frequently asked questions
|
1. When and how should I book my tour? If planning to travel between July and November and during January or if your plans coincide with Christmas, Easter, ANZAC Day in Turkey or school holidays we recommend booking as early as possible. Our expedition departures during these times prove to be very popular. Flight availability is also sought after, so book your flights to Africa soon. For trips commencing in Nairobi, The Falls, Joburg or Cape Town, we include your airport arrival transfer and the first night's accommodation at our pre-expedition hotel or campsite (excludes bolt-ons). We find most of our travellers arrive on long-haul flights, so this move provides you with a hassle free arrival into Africa. |

2. What are the most important things I must buy for an African tour?
| Sleeping bag |
A sleeping bag is essential for participation on our expeditions. Sleeping bags must be of a compact type that roll up into a stuff bag. Note - if trekking up Mt Kili, you’ll need a minimum 3 season bag.
|
| Carry/roll-up mat |
Consider purchasing a compressed foam carry/roll-up mat, as these are a relatively soft option and provide good insulation on damp ground. Inflatable and amazingly compact bed mats better known as thermarests are now stocked in good outdoor specialist shops. Use of these will afford great comfort, but are more expensive than the compressed foam carry/roll-up mats.
|
| Mosquito nets |
If at times when it is possible, you’d like to sleep under the stars, a personal mosquito net is essential. Whilst expensive to buy in the UK, nets can be obtained cheaply in Nairobi, Arusha and other cities in Africa.
|
| Toilet paper and antiseptic wipes |
Pack a flat pack of toilet paper and antiseptic wipes. |
| Mini First Aid Kit |
Pack your own mini first-aid kit. |
| Mosquito spray |
Pack some mosquito spray (with active DEET ingredient).
|
| Spectacles |
If you’re a contact lens wearer, take a spare pair of spectacles. If a spectacle wearer, pack a spare pair! |

3. Are the tents easy to erect? Yes! We provide spacious, easily-erectible 2 person A-frame or dome tents with sewn-in ground sheets and fly sheet. Campsites range from well-established camps with an array of facilities that sometimes includes a bar, mini-mart or even a pool to more basic camps with few facilities. Dependent upon our day-to-day itinerary, at times we will bush camp. Bush camping on occasion allows us to return to the great outdoors and really be at one with nature. |
