geographical area

Morocco is located on the North-western tip of Africa and covers almost 446,550 sq km. It has a coast on the Atlantic Ocean that reaches past the straight of Gibraltar into the Mediterranean Sea. Morocco has a rugged landscape with the Rif Mountains running from the north-west to the north-east and the Atlas Mountains running down the spine of the country from the south west to the north east. Most of the south east portion of the country is in the Sahara Desert.

Most Moroccans are Sunni Muslims of Arab, Berber, or mixed Arab-Berber stock. About three-quarters of all present-day Moroccans are of Berber descent, while Arabs form the second largest ethnic group.

Morocco is the same time as Greenwich Mean Time (UK time) but they don't observe daylight saving.

0900 - 1300hrs and 1700 - 2200hrs in summer and 1000-1800hrs in winter, often with a long break in the afternoon. Many shops are closed on Friday and Sunday and hours may change during Ramadan.
