Day 1: Delhi
Namaste! Welcome to India and New Delhi the capital city of India. We will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. Today we explore both Old and New Delhi - the order of New Delhi is a huge contrast to the unorganised chaos of the Old City. But both are just as appealing. Highlights we be the impressive Red Fort, Jama Masjid - India’s oldest and largest mosque, Raj Ghat - the site of Gandhi’s cremation and more.
Day 2: Delhi - Agra
Morning train to Agra. Arrival transfer to your hotel. After we visit Agra fort, which boasts some of India’s finest Mughal buildings behind it’s fortified walls. During its history it has been a palace, a fort and a prison! This evening a visit with guide to the Taj Mahal.
Day 3: Agra - Varanasi
Morning you can visit the Taj at sunrise without guide. Today enjoy a half day guided tour to Fahetpur Sikri and some free time in Agra. This evening we transfer you to the station for the sleeper train to Varanasi.
Day 4: Varanasi
Upon arrival, we will then drive to Varanasi and transfer you to the hotel. Enjoy a guided tour of the key temples and places of interest then a bit of free time until the evening rickshaw ride to see the Arti ceremony on the Ganges.
Day 5: Varanasi - Darjeeling
In the early morning of we will enjoy a boat ride on the holy Ganges River. Later after a relaxing breakfast we will take you on a guided sightseeing tour to visit the famous Buddhist holy sight of Sarnath which is where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon to the five holy men preaching the middleway to final 'NIRVANA’. We then proceed to the train station for the overnight train to New Jalpaiguri.
Day 6: Darjeeling
Arrive New Jalpaiguri at 0800 hours and you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Darjeeeling.
Day 7: Darjeeling
Enjoy a drive to Tiger Hill to catch a view over the snowy peaks of Kanchenjunga - the world’s third highest mountain. Continuing, enjoy a Toy train visit to the Ghoom Gompa (monastery) followed by a visit to the Mountaineering institute and Tea Garden.
Day 8: Darjeeling - Kolkata
Free day and at your leisure without a vehicle. Check out at noon. Later today we will transfer you to the railway station for the overnight sleeper train to New Jalpaiguri. Train 2343, Darjeeling Mail departs at 2205 and arrives the next morning at 0800. 1st class air conditioned sleeper.
Day 10: Kolkata
This morning enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city which includes a visit to the Indian Museum, Jain Temple, Marble palace, St Paul's Cathedral and Victoria Memorial. Opened by the Prince of Wales in 1921, this imposing vision in marble often called the “Taj” of the British Raj overlooks the grassy Maidan, the city’s green belt. Afternoon free.
Day 11: Kolkata - Bentota and Beruwala
Morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Colombo via Chennai. Arriving around 8pm into Colombo we will transfer you to your hotel in Bentota The Waterside Hotel “Bentota” B&B basis (HOTEL CONFIRMED IN SRI LANKA)
Days 12-15: Bentota and Beruwala
Enjoy free days at leisure on Sri Lanka’s tropical palm-fringed coast. Optional excursion to Ratnapura or if in season Whale spotting, diving, surfing lessons, elephant orphanage and much more.
Day 16: Bentota and Beruwala
We will transfer you to Colombo airport in time for your flight back to the UK.
