Welcome to Burma. Arrive Yangon Airport and after a warm welcome transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure.
Fly to Bagan to explore its astounding temple filled plain. En route to your hotel visit the beautiful golden Shwezigon Pagoda and the 13th century Wetkyi-in Gubyaukkyi Temple with its lovely frescoes. Afternoon sightseeing includes key temples and a Burmese lacquer ware factory before an evening excursion to Ananda, Bagan’s finest and most revered temple.
Enjoy a day trip to the village of Salay and Mount Popa today. Salay is home to many active monasteries including the impressive Yoke-son Monastery and its famous wood carvings. Mystical Mount Popa, is an extinct volcano which is believed to be the abode of spirits. 777 winding steps are carved into the side of the mountain, taking pilgrims up to the striking Popa Taungkalat monastery which sits atop the mountain.
Fly to Mandalay, former capital of the Burmese Empire and spend the day exploring the city sights including the incredible golden Buddha of Mahamuni Paya. Then enjoy spectacular sunset views of the city from Mandalay Hill.
This morning transfer to airport for flight to Heho. We then drive to the small quiet town Pindaya enjoying the great scenic beauty of the countryside along the way. Here we visit Pindaya Caves, well known for its Buddha statues carved out of limestone, followed by a short stop at over 250 years old Banyan trees. Thereafter, drive to Nyaung Shwe then transfer to hotel by boat for check in.
Today enjoy an excursion on the lake: leg-rowers are the most famous attraction in the region, also the floating gardens, Phaungdawoo Pagoda, Ngaphaechaung Monastery (Jumping Cats), traditional blacksmith, silk and cotton weaving factories, local silversmith, cheroot industry and boat making factory.
Enjoy a morning visit Indein village, located at the western side of the lake. Passing Nyaung Ohak Monastery, follow a stair path lined up with many hundreds of wooden columns to reach the impressive Shwe Indein Pa-O complex. On the way back to the boat, walk through a romantic bamboo forest at the riverside, where you may observe local people having a bath. We then transfer back to Heho airport for return flight to Yangon.
On day 8 your Burmese adventure comes to an end after a final morning of sightseeing in Yangon including the Gaba Aye (World Peace) pagoda and Mahapasana Cave, a replica of the Satta Panni cave in India where the first Buddhist Synod took place. We will then transfer you to the airport for your flight home.
