Big African Cats

Whether you're a dog or a cat lover, the big African cats are an amazing sight to be seen. All the African countries we travel to have lots of lions, and these majestic creatures provide ideal opportunities for getting that picture perfect shot of a pride of lions especially as they are the only big cats that live together in groups.

Speedy cheetahs can be harder to spot as they are the fastest mammal in the world - they can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometres) in only three seconds! Most wild cheetahs are found in eastern and southwestern Africa and the best place to spot these big cats, as with leopards is usually Namibia.

Don't forget to look up when searching for leopards as these strong and lithe animals love to hang out in trees, sometimes hunt from them and even take their prey up there to snack in peace! Leopards can be found in most of Sub-Saharan Africa, but like the other big cats are endangered and quickly disappearing so a little luck always comes in handy. Having said that, leopards can have a flamboyant side so find one in the right mood and he may well pose for some fabulous photos, just don't get too close!

As well as the chance to see the big cats in their natural environments, we offer opportunities to have a close encounter with these wonderful animals and through your contributions, aid in their rescue and rehabilitation. Why not opt to Walk with Lions in Zimbabwe, visit the Born Free centres in South Africa - home to rescued lions and leopards and get to know the friendly cheetahs in Cheetah Park, Namibia.

See below for a selection of tours, where hopefully you'll be lucky enough to encounter some big cats. A feline adventure awaits!
