Welcome to Kenya! Arrive into Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
We drive to Lake Elementeita, a small soda lake, nestled in the eastern sweep of the Great Rift Valley. The Lake is surrounded by spectacular country that played an important role in the early colonial history of Kenya. The lake attracts many visiting flamingo, and its shores are grazed by zebra, gazelle, eland and families of warthog. The lake and its surrounding forests are perfect for long walks and bird watching. Spend the afternoon at leisure to relax or take up a few of the optional activities available at the lodge.
After breakfast drive to Lake Nakuru National Park (30km, 20min). You will spend the day exploring this beautiful park famous for its flamingo rimmed lake in the centre. The park also offers some of the best opportunity of seeing the very rare rhino as well as the elusive leopard. You will spend the day in the park on a game drive, stopping off to enjoy a picnic lunch. Later in the afternoon you return to Lake Elementaita.
This morning we depart for the world famous Masai Mara (320km, 5 hours). The journey takes us on some rough roads across the floor of the Great Rift Valley, the longest rift in the crust of the earth. On route there will be some good opportunities to see a number of wild animals. Enjoy lunch before an afternoon game drive (shared canter) in the Mara Reserve.
We head our this morning for a game drive. The Mara is technically an extension of Tanzania’s renowned Serengeti National Park, but it’s rolling grasslands, meandering rivers and towering escarpments equals to an endless amount of game viewing. Home to a wide variety of animals, the Mara is also famous for its Big Five. Depending on the game drive, we’ll proceed back to the lodge for a late lunch, only to return again in search of more wildlife action late afternoon.
After breakfast, we drive to the Sirare border, where your Tanzania guide/driver will pick you up and take you in the Serengeti National Park.
Today you will set off on a full day game drive taking a picnic lunch with you. You will have more time to explore a larger area of the Serengeti, with its various landscapes, from savannahs, forests, dry river beds and rocky kopjes, all of which offering a better environment for a whole range of animals. Your picnic lunch will be enjoyed in a secluded spot in the park among the wildlife.
After breakfast depart for Ngorongoro Crater, en-route there will be a stop at the Olduvai Gorge.
Today you will depart for the Ngorongoro Crater, descending into the crater floor itself, for a full days game drive. Home to nearly 25,000 animals, which remain in the crater due to the constant supply of water from the springs. There is a very good chance of spotting the big five: lion, elephant, endangered black rhino, buffalo and leopard plus countless other African mammal species. This caldera, formed by a volcano sinking, hosts a unique cross-section of eco-systems, from Soda Lake to savannah and is home to almost every major species of African mammal.
After breakfast we leave for Tarangire National Park (140km, 3 hours) with game drive en route. This is the classic Africa of lore with shimmering acacia stands, old baobab trees, Masai tribes and herds of elephant. In the dry-season of July-October, Tarangire National Park surpasses the Serengeti in terms of animal concentration as big herds begin to congregate around the permanent water of Tarangire River. We then drive to Maramboi, with its spectacular views across the Rift Valley to the escarpment. Afternoon game drive.
Toay, we transfer you to Arusha airport for your flight to Zanzibar. On arrival you will be met and transferred to you bungalow.
