmandu is Nepal’s biggest and most cosmopolitan city. You will see this first hand with a guided tour of the city including Swayambhunath, Kastha Mandap and Kumari Devi.
