Day 1: Kochi

Welcome to India and the start of your holiday! Arrive Kochi, included transfer to hotel.

Day 2: Kochi

Formerly a princely state, Kochi is also fondly referred to as “The Queen of the Arabian Sea”. This morning enjoy a sightseeing tour of the town including the beautiful Parsi Synagogue built in 1568, the Dutch Palace built by the Portuguese in 1555 and St Francis’ Church. A walking tour of Fort Cochin takes you through streets still graced with traces of Portuguese, Dutch and British colonial architecture. Afternoon free. This evening we enjoy Kathkali Dancing Show.

Day 3: Kochi

Day 4: Kochi - Alleppey

This morning we drive to Alleppey to board a simply furnished private rice-boat for a journey through the backwaters in and around Alleppey. Crewed by a poler to push the rice boat through the water, a distance of some 20 kms will be covered, during which time the boat will glide past colourful local villages. As for dining, the on-board cook will prepare meals using fresh local produce.

Day 5: Alleppey - Ooty

Disembarking at Alleppey, you’ll drive to Ooty (approx 8 hrs).

Day 6: Ooty - Mudumalai

We enjoy a half day sightseeing tour of Ooty before driving onto Mudumalai National Park. Wake up each day with a foray of India’s great wildlife right at your doorstep. The 322 sq km predominantly deciduous forest is a sanctuary for Indian bison, Nilgiri langur, bonnet macaques (monkeys), peacock, jackel, hyena and a few tigers and leopards. The northern reaches of the park are home to one of the largest population of elephant in all of India. Day at leisure.

Day 7: Mudumalai

Day at leisure in Mudumalai National Park (optional activities to be booked and paid locally).

Day 8: Mudumalai - Mysore

This morning its goodbye to your jungle hideaway and onward travel to Mysore. This evening we visit the Vrindavan Gardens.

Day 9: Mysore

We enjoy a half day tour of Mysore including the Maharaja's Palace, St.Philomena's Church built in an imposing Gothic style, the Jagan-mohan Palace which was converted into an art gallery in 1875 and the Chamundi Hills.

Day 10: Mysore - Hassan

Enroute to Hassan, we stop to visit Belur and Helebid. The small towns of Belur and Halebid in Karnataka are home to some of the most unique temples in South India. Hassan is situated in the heart of Malnad district of Karnataka. Hassan has retained the aura of serenity and peace and is the well-known centre of Jain literature. We enjoy an excursion to Sravanabelagola which features one of the world's tallest and loveliest monolith statues of Lord Gomateshwara or Lord Bahubali, a Jain saint (if time permits).

Day 11: Hassan - Hospet

We have a long drive ahead of us today. We travel of roughly 8-9 hours to Hospet.

Day 12: Hospet

Today, we enjoy a full days sightseeing the city of Vijayanagar, commonly known as Hampi, located on the banks of Thunghabhadra river. Between 14th and mid of 16th Century Hampi was the South India's wealthiest, largest and most powerful Hindu kingdom. Now a UNESCO’s World Heritage Site Hampi is known for its historical importance, magnificent ruins and unique landscape.

Day 13: Hospet - Goa

We have an early morning this morning with a transfer to the train station for our train (18047 - Amaravathi Express - 06:30/13:55 2nd Class Air/Con Carriage) to Madgaon (Goa). You will be met in Goa and transferred to your hotel.

Today, we transfer you to the airport for your flight to Delhi, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Day 21: Delhi - Agra

En route to Agra, we visit the ghostly former Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri, abandoned due to lack of water. Evening visit to the Taj Mahal for sunset. Built entirely of white marble, the Taj Mahal has no peers.

Day 22: Agra - Mumbai

Optional morning visit back to the Taj Mahal at sunrise (vehicle transfer only, entrance fee payable locally). We check out of our hotel to visit Agra fort, which boasts some of India’s finest Mughal buildings behind it’s fortified walls. We drive back to Delhi today and tranfer you to the airport for your flight to Mumbai, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Day 23: Mumbai

Enjoy a cruise to the Elephanta caves in the morning. The island of Elephanta is about 10 kms from Mumbai. The 4 rock-cut temples are believed to have been cut between 450-750AD. After an hour’s boat trip to the island, walk the steps up the hillside to the caves. Shiva is the most depicted form. The afternoon city tour heads to the Gateway of India – a former colonial monument and now a popular emblem of the city and a hubbub of life.
