Welcome to China and the start of your adventure with On the Go Tours. Upon your arrival at Beijing's international airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel for check in. The remainder of the day can be spent at leisure. Why not take a walk through the local street market for the opportunity to sample such local delicacies as deep fried scorpions or cooked silk worms on a skewer or head to Silk Alley Market for some souvenir shopping.
Don some comfortable shoes as today you get the chance to walk a section of the famous Great Wall. Zig zagging some 6000km, ducking and weaving through mountain peaks and lush terrain, the Great Wall is one of those 'must-do experiences'. Located in the heart of bustling Beijing, the Temple of Heaven is an oasis of peace and a striking example of architectural order and symmetry. Enjoy a guided tour of the temple and park before continuing on to the Summer Palace. Set on beautiful Kunming Lake, the palace grounds containing various temples, gardens, pavilions, bridges and gate-towers are a marvel of landscaping.
This morning explore the heart of Beijing including the vast Tiananmen Square where Chairman Mao's tomb and various monuments to the people are located. Enjoy a guided tour of the vast Forbidden City, a city within a city that was once the seat of the emperors. Later take an exciting rickshaw ride through the Hutongs of Beijing, weaving through old back lanes and traditional courtyards for a snapshot of an ancient way of life. Later this evening we transfer you to the railway station for your overnight sleeper train to Xi'an.
Arriving into Xi'an early this morning, transfer to your hotel for check in and proceed on a guided tour of the marvellous Terracotta Warriors archaeological site. Some 7000 warriors stand battle-ready and have done so for the past 2,200 years. This afternoon enjoy a leisurely bicycle ride (solo or tandem) atop the well-preserved Xi’an city wall. At a minimum of 6 metres in width, 9 miles in length with no steep inclines, the wall offers a great vantage point for peeping down upon the city hubbub below. This evening enjoy a Tang Dynasty show, colourfully choreographed according to various historical records of the ancient arts with dinner included.
After breakfast and hotel check out this morning we transfer you to the airport for your flight to Chengdu where you will be met and transferred to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, a short drive out of town. Visiting the Panda nursery is a must as here you can get relatively close to the centre’s infant population. Transfer to hotel for overnight.
This morning take the bullet train to Chongqing where upon your arrival you will be met and transferred to the port where you will board your Yangtze River Cruise.
Day 2 on board the Yangtze River cruise. Enjoy a leisurely morning soaking up the scenery of the Yangtze. In the afternoon there's the option of a shore excursion to Fengdu (Ghost City) and the impressive wooden Shibaozhai pavilion. Later in the evening back on board join the Captain's Welcome Dinner.
During day 3 on board the Yangtze River cruise you will pass the Qutang gorge, the shortest, narrowest, yet most impressive, of the Three Gorges, and later the incredibly beautiful Wu gorge. Disembark for an excursion to Shennong stream by open sampan. Returning to the cruise ship continue through Xiling gorge, the longest of the three.
Your final day on board the Yangtze cruise brings the opportunity to visit the Three Gorges Dam, the grandest hydroelectric project in the world. After lunch and arrival into Yichang, disembark from the cruise ship and transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. Upon your arrival you will be transferred to your hotel. Later this evening enjoy an evening panoramic Huangpu river cruise and dinner.
Focus your eyes on spectacular Shanghai. Perhaps China’s most modern city, its amazing Pudong skyline is stunning. After breakfast at your hotel, take a tour of the many city sights including the Yuyuan Gardens, the Jade Buddha Temple and The Bund. This afternoon we will transfer you to the airport for your onward departure flight. End of services.
