Morning after breakfast enjoy a tour of the city that includes a vist to St George Fort, built in 1653 and St Mary’s Church, the oldest British church in India.
Morning leaving Chennai we visit visit Kanchipuram, one of sacred cities in India and the seaside town of Mahabalipuram, famous for its shore temple. The city is also famous for handwoven silk. In Mahabalipuram, the huge rock-cut sculptures and mandapams (pillared pavilions) date from the 5th to 8th centuries. Check into your hotel.
Morning we drive and visit Tanjore, also known as Thanjavur, Tanjore is an ancient fortified town, with a glorious history dating back more than 1500 years. Onward drive to Trichy arrival and check into your hotel.
Take a morning sightseeing tour of Trichy before the journey continues south to Madurai. An important centre for worship and commerce, Madurai has been around since the dawn of civilisation in southern India. Arrival check in and free time to explore.
Morning tour highlights include the Sri Meenakshi Temple built in 1560 and the city’s busy bazaars. Evening free time we recommend you witness a religious ceremony at a local temple.
The journey continues to Periyar which has south India’s most popular wildlife sanctuary and home to sambar wild boar, elephant, bison, antelope, langur and a small tiger population. Kumily, close to the sanctuary and where you’ll stay, is a pretty town dotted with small spice and handicraft shops.
There is plenty to do in and around Periyar. So free time to book and pay locally for excursions such as a boat ride on Lake Periyar to spot herds of wild elephants or visit the nearby tea estates and spice plantation.
This morning, you’ll board a traditional Keralan rice boat for a journey through the backwaters in and around Allapuzha (Alleppey). The boat will cross shallow, palm-fringed lakes and cruise along peaceful canals where copra and cashews are loaded onto local boats. The on-board cook will prepare locally-inspired food. Relax, read and catch some sun as the boat plies it’s route.
Disembarking at Allepey today we drive to Mararikulam for your relaxing beach stay.
Morning drive to Kochi. This afternoon enjoy a sightseeing tour of the town including the beautiful Parsi Synagogue built in 1568, the Dutch Palace built by the Portuguese in 1555 and St Francis’ Church. A walking tour of Fort Cochin takes you through streets still graced with traces of Portuguese, Dutch and British colonial architecture.

This morning, we travel beyond Jaipur to the 16th century Amber Fort. An exotic elephant ride transports us to the lofty fort, where we’ll enjoy a tour of this Rajput extravaganza. Why not bolt on an early morning amazing hot air balloon ride? Later in the afternoon we tour the City Palace, which boasts an interesting museum of regal attire and Jantar Mantar, an ancient astronomical observatory.
Driving to Agra we stop to visit the ghostly former Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri, abandoned due to lack of water. Arrival into Agra we visit the Agra fort and then sunset guided tour of the Taj with free time to explore. Evening at leisure.
Today, we travel by express train to Jhansi and drive onward to Khajuraho - home of the resplendent Hindu temples which were built during the Chandela dynasty over a 100 year burst of creative genius from 950-1050 AD. Enjoy an afternoon tour of the site. Evening at leisure.
