About Tombs of the Nobles
Situated on the West Bank of the Nile, near the city of Luxor (formerly known as Thebes), is the site of the Tombs of the Nobles. Made up of five different sites, this ancient area consists of around 400 tombs, all of which contain the remnants of nobles, priests and other official figures. The tombs are all intricately decorated with scenes of their daily life to ensure that the good times continue through to the afterlife. The earliest of all the tombs could date back to as early as 2650 BC. Excavators have carefully numbered some of the tombs that have been unearthed but there are hundreds more, dating to a slightly later period, which remain unnumbered.

The tomb of Ramose is also significant as it was never finished. It was commenced under the rule of Amenhotep, who later changed his name to Akhenaten. Its decor includes carved scenes in what was considered to be the 'traditional' style of the time. Finally, the tomb of Sennofer, who was Mayor of Thebes and overseer of several agricultural procedures, is one worth viewing and is commonly referred to as the 'Tomb of Vines' due to the depictions of grapes and vines all over its ceiling. There are also illustrations of Isis and Anubis on its walls.
